Couple of thoughts:
1st: nobody knows, not even the people making these units pictured, know what the final pricing will be. What you see here are working prototypes. 'Mules' in a sense. 2nd: Pandora's box has been opened on billet hinges. I would be willing to venture a bet that there will be more than one source for for these. It's obvious that people really like them and it won't take long for the market to react. These days it's all about fresh ideas and getting them to market first as whenever there's something cool that comes out, there will definitely be competitors wanting in on the action. How many companies make tubular UCA's for 1st Gen F-bodys now? Of course, this is just my opinion. |

LOL. I wasn't really commenting on what they should be priced, I was just saying what I can afford to pay for something like that at the moment (ie not much :( ). David |
Hinges
The real question is are these Pro-Touring?
JUST KIDDING! :) Darren |
They are sweet. Gotta figure the guy will have a 100% markup on the manufacturing side to retail. Then dse will get a break from there prolly 25 to 50 %. just a guess.
cost to manufacture $250 x 2 = $500 retail detroit speed cost prolly $400 In my opinion anything over $600 your taking it up the you know what.lol |
I talked to the Ring Brothers and I am sending them a hinge from a 2nd gen. Camaro so they can make me a pair. I don't know about price yet, but he will take a look at the hinges and give me a quote. Maybe we can get a group purchase.

Billet hinges on the way
My builder G Force Design Concepts (Datsbad on this board) just received a set for their 67 Fastback project and they look awesome
Datsbad talked me into buying a set for "Quicksilver" my 65 Fastback. I was told that they would be $800. I agree that is a bunch of money for hood hinges. But they are extremely cool. They are a perfect fit IMO on my car and they will finish off my engine compartment nicely. Sometimes it is nice to be able to do things that are not "practical" Besides my Mr.T starter set is complete so I don't need any more Gold Ropes. Scott |
Cool.
If you like the parts, buy em. Don't skimp on things you like, IMO. Besides, leaving the money to your kids will just cause problems, spend it, give to them while you are alive, and your last check should go the mortuary and the check should bounce!!!!!!!! Post a pic of that hinge. |

hinges
If it is any consolation, one decklid/convertible top hinge, for a Lexus SC430 is $3000.00. It is a painted part, not billet.

I have a question. How strong are they? I don't know if any of these have been tested against large amounts of up force though the engine bay at high speeds. Anyone know if they are strong, and if they are I'm ordering a pair.
