Let me know if I got any of the cars mixed up. |
I have 230 pics. Do you guys just want to see street machine/muscle cars? Probably around half are street rods. The majority are from the awards areas. It'll take a minute for me to get them resized and figure out the best way to show them. I'll post some of the really good stuff here soon.
I have some gripes. One it really sucks that there was no autocross. That made it just a beauty contest again. That leads into the second need to vent: Combined with the normal auto show politics, the lack of performance proof really seemed to set the tone for an outright beauty contest. There were other cars that, IMO, seemed much more suited to be in the top five. The person representing the Mustang had to admit - on mic, before everyone - that the Mustang was pretty much stock underneath - just Air Ride (SMOY sponsor :_paranoid ) and Baer brakes... Meanwhile, cars with actual engineering and hardcore fabrication sat in the parking lot getting sun tans. I usually don't pay much attention to trophies and awards at car shows other than to see who actually won (after the fact). I go to see the baddest cars on the planet (only go to major shows), and enjoy talking custom $h!t with really awesome people. I need to go back to that. I had a great time talking to one of the (Ring) Brothers - felt like I new him for years after a few minutes; and definitely had fun talking to Bob Johnson again. I spotted him walking around with Alan before the ceremony (I was in the bleachers) and made my way down to say hi afterwards. The band was pretty cool too - took me back to junior high and high school. Remember where I left off (Bob Johnson) when I return with a few really sweet pics... ;) |

The car is still incredible. |
Just got home from a long weekend with Mike from Musclerodz. Rained pretty much all day Friday but we made up for it saturday. Definatley some serious craftsmen out there. I only wish I could be half as good as the losers. It's funny to see the old beat up cars driving around but the onwers still take alot of pride in there ride and only go for the sake of showing off there ride. That's what it's all about not picking out gaps and waves. Or comparing who has the most money in the car. It's about the hard work and craftsmenship. I really enjoy seeing the originality and emagination that goes into these cars.
A very popular Builder on this sight once told me he dosent do trophy shows anymore because after all that hard work, time and money that last thing you want to hear is some guy picking your car a part. I'm in it for the brother hood and all the great people I have met over the years. Sure I want to show off my work but I know I could never compare to what I saw this week end. I just consider it an extension to my network of friends and family. Hats off to all that made it into the show and congrats to all the winners. oh yea, wanna have fun one night, go drinking with Mike, Yagerbombs to the resque. |
I don't care what they announce over that loudspeaker for promoting the show, the bar is still set here:
http://toddperkinsdesign.com/images/...01%20(199).jpg http://toddperkinsdesign.com/images/...01%20(131).jpg Seeing the G-Force Cuda in the same place as last year's SMOY, and this year's winner and contenders really paints the picture how special this car is. It's still fresh, still in another place... So glad it's back! (from Seinfeld) I'll try to post more pics before I leave tomorrow morning, I'm beat. PS - I don't mean to take anything away from any other hot rods, builders, or owners - just expressing my personal preference. It wasn't meant as a put down to anyone, just as kudos to Johnson & Johnson. I like RS' Vette from last year, and was happy to see it again. Just look how awesome the kid in the second pic thinks it is - his candy even tasted sour in the presence of such a sweet hot rod! |
F'n A. That is the bar. It will be along time before someone out does it.

Does anyone have photos of the 67 Mustang that made it into the Top 5? |

Manning's car on the other hand had some of the BEST fit and finish I have ever seen on ANY car not just Camaro's. DSE did an incredible job. |
I just got back from the Good Guys show with 872 pictures. I will try to get one of the boys to post some of them.

Man i know im gonna have to be a dick and say this.. The front absolutely RUINS the car.. man thats gonna look dated in a few years... I think the back looks okay but damn did they have to put the front bumper in Val Kilmer batman style? "I love it.." http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e.../ValKilmer.jpg |
I have never seen the 54 Vette in person but am surprised it did not make the top 5. There is at least one car that Vette should have beat into the top 5.
|
I am very shocked the 54 Vette did not make it in the top 5 as well. In person it looked great to me.
Congrats to everyone that made the top 5 none the less  |

And not much you can do if it rains.. just bad luck (or good if your car handles like a pig) I'm pretty sure the Roadster Shops car would be a handler as well since all thier stuff does. The rest is a mystery! http://i49.tinypic.com/1535v6d.jpg |

Seems like after that year with the 4 Camaros they now do the PC deal and have a ford/chevy/mopar in the mix.. like a quota system.. lol Sorry I missed the show, but I got a ton of work done. |

i couldn't believe the vette didn't make it. the mustang was a suprise to me. it was very nice though. i really liked the 72 firebird(it was different). the camaro was just way out there to me. it kinda reminded me of the cuda from 07, but it stood out from the rest to me. awesome.
