Lets start with how sweet the frame is looking. I love the sheen that the Summit paint has. I have been using Eastwood products for years, but I think they just got bumped out.

Unless you want potential for resonance transfer in to your cab I would not use Urethane bushings. You might have a bit more body flex with standard rubber bushings, but they will absorb exhaust resonance much better than the rock hard urethane bushings.

Update

I started cleaning the underside of the cab last night, in preparation for paint.

Before & After @ 8hrs

Here's a before & after, took about 8 hours off and on after work. Does anyone know if any OBS cabs came with a heat shield for the drivers side under cab. I plan on running long tube headers with cats right at the collectors. Should be easy to fab one also.

I have a question, is anyone or has anyone ran the polyurethane cab mounts from Energy Suspension? I bought a master kit and it has cab mounts. I want to keep the truck quite inside and thought these might induce some road noise into the cab. What are you thoughts?

I would use the stock replacement cab mounts. The GMT400 GM chassis is sensitive to the cab mounts. The build looks good I always liked those trucks.

ccreddell 12-05-2010 06:26 PM

My problem has always been that I hate it when the body lines dont line up. The stock mounts sag after a time and then the bed sits higher than the cab. I would run the urethane mounts and deal with the sound issues with dynamat or something.

Merry Christmas to me.

Courtesy of the big brown truck & Summit Racing. I am starting to put the motor back together. I bought a small cam Extreme Energy 249, I want the truck to be reliable and tame. I also went with a set of Headman Elite long tubes, 14ga tubes, 3/8" flanges. These things weigh as much or more than the stock manifolds.

Update

It’s been a while since I updated. I finished the heat shield for the drivers side under the cab. I put the long block back together. New valve seals, springs, retainers & keeper's, new cam & lifters Comp XE249. New oil pump, oil pump drive shaft w/steel collar, Eddy 3704 intake, Headman Elite HTC long tubes, 46mm TBI, adjustable FPR (Ultimate TBI mods.) etc. Headers were a very tight fit near the frame and UCA mount. I had to tape the areas and pound on them with a 1lb hammer to get enough clearance. There’s nothing like pounding on a set of new $300 dollar headers. I am very impressed with the strength of the coating, no chips, cracks or blems.

That takes a LOT of guts to start wailing on your new headers with a BFH. Looks good from here...:)

Exhaust mock-up

Just a teaser, a poor man has poor ways. I put the cab back on to mock up and install the exhaust. I ran out of mandrel 90's and made me some "paper & tape" 45's to keep going. I laid out a 45 on a 90 and wrapped it with a layer of paper and masking tape. I cut it down the inside seam, took it off and taped it back together. I'll post more pictures when I have time.

How does that summit racing chassis paint get applied?
Spray gun, or is it from a spray can?

I sprayed mine with a gun, it is a two part paint. They do sell spray cans of this paint I used one for touching up a few areas after assembly.

Started the truck and broke in the cam today. Here is a short video after I changed the oil.

Exhaust install

Here are some pictures of the exhaust. I still need to do the tail pipes after the bed is back on. I used "Stove paint" it's good to 1000 deg. F. up to 1200. I used the met dark silver. It dries to the touch in 20 min. and needs 300 Deg. F to cure. It got to 300 during the cam break in.

Just need to take the cab back off and paint everything. I'm looking at @ 4K for paint, cut & polish. Or try it my self for @ $1800. Not sure which way I'll go yet. The plan is to paint the bottom of the cab & bed and see how that turns out then go from there.

PASD U 05-29-2011 11:12 AM

When I bought mine, the plan was to use it as a test mule for moving up to painting my Chevelle. I still want the truck to come out DD nice but I won't expect perfection from myself on it. The Chevelle will be a different story. I also bought some cheap spare body panels for the truck. I figure the body panels will be like kindergarden, the truck middle school and the Chevelle college...all as far as painting is concerned.

Are you going with a mild or wild color?

Stock RED, maybe a black stripe on the hood like "Operation Muscle Truck".
