Holy crap. That's a helluva redo on your garage. It looks awesome. I've been redoing parts of my garage also, but nothing to that degree. That's on a whole-nutha-level. Great work.

jy211 09-04-2009 08:46 AM

what did the floor run ya? PM me if need be

XcYZ 09-04-2009 09:29 AM

With their super concrete degreaser, all the floor products, and shipping, it was $1.65 sq ft.

That didn't include the acid for etching, supplies like tape, rollers, etc, but that wasn't a whole lot.

BC69 09-06-2009 07:33 AM

That looks awesome Scott! Love the two tone paint. Neighbors must all be pretty jealous.

Spiffav8 09-06-2009 02:03 PM

Daaang! :wow:

Looks GREAT! I love seeing garage makeovers. I've enjoyed redoing my garage as much as working on my camaro. Can't wait to see it finished. My colors are very similar to yours. I found that a black pinstripe along the red and gray really set it off and finished the look. Great job!

Thanks guys.

I don't have much of an update other than the car is finally back in the garage. She feels right at home, it all came together. Of course I had to take pics. :D

I'll make another update when I get the cabinets... and then I'll also be able to finish up the trim and baseboards.

almcbri 09-09-2009 04:43 AM

looks great! That is one nice man/car cave. :D

Everytime I see your car I start contemplating whether or not to paint my car red! Awesome car.

Rybar 09-09-2009 11:08 AM

When your all done, I'd love to see a Mark Steilow style pic of the car in the garage.

Looks killer Scott

nvr2fst 09-20-2009 06:32 PM

Wow Scott, just checked out the thread.
This is looking real good.

Is there a murphy bed hidden behind the wall somewhere. LOL I dont think your missing much for the man cave.

XcYZ 09-24-2009 07:13 PM

I have to secure the base cabinets together, install the toe kicks, install the door handle hardware, secure the countertops, and finish the baseboard trim and a few other small pieces of trim and the project is about done.

For the cabinets, I called up Steve Lenning and had Dakota Kitchen make some basic all black cabinets. The insides are solid white and they are made out of 3/4" and are rock solid. I couldn't be happier with them. When I went out to pick them up, Steve gave me the full tour of the facility and it's first class all the way. It's extremely impressive.

The countertops are basic off the shelf units from a big box home improvement store. Nothing fancy and were pretty cheap, but I have to cut them to length. They are a black marble and look pretty good I think. Solid black would have been better, but would have cost at least 3 times as much. lol So this will do just fine.

GREAT SCOTT!! IT LOOKS GREAT SCOTT....

LOL

Turning out really, really, nice. Too nice to work in there anymore! From now on you're not even allowed to change a tire!

XcYZ 09-24-2009 07:24 PM

Thanks Greg. But I think it will be the opposite, I will do more in the shop as it will be a lot nicer to spend time in there. It's soooooo much better than before.

Garage Dog 65 09-24-2009 07:48 PM

wax on - wax off

I'm with Greg, you won't get to do anything in there except detail the car and drink beer ! Maybe watch some shows on that big TV too !! Besides, you'll be out driving that bad boy all the time and never in that man cave anyway.

Very nice !!

Any thoughts on how to fill up that other bay yet ?

GM Muscle 09-24-2009 07:59 PM

that is an awesome garage.. with that being said.. whats the scoop with the yellow lightswitch/socket plates:_paranoid

slenning 09-24-2009 08:07 PM

Looks Awesome Scott, bet I know where you'll be all weekend!!:unibrow: Shoulda brought those tops over with you and we could have cut them to length for you. You will also need to put some build up strips under the tops to hold them up for the doors to clear. But I'll bet you already figured that out! Thanks again for the business and any questions be sure and give me a call.

GregWeld 09-24-2009 08:14 PM

Those aren't "yellow"... you must be politically correct and say they are VANILLA....

Scott... I have several STAINLESS STEEL cover plates I'd be happy to send you... and I've seen cover plates in nonskid plate too.

They look like these.... if you want them their yours...

The electrical plate covers are stock ivory color.

In regards to the toekicks. I would suggest installing (adhere)vinyl cove base over the toekicks. It makes a difference when mopping up spills or just mopping floor to keep garage pristine. Your veneer will not end up delaminating in the long run. I did this throughout my whole garage instead of using wood baseboard, but I have a drain in the floor for washing daily drivers in winter months and a place for the snow slush to drip off the cars.

XcYZ 09-25-2009 05:28 AM

Thanks guys.

The outlets and switches and covers are the colors that I used when I built it. I know they aren't real attractive, but I think black would stand out too much, white... well, I don't have any white in the garage, but that might look better over all. Whatever I do, it will depend on the 4 switch cover. The brushed stainless looks nice, but I'd have to find a 4 switch cover.

I thought about the vinyl baseboard, too.

The 4 switch stainless covers are out there. The local home big box store should have or be able to get them, if not a local electrical supply house will have them. As for the toe kicks, the cove base will save them. It is really easy to install, it comes in a giant roll or in 4 foot lenghts and can be found at most home improvement stores. I have installed HUNDREDS of cabinets in commercial applications and anything you can do to protect your investment will help. Or if you are sure you will never have water/fluids on the floor in any kind of quantity then leave it. Either way you have a really nice set up there. REALLY NICE!

haha. i just had to give you a hard time. jealousy has set in!:hail: but my

GregWeld 09-25-2009 09:19 AM

Thanks guys. I got the countertops cut, fitted and secured, and all the trim except around the service door is done. Now I can start filling all the cabinets.

XcYZ 10-01-2009 05:21 AM

A locally published magazine contacted me and wanted to take some pin-up style pics using my car and garage. Here are some snapshots I took while they were setting up. The images the photographer were taking looked awesome when reviewing them on his display, he used some creative lighting and put red colored filters on the remote flash for some really cool effects. I'll see if he will give me some of the final product to post.

GregWeld 10-01-2009 07:11 AM

Well it just doesn't get any more fun than that!!

OneCamaro 10-01-2009 07:45 AM

Heater

Your shop/man cave looks great. In reviewing your build pictures I noticed you enclosed what looks like a gas forced air heater, be sure to get plenty of air to the back of it, so it doesn't pull the CO in the shop space, it only takes a little vacuum to kill the up draft on your furnace. When it turns cold you may want to monitor your CO levels the first time you turn it on.
