Good to know thanks. That dual carb setup is pretty badass. What sort of power are you putting down? |
Just got a long awaited check from a client and I already spent it before its deposited
Finally ordered some proper Wilwoods... http://www.wilwood.com/Images/BrakeK...0510-DR-lg.jpg http://www.wilwood.com/Images/BrakeK...7140-DR-lg.jpg A TKO600 from kiesler http://www.ttcautomotive.com/english...0_GM_small.jpg And Adjustable SPC Upper Control Arms to dial out that positive camber http://www.spcalignment.com/PROD_DIR...OTOS/94370.jpg I need to get all this stuff installed and sorted out before mid september. I'm trying to drive the car from Los Angeles to visit my mother in Montana. Going to drive through yellowstone, salt lake city etc. Should be an incredible adventure. That TKO600 sure will come in handy. |
That's awesome Rogue. What size Wilwoods? 13's?
Money well spent. I like the TKO600!!  |

Picked up some new Toyo R888's. My RA1s lasted about 5k miles mixed street/track use... Not bad, not good....
Rear 275/40/17 http://lh5.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sq...0/IMG_3416.JPG Upgraded my fronts from a 235 to a 245/40/17. No rubbing lock to lock and in hard cornering yet... http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sq...0/IMG_3417.JPG |
I love this car. The minimalist/classic theme is brilliant.
|
Did you decide on a dash yet? Man I love this car.

I plan on doing some sort of brake ducting setup using the factory front spoiler and using aftermarket inlets and ducting from the circle track world. For the rears I would have to pull air from the back windows like Scott Mock's car, or setup inlets underneath the car near the front of the leafs perhaps. Scott's car is a big inspiration to me. Love it. http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/SH...blw0aOGLg7.jpg |

Oh wow yeah I didn't notice. I'm real excited about the TKO. As much as I love my muncie, I find myself screaming down the highway at 4k RPM all to often and the cops LOVE ME. I plan on doing a few local trips from LA to Santa Barbara and San Diego to shake the car down before making a big trip up through utah and yellowstone to visit my mother in Montana. I think it'll be a hell of an adventure that I'll remember for a lifetime. Cars are for driving right? |

Thanks just trying to keep it simple and functional. While I love all the aftermarket support we have, I think a lot of cars are overbuilt with fancy parts and never driven like they should be because they end up being too nice. I'm still kicking the idea of picking up a set of 17" Minilite Replicas to really bring the trans am look into the modern era. I wish I could run the magnetic numbers full time, but they fall off at speeds over 100mph. |

Thanks! Not yet, I dropped off the car at Guldstrand Motorsports in Burbank this morning. Waiting to get the trans, headers, upper control arms, and wilwoods in and sorted out. Then its off to my electronics/audio shop for the dash, gauges, battery relocation, a simple stereo. I'm going to be using either the Covan's Thunder Road unit in black. 5" Speedo and Tach. http://lh6.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sr...-_Black_CF.jpg Or I'll use Anvil's dash, but paint it black. Maybe they have a blemished one I can get. I don't want too much carbon. Anvil: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...h/IMG_3161.jpg I'm undecided on gauges so far. I like the Carbon Autometer series, but feel that carbon fiber should be used for functional purposes, not show purposes. I'm on the fence about the whole thing. Black dash is a must though. I eventually plan on using every carbon fiber body panel Anvil makes in addition to fiberglass front fenders for weight savings. Too much carbon on a muscle car can be a bad thing I think. I will be using a special sequential shift light system in the dash as well that'll be pretty cool and quite functional at track days. I find myself bouncing off the rev limiter at times. |

Its starting to get expensive replacing the damn things all the time. |

I use vinyl "low pressure" stickers so they can be peeled off easily anytime I don't want the stickers or when changing from road course numbers to land speed racing numbers. The "low Pressure" stickers are normally used by real estate companies etc. to change agents names and numbers on the signs they use in front of homes. Any sign printing kind of place can make them for you. No residue when you peel them off. |

Have you considered using a Nova dash insert and dash pad....I like how it cleans up the dash in the '69.

With all the tracking you do though, did you go with the RR .82 overdrive version? |
Just found this thread, love the car! If you're going to find a blem carbon fiber dash, I'd paint over it lightly with the black so you could just barely see the carbon. Would look killer IMHO.
Man, that is just crazy about the steering wheel, how hard were you cranking it??? |
I would go with the Covan one. I think the carbon is a little to much. It doesnt say race it says rice.

Love your car man, I couldn't agree more re some cars being overbuilt:thumbsup: My '69 has been built to compete in historic road racing & the rules dictate that you must keep original subframes & suspension components like OE A arms, axles, discs & calipers etc. You can fit something like Carbotech brakes which are awesome & can out stop bigger Wilwoods. My car has had the A arm mounting points moved, which now gives 3 deg negative camber, it has a bigger anti roll bar, multipoint Spax adjustable race shocks & runs 1500lb front springs (yep, that's correct 1500lbs per side) The ride isn't at all harsh with this set up & the car corners "flat" with no body roll. The rear axle has been "tweaked" to give toe in & camber. The thing handles as if it's on rails & gives total confidence in it's handling charecteristics. You really don't need to spend out a bucket load of money on aftermarket stuff to get your car to handle extremely well. Whlst I understand that many people feel that they're upgrading their car by fitting aftermarket items, for me it's bang per buck that's important.:unibrow: Here's a pic of it with the Superlite wheels & a video clip of the car with the engine ticking over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D16996RNe3k http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...zee28/side.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...ee28/front.jpg The car's not finished yet but it is road legal. I've just got to fit the new cowl hood ( the one on it in the pics is a temporary item until the new one's painted) stripe it & fit the front bumper. Cheers....Nige |
Been in and out of the hospital for complications with my health. Lots of progress has been made over at Guldstrand. We found that Doug's Headers D306 did not fit as advertised. So I'm returned yet another set of headers. This time we're trying Patriot H8062-1... Will see. I have a hard time spending $1500 for a set of headers from Lemons when it could be spent on more important things.

