A good guy and you will be amaze at finished and detail. He has a eye for the little things good choice on your shop pick. he at the top of the list I try not brag on friends but:thumbsup:

Jay Hilliard 08-26-2010 05:51 AM

Well, its been awhile since I updated. Been super busy as my father-on-law passed away in July, vacation, & spending time with my two boys. Last week I got some time to work on it a little. So.....I took the door skins off as I had found where some bodywork had been done. It was fixed correctly, but me being picky, i decided to replace them.

I plan to take the car to Dan, owner of Holohan's HotRod Shop this Sat for him to install rear quarters and a couple of other small things, then swing by the Charlotte Auto Fair.

Anyone one coming to the autofair, PM and we can exchange numbers and meet up.

Spoke with Dan

Yesterday at his shop. He said you were bringing your car. Mine should be up there some time after RTTH as well. Hopefully I will see you up there some time.

Not going to the auto fair. Had an oil pump problem and my motor is sitting on a stand. Plan on putting it back in this weekend. I am about 20 minutes south of the race track. If you have time to kill, come on down. My cell is 704-564-8577.

Jay Hilliard 08-26-2010 06:25 AM

Thanks for the offer Peyton. I'll call you if I have time to swing by. If not, we'll plan to meet at Dan's.

tones2SS 08-26-2010 07:25 AM

Nice progress Jay. Keep us posted.

GregWeld 08-26-2010 07:31 AM

Nice job on the skins Jay...

 :hail:

Jay Hilliard 08-26-2010 08:12 AM

Thanks guys. The skins and rear quarters are AMD and I am impressed with the quality. Nice sharp bends and heavier gauge metal.

waynieZ 08-26-2010 10:47 AM

Nice progress it looks great. Good to hear the sheet metal is a quality piece.

bonecrrusher 08-30-2010 07:37 AM

Payton King 08-30-2010 10:26 AM

If you are speaking of Dan's shop

It is located by the Mooresville drag strip.

bonecrrusher 08-30-2010 11:50 AM

Everything is located up there! LOL...

I'll be headed up there to get the Vette tuned whenever I get around to my heads/blower swap....

According to this website on decoding the build sheet. The D99 designation is Two Tone Paint Molding. I have never seen one before and I have no idea what it looks like or what it is. Hope this helps. If you do find a picture or anymore info post it up I love to learn more about Camaro!

KD is one of two known ECLs for a '69 blue custom interior. It would be listed on docs as 5Z87KD. ECLs are not necessarily color-specific.
D99 is listed in later Chevrolet parts books as "paint, two-tone, special order."

update from Holohans Hot Rod shop

I dropped the wife's car off with Dan Holohan at his shop in Mooresville a couple weeks ago. He has started on it and sent some pics.

waynieZ 09-15-2010 07:03 PM

Its looking good.

Jay Hilliard 10-01-2010 06:41 AM

Here are some more pics. Dan is doing an awesome job. I could not ask for better work, attention to detail and all work done correctly as if it was his car.

He catches the small things, like the RR had been replaced before, but the qtr panel re-enforcement panel was not there. Alot of shops would have not said a word,, taken the time to add this peice in and just installed the quarter anyway.

Looks like things are moving along nicely. I wish I was moving as fast on Nova as you are moving on your Camaro. Is this your garage in the background? If so I'm so jealous. LOL. Keep up the great work!

waynieZ 11-03-2010 08:13 PM

That work is amazing. Beautiful !

Frankenstine 11-03-2010 09:04 PM

Hey Jay, Nice car, nice work,? on your replacement metal did you use AMD on all of it? I have heard nice things about AMD. I will be moveing back to NC after the first of the year, and will begin working on my 69, I am planning to do most of the tear down myself to save some clam$, I am impressed on the workmanship of Holohan's Shop, will definatly look him up, Thanks and keep the picks comming.

Dan uses Tig for 99% with everything he does. You can get the rods from most welding supply places.

I used AMD for everything. Its alot nicer than others and heavier gauge. I have a NOS trunk lid and bought an AMD and the AMD is heavier by a few lbs. Go check out Dan and his shop. Excellent work, sends pics constantly, great communication.

I am planning to pick it up Sat. Dan has done an excellent job and as he says..."I do it as if it were mine".

I will call you and see if you have anything going on Sat and want to meet up for lunch.

I have been in collision shops for 20 years . Never seen it used . Kinda sad really . I have cut parts off that use it good stuff .

Less heat ? I know it grinds easier than mig welding .

You are correct. Per Dan, it does use less heat and is easier to grind. I am not very familiar with it myself.

Looks great Jay. Really good! You must be getting jacked up seeing the pics.
