I guess I will look into that then. We have a Chevelle trunk lid sitting in the office because the clear peeled off in one spot. :willy:

What would be the best single stage black to go with?

TreySmith 07-02-2009 09:59 AM

I started on the floor today. I got one rear seat section cut out, it is the worst part of the floor I can do. The passenger rear I need a pan for so I didn't do that first. The rest of the floor should be a piece of cake since the rust isn't that bad. I cut out the rust with a cutoff wheel and then used the cut piece to make a rough outline onto some quarter panel metal off a 72 cuda'. Then I set the cut piece under the car and rested it on the muffler, then used some black paint to get a spot on outline. The piece needs a little bit more trimming but it pretty much fits perfect. I was going to weld it earlier but someone else is using it, so I might do it later today.

Also some pics of the bodywork below. The right side still needs to be sanded down. Thanks Bob for the extra trunk lid.

Looks like getting there Trey!

The car is coming along great Trey! Keep at it!

SickSpeedMonte 07-09-2009 04:54 AM

Did someone run their finger through the mud on the passenger quarter there?

The car is looking great! Keep up the good work.

Lol yeah.

I ordered some pins and bushings last night, I can't wait to get them on. You have to lift up the door and push it with your knee at the same time to close it. You can't even close the passenger door from the inside.

Hoping to have it painted next week. It just feels like I am missing alot of stuff.

TreySmith 08-03-2009 08:35 PM

Got the passenger door pins in, still need to adjust the door since it still won't close right, may do the drivers side Wednesday. Still waiting for the body work to be finished so it can be painted. :willy:

I dropped $800 on interior Sunday night. I ordered carpet, seat covers and the seat foam plus the install kit. Now I am broke again lol. All I have left is $500 and that goes to paint.

Tomorrow I plan on having the car inspected if it's not too hot, I tried Friday and it failed for the crack in the tail light and loose headlights. Going to hook the A/C up tomorrow also.

Trey, get used to the spending its worse than a drug habit! keep going sounds like your having fun too!
I used to have a dark metallic blue 79 that I honestly got a lot of looks in!

TreySmith 08-04-2009 08:53 PM

Yeah, it's bad lol. I got a drivers side tail light in good shape, I just need 4 adjusters for the high beams and to sew the passenger seat belt.

Getting all the looks is fun but cops are looking too, got pulled over Friday for no inspection... Got off with a warning.

I fixed the timing today, I didn't know you had to do it with the advance plugged. Man, the car runs amazing now, it hasn't put a smile on my face like that in a long time. It use to backfire and die at WOT..

TreySmith 08-11-2009 05:56 PM

Re-covered my rear seats today, posted a tutorial for F-Bod's in the interior section.

Send them over with $100 stuffed into the box and I will do it

And yeah, they are staying out of the car until it's done, glad I didn't have to learn that the hard way. I feel bad for some of our customers lol.

I got the passenger front almost finished today, I just need to lay a coat on the bottom frame and put it together. They look amazing, no wrinkles :woot:

Still have some more floor to patch this week. I am going to try to have it inspected for the 4th time this Friday and drive it to the other paint shop, it's getting painted finally this weekend. It failed for no power steering...

I was just messing with you :P They look good, when are we going to see some paint on this car?

TreySmith 08-13-2009 10:40 AM

Hopefully this weekend, I already have it set up with the painter but the body man is dragging his ass. He said the bodywork will be finished tomorrow. I might have to wave $50 in his face for him to get on it..

Here is how the front seat looks right now. Still cleaning up the bottom frame. The dirt from the seats have made a mess of my room.

I ended up bringing the car back to work for paint. My boss is only charging me $350 for paint versus $700. It was weird, I just pulled it right into the sanding booth, no wait at all. When they were sanding it they found a ton of dents that need to be fixed. The body work was pretty bad, they are basically going to have to go over the car one more time. The good news is that it is only going to be another $100 or so. I told them I would help a little tomorrow but they said it would probably already be painted by the time I got there from school. I need to call and make sure they remove the tail lights and various trim.

Some pictures from today.

Here are some pictures of the rear seats, I set them out in the sun and the wrinkles came out completely. They shrank even more after I took the picture since it was fresh out the sun. It started sprinkling by the time I did the passenger seat so they will look alot better after some sunlight.

Sweet! Post paint pics ASAP!!

TreySmith 08-26-2009 05:54 PM

They pulled the car out of the paint line today, it was that bad. My boss yelled at the body man and is making him redo it so I am not sure when it will be done now, my boss said tomorrow but idk. Here are some pics before I pulled it back into the body mans area. I am tired of the car sitting, that's all it's done for 4+ months. My boss wants the car done, it's taking up needed space.

I am glad though since now it wont be dented when it comes out the paint booth.

It's just a little longer, you'll be happier with a dent free car  I wish I could get more progress on my project. I've had it for like two years now; one day................

TreySmith 08-27-2009 05:20 PM

All the dents are now fixed, it still needs a skim of bondo on the roof but they are going to do that right before paint. It also needs the fender aligned which I am paying another guy to do.

So the paint time now is next Monday afternoon, I am taking the car home tomorrow and taking it to the car show for fun.

Some pics later.

TreySmith 08-29-2009 03:56 PM

I am ordering my decals, weather stripping and door panels tomorrow, I decided to get that instead of rims. Going to just get the complete decal set and will order the pre-formed stripes later down the road. I am going to work early Monday so I can help prep the car and rip all the old seals out.

It would be my luck to drive the car home Tuesday and have somebody run a light and total the car. I am going to get some peel and seal from Home Depot to help insulate the car and keep the sound down.

TreySmith 09-03-2009 04:29 PM

looks great Trey! It has to be exciting to see it reach this point. Can't wait to see it with the decals.

That dude needs to get a suit on. These cats will pay for it one of these days. There is the safety engineer coming out of me.

TreySmith 09-03-2009 05:48 PM

I was looking at the car the whole time at work, I can't believe it's the same one lol.. It's going to look even better when we cut and buff it but I will do that later. The decals should be here next week.

I think the painter is still trying to get over the awesomeness of the air conditioned mask lol. I guess the reason he doesn't wear a suit is because he is always in and out etc..

67rstbkt 09-04-2009 02:32 PM

Looking tight  I need some better pictures, though.

Mmmmm, new interior.

So my parents are making get the transmission rebuilt before I do anything else, going to try and find a place this week. Hopefully it won't cost more than $400. I am going to try and have the decals put on this week depending on if the car is in the shop or not.

I still have to put the drivers seat together which is why I didn't install it in the pictures.

From when I bought it to today. In case anyone is wondering, I am going to finish the floor later.

You have really gotten this car looking nice in a short time. Paint looks great and the interior looks really nice.

TreySmith 09-09-2009 07:23 PM

Thanks guys! I found a place nearby that will rebuild the transmission for $500 so I am having it done there tomorrow. I can't wait, I have never been able to go WOT without being afraid of the tranny exploding.

Where at? I am in Pearland Texas...

That's a good idea, maybe I should start looking around for a job at an interior shop.

TreySmith 09-15-2009 06:46 PM

The transmission was rebuilt today, can't wait to start driving it. I have a bunch of kids I am supposed to race after school lol.
