Not too many people felt like spending a million bucks on a ridler contender in 2007. Hopefully succesive years will improve as the economy does and the rebirth of GM and Chrysler. The new technology loooks promising. Ford's new 5.0, and Hotrod mag already featured a 32 rod with their ecoboost twin turbo v6 in it!!

The future still looks bright. can;t wait to see a 66 fastback built with the new 5.0 or ecoboost twin turbo. should be able to get 500 hp easy from that, now just need a 6 speed twinclutch paddleshift. good to go!

ridler 2013 should raise the bar again from troy's "first love' 34 ford

I agree, other than the Dodge truck, most of the "Great Eight" don't have the WOW factor but I don't think the economy has effected the cost of some of those builds.

Dodge Truck = Probably 7 figures
The Packard = At least $500,000 Plus
32 Roadster = At least $400,000 Plus
Gold 33 Phaeton = At least $400,000 Plus
Black 33 Vicky = $200 - $300,000
Blue 34 ford = $200 - $300,000
Green 33 ford = $175 - $250,000
37 Chevy = $150 - $200,000

These are all guestimates but I think this years build cost is pretty consistent with years hence.

I know for a fact that there is over 20k hours in the build. I worked at SAR for over 2 yrs and there was almost always at least 2 guys working on the truck. The Paint job/bodywork itself there is almost 5k hours in. They paint job is well into the 6 figure range. ;)

whiplash911 02-28-2010 12:45 AM

if i were to be given a vote - there was an amc amx there known as "wicked" .... and it was just that ..... the work and the attn to detail were second to none ...not to mention that I am a closet AMC fan (root for the underdog kinda thing) i am well aware that the 401 engine is a nightmare to work on and mod not to mention there seems to be a very very small list of folks making things out there for these cars and trust me when i say i looked very very hard at this car for almost a half hour and could not find build fault with it ....

it was the one car ( and as always there were very nice cars there ) but it was the one car that as i was driving home was thinking i would have to add it to the money no object - the perfect garage list ( dont laugh we all have one)

i attached a link to the only on-line photo i have seen so far

That's an awesome AMX!

pacificustoms 02-28-2010 09:15 AM

Does anyone know the reason why the yellow '37 with the orange flames wasn't a great 8? Had it been shown before or didn't run? By the pics it looks like it should be one of the contenders, compared to the ones that are.

gracin7 02-28-2010 09:44 AM

Thanks for the pics G Body, let me clarify something,as much as me and my guys had a big effort in the paint and polish, the owner of the car Billy, who is a car enthusiest but not in this industry, did all the body, chassis and interior mods, fabrication molding. He did some pretty amazing work and saved himself multiple six figures!!!!!!Keep the pics coming and I agree from the outside looking in,that car probably should have made the great eight.

I just heard that the 33 Phaeton won the Ridler award.

G-Body 02-28-2010 07:56 PM

I heard that to shame the intake looked like a 5 year old built it. and te car looks way outta proportion.

Just got back. We had the black over green 34 with the hemi in it that was in the great 8. Pics dont do the colors justice. There were alot of nice cars there but you have to see them in person.

Attachment 23330
It has a 547 inch Hemi in that put 1284 ftlbs on the ground and has a jerico 4-speed. Its was built to be fast and is fully caged.
Attachment 23331
The reason the yellow and flamed car did not make it is the underside fiberglass was just painted over. The guy did the car all himself in his garage and then had some one paint it. It was a cool car.

This car is really growing on me.

96z28ss 03-01-2010 09:15 AM

I thought Steve's truck was going to win the ridler. That car that won must have some really cool stuff that just isn't showing up in pictures.
Also There has never been a truck to win the ridler.

TwinSting 03-01-2010 09:31 AM

Chris
I think your guys car should have one. That car is amazing. That is the car I would want!

We built the wheels, steering wheel and a couple other odd parts on the winners car.

jimbo 03-01-2010 09:36 AM

The body on the winning car is glass. I would think it would have to be all steel, built from scratch, like the truck is.

COYBILT 03-01-2010 09:38 AM

That car is simply bad ass and gets major respect from me. You can go into a catalog like you can with a camaro or GTO for that car. If you can its very limited.

tgvettes 03-01-2010 04:59 PM

That AMX is absolutely awesome.

At least from the pictures, it appears the truck got ripoff and should have won

Smittys67 03-01-2010 05:44 PM

Tracey,

As long as nothing comes up we will be there and lousville and I think Goodguys in Norwalk will be were I try to break the trans.

96z28ss 03-01-2010 06:15 PM

I think the Firebird and the AMX are real nice cars but i don't think a muscle car would ever win the ridler, unless Foose or Troy bring one.
