Are you familiar with rod ends? They can pivot freely inside the race, instead of the pivoting around a trunnion they are using the ball as the pivot. Works fine as long as you stay within the limited amount of misalignment for the given rod end.

Do not give that man any more ideas. Knowing him a belly pan would lead to a complete rebuild and a new engine. So next year, maybe? :unibrow:

I think I'm going to have to stop visiting this site now that I've got something drivable, and I feel really lucky to have something 99 percent done, because if I didn't I would just find too many inspiring ideas (to steal), and would never finish anything.

Hell, this makes me want to go out and find another project :willy:

I love the flat bottom and the front air opening. Is there any video of this on track?

They are running two sets of wheels (Kinesis and a Forgeline) depending on the day of the week, LOL.

So perhaps it's the best in the Milkyway on Mondays and transforms to the best of the Universe on Tuesday, LOL.

"flame suit on"

If that is the same car, it's a shame they did all that fabrication and then just "stuck" that chin spoiler on there like that. Looks like it extends to far into the wheel well and doesn't flow well to the rocker area. The rocker flows down and under the car, that spoiler looks like a shovel, down and out.

Before you post up negative comments... how 'bout letting us all see your "work of art".

I remember reading the rules of the board, and I did not see anywhere in there that said, I must post pics of my work, before making "negative" comments on someone elses car.

Simmer down, It's just my opinion. Jeez, I guess no one around here is ever allowed to make a comment that doesn't follow the status quo. And I said nothing about the build quality of the rest of the build, so please do not put words in my mouth. I commented on one single thing.

And to your other point, what has what I built or NOT built have to do with just giving an opinion on something someone else posts on the internet? And I suppose he posted his car to get some opinions, and quite possibly knowing that not everything he did is what everyone else would like. We are all supposed to be grown up, and taking some nobody's critque should be easy.

Vegas69 01-06-2010 08:23 AM

Without hijacking this thread, it really comes down to picking out the negative side of anything. Sure there are some things we all dislike but the amount of work and vision is out of this world to pull something like this off. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but consider what you like about the car not what you don't. JMO

Amazing build.

Bow Tie 67 01-06-2010 09:41 AM

I like the way it was thought out. Reminds me of an exotic, very purpose build. Please tell us this thing is going to be put through its paces.

Stuart Adams 01-06-2010 09:46 AM

I hope to see it at a track someday.

Lots of time went into that car,I would like to see it at Columbus this year,There is a lot of work to look at.

rjsjea 01-06-2010 10:41 AM

Maybe I missed it.............Who's the builder or the shop building the car? Gotta give the credit where it's due. A whole lotta work went into that,

WOW! Whole different level there!

Front end looks strange...

pokey64 01-06-2010 11:35 AM

Amazing craftsmanship and fabrication but I'm not a fan of the front and rear styling.

tones2SS 01-06-2010 11:55 AM

That thing is CRAZY!!! Some of the styling is a little "too much" for me, but it's definitely a great build.
Talk about a race car in a street car's clothes?!?!:wow:

gracin7 01-06-2010 12:42 PM

KILLER STUFF!!! Hood reminds me of the mid-year vette GS race car hood or at least styled after that

James OLC 01-06-2010 01:41 PM

Like I said earlier - wow - awesome work.

But... (zipping the old flame suit on)... I don't think that it is anywhere close to being the Baddest 68 Camaro in the Universe. Or even being a contender for that title. Especially with nothing but build pictures to back it up. The fabrication work is excellent and some of the styling is killer but (performance aside) the whole package just is not there.

Three examples from our own community
  • Tyler's 50/50 - the new Ironworks Chassis is awesome and while his aero design may not be for everyone, it is consistent and ties in throughout the car... it may not be finished yet but the potential is there
  • Carl's RS - a 'pure' looking car that just plain works - one of the original '68 Camaro PT cars that still sets the standard today
  • Bad Penny - if you want to be the man, you have to beat the man

I don't want to disrespect this project at all (I don't think that the building is calling it the baddest in the universe, just Al) - nor do I want to ignore a lot of other really really cool '68's (like Larry's) but hey... I thought it needed to be said.

That notwithstanding - it has the potential to prove me wrong.

Vegas69 01-06-2010 02:04 PM

I have to agree there, to me it's all about performance. Everything else is second place. Hard for me to consider 50/50 on that list in it's current form.

Just looked at the finished photos......I'll give it the most fabricated 68 in the world but I'd take Bad Penny over that car everyday that ends in day.

Mr.VENGEANCE 01-06-2010 02:05 PM

awwww man.. pon final view of the car in full finish in that hub garage account ill have to say...

http://memegenerator.net/Instances/5...e-i-reckon.jpg

and what the hell with that damn wing?!?

I will say this tho.. i kinda like the chopped top.. i wonder how much did they take off.. it almost seems raked.

Roger M 01-06-2010 02:20 PM

I like the engineering that went into this, but(flame suit on) the styling isn't to my liking.

This was on their HUB garage page.

Hey James ---

Let us know when you think Ty's car will EVER be finished... til then - it really can't be in the lineup for a medal... because you just said - until you saw performance -- a car shouldn't be eligible for big kudos like this.

Oh wait -- it could be in the running for "the longest ever time from start to finish"?  That car was as Wayne Dues like 5 years ago when I bought my subframe from him... Saw it at Rogers a couple of months ago - looked pretty much the same... raw steel.

cheezer 01-06-2010 03:26 PM

The race track in the background is the ICAR ciruit, about 30mins north of Montreal. The track is built on the now much smaller, but still functioning for cargo, Mirabel Airport.

I will find out more about this car.

This sounds like the car I was told about by a friend of LEADFOOT who used to post here but went Pro Street with his car.

cheezer

Al Moreno 01-06-2010 03:36 PM

OK, I give....perhaps the universe is a little ambitious, maybe the Baddest 68 on the block, LOL:rofl:

You guys trip me out. I post that title because I knew you guys would get on the hook.

Who gives a sh#$ what atmosphere this car rules, LOL.

If are wife read this stuff, are credibility would go down the drain fast.

All in good sheer, Al.

PS, I agree that the styling might not be for me but there's some cool fab

You're right Greg - my point in including it at all was (a) the new chassis is really, really cool and (IMHO) better engineered than the one that is in this post (an offset cell - really?) and (b) there are some pretty basic similarities in the front end styling and while the car in this post does not carry that theme through the car, Tyler's design did (ie the rockers and the front air damn were on the same plane) and (c) it was kind of a free plug since it's for sale (:D ). But you're right, at this point it capabilities are all supposition and until it is done it's not in the running.

So... let's get Penny and MotiV8R and Carl together and settle this thing right now! The 2010 Baddest 1968 Camaro in the Universe Street Car Invitational (?)

CarlC 01-06-2010 04:20 PM

IN! I'm always up for a track day. Maybe tomorrow.....:unibrow:

Cut a car in half and widened it 5 inches !!! That's just stupid !!

:P
