A little progress:
Back from Media blast and this thing is more SOLID than I previously thought ! The only surprise was that the passenger side of the rear window channel was pretty much non-existent. Other than that, its ready for epoxy prime and body work. The under side will be first :unibrow: |
It's nice to have a good surprise on one of these huh? Very cool that it turned out so solid.

B) Its a pleasure working with something that isnt a "Right Coast Salt Bucket". Actually, this is THE reason I redesigned the intent and "theme" of this build. Some would frown upon a shop doing a "mailorder bolt together" car but I just could not see cutting this one up to fabricate parts and defeat the purpose of starting with such a solid car. With that said, look for some cool "mailorder bolt on parts" soon ! :_paranoid |

We have to thank Shannon at MODO Innovations for letting us help out with his new product. MODO Innovations now offers an electric trunk latch kit for 1966-67 Nova/Chevy II's. Some minor metal trimming is required to make the latch fit but the install was a walk in the park. The kit includes everything that is needed right down to the factory type screws and wire crimp connectors. The part number for this vehicle is MI 810.
http://i617.photobucket.com/albums/t...0810/MI820.jpg Here is the simple install: |
Steve's pics reminded me of a magazine install article...very detailed. I wasn't expecting anything that detailed, but I was very pleased to see the pics when he emailed them. Made my job a whole lot easier.
Thanks again Steve. |
Nice project. I dig it man. I have metal envy also..

Well..... it left for the bodyshop today (1 week early). :willy:
I will post some pics up this weekend after the guys get going. This is by far the cleanest body I've given them to start with so they were pretty excited. As for pics (I know thats what you all like), this is all i got for now. Its of the rear wheel mock-up to measure for the very special rear end thats coming soon :_paranoid |

A little progress.

The guys in the body shop had to finish up another big project first so it got off to a slow start. (we never have nor will we ever do in house body/paint. I leave that up to those who do it 100% of the time for a living).
The body got mounted up on the rotisserie, found a small spot we felt needed attention and smoothed the backside door skin area for a clean smooth look. Once I got the bumpers back from the plater, we preped, masked and undercoated the backsides. All the bracketry was coated in the satin charcoal (I am really diggin this color/finish). We will start to move quicker in the days to come. But for now.... enjoy: |
The satin charcoal looks great
|
It's been a while since I've had time to surf the site. First Thread I look at and all i can say is "NICE" !!!!!
Love the Satin Charcoal - can you get me the Paint Code of the Powder |
No problem Marty.
I have another batch going to my coater next week for a different project. I will get the info then. ps.... any coater should be able to match a paint color with powder. I was amazed at the way powder technology has advanced over the last few years. He tried talking me into a candy color early on, but I knew this project was going for a more factory / restomod look. |

Body work in progress. The rear wheel wells have been massaged and filled as well as the firewall. We're doing one panel at a time so not to miss any details. Still a long way, but making progress.

I saved the rear window channel that was rotted out. I am thinking of sending a package out west... say somewhere in Plattsmouth, NE
(just for you buddy) |
Okay I am not sure if i missed it - what color are you painting the car ??
|

The car (exterior) will be painted Steel Blue off an 08 Magnum and 300c.
Its a blue/charcoal mix. The engine compartment and dash / interior metal will be satin graphite (different than the powder color). |

I little change in plans as far as the rear end goes. Trying to keep with all things "bolt-on" or available aftermarket, TCI (Total Cost Involved)stepped up with one of their "bolt-in" rear housing assemblies. This assembly is complete to order: cut to length, proper bracketry with proper drive angle, choice of gear ratio, 31 spline center section posi. Its as close to a custom made to order rear but in a "bolt-in" package.
We have also opted for Clayton Machines Pedal assemblies. All I can say is WOW.... Stay tuned ! |

Continuing on the "smooth" approach:
If it has no purpose or is an eye soar.... its gone. Thats the idea. :unibrow: The cowl area is being massaged as well as areas like the trunk closeout panel and bumper filler. |
This is shaping up to be a really cool project. I love your color choices.
|
Very nice work.

Ready for final blocking.
After blocking I will be taking it back to the shop to Raptor Line the underbody and assembly the rear suspension. I will also install the front clip and front sheetmetal before returning it to the body shop for final panel alignment / gapping. Then...... color ! |
Very cool. Keep us posted.
|
This is a great project!
Thanks for documenting it so well. Almost like being there. Can't wait to see it with color! |
Performance Vehicle Works Dash Bezels !!
5 Attachment(s)
We want to thank Performance Vehicle Works for working with us on a set of their Replacement Dash Bezels. They are made from 18 gauge steel and fit into your stock dash bezel openings. They come standard with the holes cut for 3-3/8 Tach and Speedometer and 2-1/16 oil, water, fuel and amp or volt gauge. They also offer different gauge layouts if you prefer at no extra charge. The bezel comes with 4 upper screw holes predrilled to fit into the factory locations and they even provide a ground stud on the backside of the bezel. The Radio Bezel panel is also made from 18 gauge steel and comes with or without gauge holes. The fit and finish is absolutely incredible !
If you are looking for an alternative to a stock dash bezel or are tired of the plastic competitors fitment issues, give them a shout. They make kits for 66/67 Novas as well as 69-77 Novas !! |
looks first class.