I'm afraid I'm now stuck with 17" wheels due to my new wilwoods, which is fine, but I'd like to run minilite replicas of some sort (Team3, Wheel Vintiques) in 17" for my street tires... |
Sorry to hear about your health complications. Hope it all works out ok for you.
The Wilwoods look great on there. They should provide some serious topping power. TAKE CARE!  |

Picked up the car from Guldstrand today with the following completed:
Tremec TKO600 5 Speed SPC Adjustable Upper Control Arms Rear lowering blocks to bring the back down a little Tow Hook and bracket to subframe Custom Headers to fit Lee Manufacturing quick ratio power steering Dick Guldstrands signature and approval to drive it like its stolen. Watching Dick pull the car around and the smile on his face I knew it brought back a lot of memories. He said it'll really step out on you if you stomp on it. He said he really loved the car, and the gas tank was empty. Always a pleasure speaking with guys like Guldstrand. I asked him to sign the dash, it should be good for about 50 horsepower I think. Dick pulling the car around. It finally sits even with the blocks in the rear. http://lh5.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4197.JPG  http://lh3.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4199.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4205.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4207.JPG http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4211.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4213.JPG Fillin up on some much needed petrol http://lh6.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4214.JPG |
The new shifter location is taller and farther back which helps because I'm so tall I sit real far back. Shifting is now a breeze and the 5th gear makes it a whole different car. Maybe I'll be able to manage 14mpg on the highway now. Cal speedway soon to see how fast I can get her up to on the main straight. Also Dick's Signature which cuts down lap time.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4230.JPG New Steering wheel http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4232.JPG Front Tow hook. I have the DSE shock plate tow hooks for the rear. http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4234.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4246.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4250.JPG Custom driver side header. 3 pipes had to be reworked. and new wilwood master and clutch reservoir. http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4237.JPG Header Clearance is finally good proper. http://lh3.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4248.JPG The Lee manufacturing power steering reservoir http://lh3.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4239.JPG Lee steering box. 12:1 ratio. Had to try 3 different headers, nothing worked. http://lh4.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4240.JPG SPC control arms will help with camber adjustments http://lh6.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4242.JPG Front 6 Piston wilwoods. No crossdrilled or slotted. I wanted track reliability not show-touring. I've cracked 4 drilled rotors already with the car. http://lh3.ggpht.com/__OT3YJ9o9Ao/Sv...0/IMG_4245.JPG So for the next track outing I have power steering, a 5 speed with a lot more top end, proper brakes that won't fade and proper camber for more contact patch. Should be a lot more fun and a whole new experience. I struggled with the car before. It was like trying to wrestle an elefant around the track. Just driving it around town, it drives like a modern car now. The manual brakes feel great, and its nice to have one less thing to go wrong out at the track. I'm waiting on my Jake's Rod shop aluminum spoiler and then I'll get that mounted. I also need to get an induction setup for the front spoiler so I can mount brake ducting to cool down the front brakes. Then its off to Cal Speedway if I can get it all finished in time. Will be REAL interesting to see what the cars capable on the main straight and turn 1 and 2. Last time I was out there I was topped out in 4th way before the finish line/pits. The proof is in the pudding I suppose. |
Very cool stuff.
But I must say I am not a fan of the color of that tow hook. What is that? Magenta? |
Quote:
Red. If you couldn't tell I'm not really building a show car here. Last thing I need is some idiot track worker using my front bumper or control arm as a tow point. I'll also be adding tow hook stickers. May seem silly but its required at nearly any track event you do. Without a tow point, they're going to use something stupid and screw up your car. I can unscrew the hook for street duty. |
Your car is coming along really well. I am also curious to see how the new stuff works out for you. I bet with the new steering your going to feel much better at the end of each session now.
As for the tow hook, well it's pink. But I do get the importance of a track worker needing to see it quickly. |

I've been looking for "TOW" stickers I like, but haven't found any. What I really want is something like the bubble letters from the "MOD" era. If you come across anything like that let me know otherwise I'm going to have them made for me eventually but they'll cost more that way and I'll probably take them off a lot. My front and rear hooks are also easily removable and you can't tell where they were. |
Dane, cool stuff man. It's like Xmas coming early...:D Awesome that Guldstrand did the work and then signed the glovebox door.
|
very kick azz dane! should make for some good improvements on the track times.
you should spray can some clear over the glove box door to protect the sig.;) ps. tow hook looks red to me... do you know what brand tow hook that is? |
Sweet man....I'm getting ready to add a front tow hook to mine. That's in the top 5 of things to do. I'm going to water jet mine and have it come out between the spoiler and front facia. I also put two hook on the rear shock plates.
|
I like where this car is heading. Very nice. I would leave that tow hook on 24-7. Looks sick to me. The best part is you are driving your car instead of wiping it down with a terry cloth all day. It seems like when you see the over the top cars in the mags, they never seem to list their road course or autocross times. Keep us posted.

I don't know what kind of runoffs the tracks have have where you guys are, but the track workers are not going to dig under your car in a sand trap (especially if you're no longer on the scene) to look and see if you have a tow hook on a shock plate. They'll just grab the bumper and pull. |
