Looks like I'm the black sheep here:thumbsup:

The engine we'll be using on my build is a Jon Kaase built (wouldn't expect the chevy guys to know him) 598ci based Boss 429.Will have a bit over 1000hp,850 lbs of torque on 91 octane pump gas.

I thought Vegas69 was the only dinosaur left on the planet!

Just yankin' your chain... I've owned a few just like that... some of those bad BB's with multiple carbs even! Ya know - they're extremely effective at making huge power - and you can fix them anywhere - anytime with a couple simple hand tools...

Vegas69 12-14-2009 11:59 PM

what is wrong with this world, running a 2.6L terd. NO THANKS!!!

when will you guys realize if you spend the same amount of money on a LS you will make double the power and the engine will live much longer.

Thats an interesting statement...

With a single turbo, fuel pump, injectors and a little head work the RB26 is no terd, with listed mods above the engine can produce huge amounts of power. Not to mention the work is cheap to do!

Also the main reason i am using the engine is because of the way the tranny is set up. AWD here I come....

What are you running the BBC in? And the RB26?

anarchy99 01-09-2010 02:04 PM

SBC 350, FAST XFI, D1 Procharger. LS1's are great, but if you have SBC stuff lying around, why not?!

That will be an interesting mix, please post some pics when you can.
My buddy has one in a 240sx putting almost 700hp to the wheels.

I seriously considered a LSx engine, but I couldn't resist the pull of en EFI big block! In a few years the LSx will be as common as small blocks, but that wont be the case for a Rat.
My 509 going in front a T56 in a 79 Z28:

Nice looking set up you have!! Which front drive unit is that?

Wow! Crazy bad looking...

Bad = good

79ZED 01-15-2010 06:46 PM

70rs,

Thanks. It's a Vintage Air Frontrunner setup. It's a very solid, well made drive system. Fits great, but I did have to cut up the crank pulley to make room for the MSD crank trigger.

The air cleaner pan will be cut to size and a gasket added once I get it under the cowl hood.

Very nice! I would love to see that installed. Do you have a build thread or any pictures posted?

79ZED 01-17-2010 11:25 PM

Thanks guys!

70rs, the tear down of the car ( I'm the original owner ) is going painfully slow, partly due to my health, partly due to the garage being unheated!

The interior is nearly all out, just have to remove the heater / ac box, some wiring, and steering column. Drivetrain is out except the original 3:73 posi ten bolt. Front subframe and fenders will come off as soon as I trial fit the big block & T56 combo for any interference.

All new suspension from Speedtech, SC&C, Hotchkis, Pro-Touring F Body. Brakes are Hydratech with C5 calipers and LS discs out back. T56 is a new LT1 ( that I picked a few years back ) behind a Spec Stage 3+ clutch and Fidanza flywheel.

With some hard work and a bit of luck, it'll be in the paint / body shop this Summer.

Hope to keep the car basically stock looking with the exception of the Goodmark cowl hood and Rushforth Concept II wheels. Tough to hide that.

John

I am in kind of the same boat right now, some health (shoulders) and logistics are keeping me from doing much for the next month or two but I should be able to get back on it soon.

There was no place to pick LSx with Carb...oh well.

6.0L LQ4, stock bottom end
Ported LS6 243 heads (320cfm @ .600)
Big cam (238 @ .050, .600 lift)
Single plane Vic Jr
850cfm carb
150 N20 plate

Should be fun 'til it pops. Then I will build a forged 408.

PS, HI Eric, havnt heard from you since the surgery, hope all is well.

I figure either people will love it or hate it, personally im kinda in the middle. I grew up with family members that loved hotrods but I am young so the whole rice rocket thing was cool at one point. I figured what the hell! the best part will be when I chop the front end off and convert the thing to AWD. Should be a one of a kind car, what do you think? 69 AWD Chevelle with an RB26?

98ssnova 01-19-2010 02:07 PM

I will be runnign 98 ls1 mild cam nothing special after i have the car complete will look into something big cube if dont like the way it is performing:lateral:

Yeah baby--that's what I'm talking about---thing sounds healthy!

I will say that the ver 1 of the SBC "sounds" so much better than the LS motors--now I have no idea why that is, but at the first and second Optima shootout for example, there were quite a few guys commenting about this very thing---maybe there is less overlap on the cams for the LS motors because head flow is superior, who knows---but I think you made a great point, if you already have the stuff, it makes sense to use it--- you can put the money towards making the car handle instead.

Doug
