stretching out the cab really helps it look better to me. I've always thought these trucks were too tall and not laid out enough.
Thanks for sharing the picture Rodger. You guys are doing great. |

"That Miter cut stuff is pretty easy".......Wow!! Maybe for you!!!:) Great work guys-I'm butt-deep in my first tube frame car,a 65 Nova. It's been on my chassis jig for 14 months now and I only have from the rear panel to the firewall done. I do get a ton of inspiration and ideas from looking at what Ironworks and the other builders (pros and garage guys like me) post up here. Keep the pics coming-that pickup is wicked!!

GREAT STUFF RODGER!!!:wow:
WOW, very nice work. Love the cage on the 4 wheeler. Nice job. The truck is going to look killer as well. Can't wait to see it completed. What's in store for the "power plant"? |
Very nice cage on the Teryx. We did one not too long ago for a friend, more recreational though, he wanted the dump bed to even still work. Those things are fun in the sand, but the stock cages are scary.

That looks like a good time!...

Time for another update. We are full speed ahead trying to get some stuff ready for Del Mar and the Goodguys Road tour stop with Gm Performance parts buying lunch on April 7th from 11am -1pm.
We have been working pretty fast on Franks 48 truck. Most of the major sheetmetal work has been done on the cab, the chop, section and lengthening of the cab. The Hagan Hinges have all been installed. We are working on fitting the door structure and installing power windows and latches before we roll new door skins. The chassis has Engine and trans mounts, Exhaust over the rear axle, the frame kick ups for the desired ride height all installed. We are waiting for the Schott wheels. Our plan to have this as a metal finished Truck at NSRA Bakersfield is still the plan. We were thinking Del Mar might happen and it might but we will see. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010162.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010065.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010064.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010045.jpg We got the R1 Engine in the Rhino. And the long travel is all welded up. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010170.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010134.jpg The Tri-5 chassis is coming along very nicely. The response I had on this site from the chassis spread like wildfire across the internet. I had hoped I might find 3 guys in a few weeks to test the chassis. I ended up with a waiting list and people wanting to leave deposits on a chassis. INSANE. I guess Eric and I's brains storm might just work. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010152.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010157.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010177.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...rch2010175.jpg Thanks |
Looking awesome Rodger!

Nice!!!!

I wish I would have thought about cutting the exterior door skin off to put my power windows in. Looks like you have a lot more room to work with!

The firewall on the truck looks awesome. Very smooth. Can't wait to see this one finished.

Well time for some kind of update.
We got the Body for the give away car and it fit on the chassis like it was supposed to.... Go Figure. :unibrow: This is not the stance or the ride height, it does not even have springs on the front shocks. I ordered the rear axle and rear wheels this week. These bodies are unbelievably nice. I love the MADE IN THE USA sticker inside the doors... http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...y2010024-1.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...May2010023.jpg It has some Roller 17" C5 wheels on it for now. We are again doing the Giveaway car dance called, " Waiting For Parts". |
Any updated pics of Frank's truck????

The sleeper Packard is in Paint. This car will win money for the Old Man driving a white walled sleeper at the stop light for sure. I laugh everytime I think about how much work we have put into this car. I really learned with this car that not everyone loves the ordinary cars. It has a LS engine from a 2008 truck with custom front suspension with late model truck spindles for the 5x5 bolt pattern and 4 link rear suspension with Single adjustable coilover all around. The owner has never been to a carshow and has no interest in going. He has always dreamed of driving this 1946 Packard across country when he retires. How he ends up in my shop is beyond me, But It is really cool to see the excitement this guy has for his project. He has not cut one corner.

We basically replaced the bottom 4" of the car. It was Rusty to say the least. But apparently these cars are pretty difficult to find and customer had sentimental attachment to this one. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...0/NewImage.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...hoppics001.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...hoppics002.jpg |

And the Truck. Man have we put some time in on this one also. Frank and Mary have allowed and encouraged us to go all out on this one. We are still on track to have it at SEMA later this year. We have been working on the details for few weeks. We installed some late model Chevy Latches, they work really nice. We narrowed the grille 1" on each side in a tapering fashion to loose some heaviness of the grille. That was alot of work. We hid all the bolts in the bed and made some clean little wheel tubs in the bed. We have been working with Tracy Weaver of Recovery Room on some interior stuff. The plan is to go to paint in July and interior in Sept. SEMA in November and go back to Del Mar with a truck with a bed floor for old times sake. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...May2010008.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...May2010031.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...May2010007.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...May2010012.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...May2010004.jpg The rear bumper will be a modified unit off a 67 step side truck. It will look the part for the style of truck we are doing. We have been working on plans for the front bumper and it will probably have to be a completely scratch built unit to do what we want. |
We picked up another LOCAL project. We nicknamed it DOnKey Kong transformation. Cuz she sits a little to tall for my liking and probably yours. The customer wants and really nice street car. We are replacing all the suspension with the Speedtech stuff and installing an LS3 with a 4L60 trans. It should be a nice car but really pretty basic. We have ordered all the Marquez and Ring Brothers trim parts with some Budnik wheels on this one.

Ok.. That truck is perfect. Brycen is doing an incredible job!
I have to enter to try to win that 55. I can see that Packard easily driving across the country, cool car. |

Very nice. Looks like you guys are staying busy, which is good.
The paint on the Packard looks sick! What color is that?! |

You might have your work cut out for you on winning that 55. Going across country in the back seat would be pretty spacious for even a big guy like me. |

Lots of cool projects going on..looking good
The truck and the 55 are gonna be awesome  |
Keep the Camaro as is---you just don't see them like that anymore---it reallys "stands" out/up in the crowd.
Looking forward to Pizza and the tour in about a week bro--thanks again. Doug |

Love the Packard. Be sure to post some finished pics or link us to them. Different is good.

Well I thought I might post up some pics of the 48 truck we have been working on. It is just about ready to go to paint. You can see in the pics some of the body mods we have been working on.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...une2010076.jpg Nothing like a blower from Magnuson to fill that empty space above the engine. We are adapting it to work with the Vintage Air Frontrunner. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010012.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010011.jpg A shot of the heavily modified grille, we took 1" off each side of the grille to narrow it up. You would not believe how much work that is. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...e2010105-1.jpg A shot of the rear bumper. It is a sectioned and narrowed 67 chevy truck bumper. It looks really nice on the back. We are starting on the tailgate mods currently. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010015.jpg Here is a shot of the under dash AC vents we made to hang under the dash. We do plan to change the vents, to something more period correct. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...une2010031.jpg I just want to thank Frank for allowing us to build a pretty crazy truck to the best of our ability. I can say there is not one thing I would change on this truck. Frank and I have had such similar taste on design you would think he wore gray Dickies everyday to work....:D It also looks like we have a spot for SEMA, just waiting for the official word. |
Here are just a few more pics.
The filled roof. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010005.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010006.jpg The under hood structure to help the hood keeps it's shape. http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010004.jpg Obviously not done yet.... |
The largest car in ironworks History is up and running and almost ready to test drive. We are still looking for a better quality grille. These ones are kind rough. But the best of what we have found so far.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...une2010106.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...une2010115.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...une2010118.jpg Back in 46 they even had trim on the garnish moldings.... This car has a ton of trim. A TON |
Looks awesome Rodger!
|
Top Secret Darrell got a new bullet off ebay for his Top Secret Project. I guess we will have to run a cowl hood.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010009.jpg http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...uly2010008.jpg |
Hurry up and get that truck ready -- I need to go see Tracy!
