man that rendering looks amazing. cant wait to see the finished product. im thinkin my favorite truck thus far

Tony@AirRideTech 03-04-2010 05:25 AM

Very cool Rodge...... I like it, its different and I agree with the cammer motor over a mod V-10. Alot more class and style.

Muscle Car PWR 03-04-2010 07:18 AM

Cool Project Rodg. Is this for a customer? i remember seeing this rendering a few years back.

What's up Tony? Like the new ad in ST. Drive 'em hard and beat on em.

I'm really digging the direction of this truck. Looks great!

ironworks 03-04-2010 07:26 AM

Well Thanks Guys, this is actually my truck. Just to be clear the Black truck was previous rendering Carter did. Since he had the wire frame for a Unibody he did a little DITTY for me. Here is the actual game plan.

I really like this truck. Someday after my Camaro, and after my R1 Rhino and Probably before my 36 3 window and my 55 Chevy gasser.

boonedog 03-04-2010 07:57 AM

WOW!!! Me likey very much. Nice color scheme.:wow:

rocketman 03-04-2010 10:33 PM

looks cool, surprised you didnt go tube chassis like your other truck,

ironworks 03-05-2010 06:49 AM

If was a product development chassis. Plus The plan on this truck was to put our money into paint and interior. I have bitchin tube chassis designed for my 36 3 window. They take considerably more work.

WHAAAT?? :willy:

I just saw this post and had to object... a 5x2.5 .125 wall box profile is anything but weak torsionally...

and since they are connected in both ends (in the front by the front crossmember) applying a torsional load on the car will be absorbed by both the rails ... as they will have to flex allong their longitudinal axis, doing that to a pair fo 5x2 box profiles is no small task.. its much

some quick numbers for the doubters out there:
5x2-1/2x1/8 square has a torsional stifness constant of 4,40 in4 and
1,9x0.145 round has a torsional stifness constant of 0.586 in4..
so you would need more than seven parallel round tubes on each side arranged like the ironworks truck with the tube chassis to be as stiff torsionally as the one box..

source: http://www.steeltubeinstitute.org/pd...n_brochure.pdf

and on another note... it is a tube frame :-) its just square tubing

I guess he missed the fact it is just tacked together or that it has no frame crossmembers yet.

You have to love the internet.....

i just added a few numbers for the non believers (ofcourse they will only be valid once its fully welded though :D ...

its a great project by the way.. i would propably move the fenderlips up alittle to show alittle more wheel (atleast do a rendering to test the look), perhaps just in the front..

waynieZ 03-05-2010 10:08 AM

Its going to be a sweet ride. Very nice.

Very nice project Rodger. As usual your work is over the top. One of these days I need to get up there and take a tour of your shop.:D

Kody one of my employee's is working on it. It has been getting some forward progress lately. Maybe on the ground soon.

Harper 03-18-2012 09:35 PM

whoa there fellas

Just wondered how it compared to modern unibody stuff, where you have the whole body as a stressed part. VW are quoting 25000n/degree of twist for a golf. 5x2 is a beefy section, but then you guys put 600+ bhp through it all so it needs to be.

I'm not really following whether you asked a question or not. It kinda sounds like a question. But does not make sense as a question and it does not have question marks. These trucks are just a one piece body like an Elcamino, they are just called unibody trucks but they are not really "Unibodies" in the modern terminology.

I'm actually serious for once, not trying to be a smart ass. Really...

Steve68 03-19-2012 02:37 PM

Cool truck, my dad had a 63 F-100, I used to drive when I was a teenager, good truck,

My question is how stiff does the frame get when it's all finished, do you get much twist when driving? I've no idea how stiff an essentially ladder frame car is, sorry I've only experience with monocoque stuff.

I think BMW are up to 3 metric tons to twist a new 7 series 1 degree, any idea how your stiff your chassis will be, I wonder if solidworks can figure it out?
I know this isn't supposed to be a luxury motor but it would be interesting to compare. Especially when you fit a blown coyote mill in it. It wasn't a negative comment originally, i was just genuinely interested.

legend 03-19-2012 04:02 PM

Man hope you guys didn't take offence, great work as ever, if my euromillions numbers ever come up i'll be knocking on your door for a Pro Touring Heckflosse. or 3.0 CS bmw

RIDES BY DESIGN 04-18-2012 04:22 PM

any pictures yet?

Arrowhead 05-19-2014 12:39 PM

so what ever happened to this project? The most of the pictures are gone and I couldn't find anything on the OP's website under finished or in progress albums. Too bad, would have at least liked to have seen the frame.

I sold the project to an employee that decided to go after greener pastures. So I'm guessing it is resting somewhere still not being worked on. Would have been a cool project.

Arrowhead 05-19-2014 12:55 PM

wow that's too bad. Sounded like a great build plan though. Thanks for the update, there's always the next one right? :)

We seem to have no shortage of work. So just like you said on to the next one.
