I am glad that I am not the only one who thinks the hood is cool. I know it doesn't fit with the rendering, but if you really built the car to be aggressive with a street fighter look, you definitely could keep it. The other recommendation would be to consider sending the hood to pain along with the hood that you are going to run. Use the scooped hood for track days.

GregWeld 04-13-2010 05:23 PM

Too many years ago to remember how many now ---- my brother in law (best friends then - until I married his little sister) had a pink and white International Harvester (like a version of a full size blazer) and it had a transplanted Oldsmobile with tri power... the throttle pedal was hooked to the center 2 bbl -- and a piece of ROMEX (house wire) was hooked to the other two --- it came in thru the firewall and under the dash and made a loop back to the dash and was tired off to some switch that didn't pull out --- if he wanted to cut in the extra deuces -- he'd mash the pedal to the floor and reach over and pull on this "wire"....

Too dang funny! We just didn't know how - or didn't care - to figure out how to make some "real" linkage.

Me and my nephew started the tear down sunday all went well. She came apart pretty easy thats because half the parts just fell off from rust. We unbolted the front end and the right side subframe came right out of the floor, scared the sh^t out of us.. As we took things off it kept getting worse! My RUST FREE ebay ''DEAL'' is a friggin horror show!:faint: I knew I had alot of work ahead of me but now I have ALOT of work ahead of me .... I knew I was going to replace the floors, roof, rockers, rear tail pan, etc. But I was't planning on replacing the whole cowl ,well thats going to be replaced now also. Should have it mounted on the frame jig this week to start removing the panels ...

How far do you go before you it's not worth fixing any more?
quarters, floors, cowl, roof, whats left of the original car?

Mike

awr68 04-19-2010 06:21 PM

Keep at it! Just think when it's all done it will be like new...or actually much better!!

Tony is correct, to me it all about the experience. And I know what has been done to the car.

Mike --- I ask myself the same question all the time when I see stuff like this... Guy rips into it - next thing you know - only the roof hasn't been replaced. Us BestCoast guys usually can still find decent starter cars... but even then it's a tough call.

Mario (DOOM) can handle this better than most - if you note his signature in the posts... He's no mere mortal!

Mike .. I like to call it the thrill of the build!!:_paranoid .I hear what your saying .. This is a major challange for me.I love taking something from nothing and making something from it. I also have alot of people locally that think I can't do this. This motivates me more. I want to blow them away. And believe me this isn't the only reason.. I can go on and on it really does'nt matter. Hope this helps you understand a little..

Looking forward to this thread. We all need motivation! I'm in the same boat as you (without oars)! Replacing every panel, floor, frame rails, and roof!

I was thinking about this on the way into work today. Right now the only original metal on my car is the rear body panel and rockers.

Mario, if you question the roof, just do it. The replacement roof is a nice piece and it sure makes welding a rollbar in much easier.

It's coming off for sure ..

Looking forward to the build

I agree, the roof panel is a nice piece, probably the best of all the repop stuff. Rockers cowl and rear inner fenderwells were the only thing I kept from my orginal car. Took me 2 years to hunt down all the NOS stuff at a decent price, but that was 6 years ago. I know a guy that deals in NOS if you need a source.

Bow Tie 67 04-20-2010 07:20 AM

NOS is nice but its easier on the heart if you bang up Goodmark. :D

Congrats on starting work on your car. I feel your pain. If it makes you feel any better, look what Frank and John are starting with!

Thats the problem I wasn't thinking, other than I wanted around the guy in front of me real bad.

This build will kick some butt. At some point this summer I would love to stop by and take a look.
