Floor torrsional stiffness
Here is a pic of a stock floor with no sub-connectors.. one of the weakness of a first gen Camaro is that the center of the floor has no bracing to really help body flex.. They corrected this problem on the 2nd gens..
http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/P2010041.jpg Here is something that I am doing to help add stiffness to the center of the car.. This 68 already had DSE sub-frame connectors on it when it arrived @ the shop... so I added a convertible OE factory center stiffening brace that goes from rocker to rocker tied in to the sub-frame connector & a Hotckis bolt on brace.. We still need to finish adding the pcs to the sub-frame connector to rocker.. but I think you guys get the idea.. when done it should give it a triangulated effect on the center of the floor.. I remember this feature on convertibles from my days of restoring first gen Camaros.. http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0312.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0314.jpg |

Taking a different approach to the rear qtr stretch..
http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0320.jpg |
Any Updates? I'd really like to see how your qtr. strech is coming along.:hail:

Got us all worked up and then cut us off. What a pic tease! :_paranoid

rear qtr stretch update
Here is the latest update on the rear qtrs... We are finishing up all the small details.. We will be starting the front fenders this week..
http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0328.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0379.jpg http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0380.jpg |
Looking good! That quarter looks factory. It will cause a lot of head scratching as people will look at it and say its different but how? And how did you fit those tires?

Shifter tunnel plates
Here are some plates that we machined last week for the shifter.. The transmission tunnel is almost done.. but need these pcs to complete it..
The thin steel ring will be welded to the tunnel & the aluminum plate will give it access thru the top to remove the shifter when tranny needs to removed... http://i1015.photobucket.com/albums/...n/IMG_0381.jpg |
Killer work Cris. Keep us posted bud!

Cris, Was the fender strech this way vs. the way it was on TrackRat a better way to go? It almost seems ashame to cut up and toss out good factory qtrs :_paranoid .
Travis |
This stretch is totally different from what we did to Track Rat... One of the things I did not like from when we started doing this body modifcation was that it was rasing the body line & the wheel well opening... The way it is done on this car it less noticable that the qtr was widen up..
This car needed both qtrs replaced.. plus one of the reason I got the project was because the customer wanted all four corners blown out.. Quote:

Cris,
Do you think this is as wide as you'll mod any future builds? |
Thanks for explain:thumbsup: . I was hoping to do the qtr./fender stretch on my 67', BUT I think my qtrs. are in good condition so was hoping to use the orginals. Well I'll cross that bridge when I can afford it, Thanks for the info.

I got another 68 Camaro that we are widen up!! Using a C6 Corvette suspension... We are building the chassis & suspension first .. Then doing the body modifcations...

A/C firewall acess plate
Last nite we designed up this firewall plate... I really don't like flat firewalls so figured that we would try somthing different.. By doing this plate it allows us to get to the A/C system by removing the plate & it holds the bulkheads for the A/C & heater hoses..

VERY cool piece (as usual!)
Are you thinking of something similar for behind the wiper motor/master cylinder on the other side? |
Very Nice thats a cool idea. I think it will look great..
