At $60K, I made the best decision EVER taking it to Vegas.
|
$60,000. They just talked about it RIGHT at the end of the auction when they got back from commercial. What did Frank get for it?

Either they bought it back again or just lost their asses on it. 60k.
Frank, you did good by taking the money in Vegas. It hung at 45k for a long time then started again, I think they were bumping it themselves. That is a shame, because it is such a nice car. It really deserves more money and a better time slot. |

The auction is so weak. I have a friend lost over $100K on a dozen cars. Damn I am hold it for Scottsdale, $60K was a kill myself number.
|
Brutal coverage!! Only caught the last few seconds of it because of the commercial overlap. I wonder if they did that intentionally?

Did any of you watch the live feed on Speed.com? They were struggling at 45k. I think whoever got it made one hell of a buy that's for sure!

I am cool with what I got, but I would never put that kind of time and money into a Firebird again. You can see the value difference even when they are needing everything they bring half what a Camaro would.
|
It's not like it was something really oddball, it was a firebird!! I've crawled over and under it in person, and it is fantastic from end to end. Someone got a helluva deal, it couldn't be replicated for that.
Wasn't someone asking recently why so many people build camaros? Here was a reason. |
You guys need DVR's. I would shoot myself if I watched live and couldn't click through the commericals.
|
Wow.....that's a crazy deal for that car. The flippin motor is 30k all by itself.:willy:

It's all about instant gratification ya know?:willy: |
I can't believe it sold for that!! You know you can watch it streaming live on the Barrett web site, no commercials.
|
That's cheap for sure.. hell, g-28 went for $29k and Franks car is 10 times nicer...
Some stuff going cheap.. some not. How about the black stock Nova for $120k the other day.. Red Witch did pretty good as well. |
You would think these dumb asssss people would get a clue that its not by accident that year after year people loose there asssses on there pride and joy of a car by taking it to Barret Jackson. unless its a high end car with a huge pedigree or a 1 of 5 type of car the nomal bidders loose there assss and i dont feel sorry for them with no reserve on these cars. but thats just the way BJ does there event what a joke.

Maybe it is the thrill of the chase for some buyers, a quick sale for builders or collectors who want to get on to the next car...who knows. |

Supply and demand....way to many cars available at Barrrett Jackson, not to mention all the deals on the private market. It's a tough time to sell anything.

I'm not saying all go high. |
I will agree with Mark in this respect--Nobody forces the seller to show up or the buyer to purchase!! After watching about 14 hrs of this spectacle--It still is amazing and more power to those involved(except the commercials!!!!!!):unibrow:

Well -- Trust me -- I'm HERE and have friends with approximately 60 cars running -- and they are NOT happy... Sales are "weak"... bid on many cars are tough. Some are going nicely.
Yes - you are right in that nobody forces a seller to bring a car to BJ - or any other auction... and many times in the PAST most got a nice bid on their cars... but the past is just that. It's GAMBLING to put your car in a no reserve auction... and unless you're a "somebody" you're not going to get a prime time number. If you think you are - you're very uneducated about how this all works. Frank --- The old bird in the hand... you did the right thing -- and yes - "your" car was FILTHY. There was nobody there 'pimpin' it either. You want top dollar for your cars at a venue like this - somebody has to be there BEFORE it rolls to discuss it and help the bidders be confident. Charley got good money for his cars -- because he was there "selling".... |

The atmosphere strikes me more on the "bargain hunting" and there feels like -- okay - it's BJ - but "ho hum"... maybe I'll buy something -- but not really any big deal. The weather is cold - it's too hot inside and too cold outside... but DEFINITELY more people here today than yesterday by twice! The outdoor vendors have just gotten their asses handed to them. One guy I talked to lost 20 GRAND in inventory... had virtually zero sales until today - and was really really bummed...
There are some really nice cars here this year - and that actually might be the reason that sales numbers don't seem to be outstanding... because there's a lot to choose from - if you know what I'm saying. Remember too - that it takes TWO or more bidders to run up the price - and there seems to be a real lack of multiple bidders - but the night is still young! |

I had a few reasons for choosing Vegas instead of Scottsdale. My decisions were based on:
(1) First and very important, supply and demand, I thought at Vegas EmptyNest would be a superstar, and at Scottsdale just another nice car lost in a see of amazing cars. I think I was right there also, I think that is exactly what happened. (2) In early September when I made the decision, the stock market was going up, up, up. And the stock market went up every single day of the auction too. In October and oil and fuel prices were still under $70 barrel and under $2.50 gallon. I thought some people might have false feeling of confidence in the economy. I made the right choice, the market has been down and oil and gas are up! (3) I thought there was a high likely hood things would not be as good economically, and I was almost certain people would be less enchanted with the government and some of things that have been happening. Without getting to political. I made the right decision there also, disapproval ratings are climbing at a faster rate then Bush, the new guys numbers are lower at a quicker pace then the old guy. And people with money are very politically active and are very frustrated with the way things are going. I hear it everyday. And Greg is correct, the car sitting there dirty and no one there selling it, running it across the block with the ass stuck in the air with the air ride on kill, they got what they deserved. But as for pimping the car, I worked the car every open minute at Vegas and at the end of the day, just did not get the strong players. |
I love the car but honestly think a different color combo would have made a world of difference. White with blue ain't gonna cut it for 9 out of 10 buyers IMO.
In the end, you done good Frank! |
I think you exactly correct. if you do not appreciate the tribute theme of the white and blue 1969 Trans Ams, you wonder why it is white and blue. Not my favorite colors. I think colors and being a Firebird both hurt it. I do have to think had I built it the original black and gold theme I had rendered, it probably would have done better. But I built it to pay tribute to the orignal, but no one cared, LOL!
Lisa still wants one she can drive. I have a body and we are collecting parts to do another, MUCH less radical version. I will keep the investment low and still maike it a fun car, easy to get the money out of. Body will be the same exact theme, roll bar, boot, extc, but mild LS motor for sure, and black and gold, Screw the Pontiac guys, they did not respect it anyway. So i will put a LS in it and Bowtie emblem on the tail pan! |
I was never crazy about the car. It was apparent it was a personal build for Lisa. Not taking anything away from the execution. It's a gorgeous car, but not a Barrett Jackson candidate. Frank, you did well buddy.
|
Damn, you did good getting out of it when you did Frank! It's a bummer for us Firebird guys, but that's why I didn't go overboard with my bird. Just the name of the game. This is my first bird, but I likely won't do another Pontiac unless it's a nut and bolt restoration on a desirable car. A stock '69 400 coupe went for $60K at R&M I think I heard, which was a bright spot I suppose. But, you're right, Pontiac people are self righteous most of the time. My car draws the crowd at the local shows...but typically the Pontiac guys snub me the entire time, 10' away. F@ck em, put an LS into the next one. I would have in hindsight.

No, we did not build ot for resale value, just wanted to see it done. The next in house project we are building (working on it today in fact) is not being built for resale value either and is a total different style then EmptyNest. And we already picked the love it or hate it, most likely to ofend color ever. So we could fall right into the same catagory when we sell it too. Whatever. |

I didn't say I hated it...it just wasn't black or a Camaro. It sure would be interesting to see how colors effect selling prices at Barrett.
