Yes, I want to do 67/68 parts next. If this 69/70 hood sells well, we might just do a similar hood for 67/68. Of course we'll also make a trunk lid and other interior and exterior parts.

You know Matt maybe you are right, I should stay away. Your Mustang will be totally bad a$$.I would not want to steal your thunder at sema when you cover your latest project.any way man this thing is going to be a real show stopper.I think the 69 mustang's are going to be the next 69 camaro.

1969 was a good year! I still think that '69 Camaros are the new '32 Ford because of their great design and ease of modifying the front clip, but I think the '69 Mustang has incredibly sexy lines.

67greengt 08-11-2010 11:06 AM

how much are you selling the 69/70 hoods for?

Starting price for carbon fiber top layer should be around $800. We will also offer most of our parts in fiberglass for a lower entry level cost as well as a very high end pre-preg autoclaved version.

67greengt 08-11-2010 08:03 PM

Cool, sounds good - let me know when you get to the 67/68 stuff I'll be patiently waiting. I'm thinking of using a reactor front valance and bumper and then something different for a hood..

You may be right. Ford is offering the new 5.0L Coyote in crate form for $6999. That outta jump start the EFI conversions for the Ford Boys. I want to put one in an early Bronco.

Wow that is a smokin deal for that engine.

Yeah, that's what I thought, and that is MSRP. I bet you can get them cheaper eventually through some dealers, etc. Same exact engine/config as the 2011 5.0L Mustang. If that isn't exciting, I don't know what is!

That's a great idea! I have '70 Bronco and I want to eventually rebuild it. It has a 351W in it now, but that new 5.0 is awesome. My brother-in-law just got a new Mustang GT and he can't say enough good things about the engine. Maybe that's just what the pro-touring Ford faithful needed to get a jump on the Camaros. The new 5.0 is to Mustangs as the LS is to Camaros.

Very cool build Matt.

BTW, the Ford 5.0 DOHC is on sale for $6145 here.

Have you picked out a drivetrain for this car? It might not be too late to do one, that would put it at the front of everyone's brain if this car was built with a new Coyote in it. Just a thought. Maybe someone will chip in and help develop some new motor mounts and headers to facilitate it. I can't imagine the market wanting to hold back on developing a retrofit for early stangs.

FWIW, I love this project and the rendering. The color scheme, and the wheels are righteous. Can't wait to see the progress!

Goolsby Customs is doing one of the new 5.0's in their Mustang. Supposedly, they had one of the very first motors snuck out of Ford. We had the engine here for mock up in their chassis. It looks like a realy nice, user firendly piece, unlike the 4.6L and 5.4L's

Here are some update pics taken a couple days ago aver at Mick's Paint. The rear quarters were pulled out about 1 1/2" on either side. the wheel wells have also been mini-tubbed which will allow us to clear the monster 345 meats on the back. The quarters were a lot of work, but unless you knew it or had a stock Mustang next to it, you wouldn't know it. The front fenders that will be made in carbon fiber have also been widened to accomodate a wider tire and give us a little lip on the front wheels. If you were to look at the car from above, it would have a subtle hourglass shape.

I'm rarely a Mustang fan, especially those that aren't of the 67/68 variety but this just may change the game!

I'd highly recommend GMP. They've done the 69 Mustang already on a collaboration deal with Welly. In particular, they were the Trans Am series Mustangs. Oh...and not to forget...GMP has done both the Z/28 Nova and HAMMER, two of Steve Stropes creations.

OK, time for some updates!
The car will be painted this week. Here are some recent pics at Mick's paint located at So. Cal Speed Shop.
You can see Mick and Steve in the background trying to look important.

More Fiber!

Here are shots of the first parts out of the molds. So far we have a hood and one set of fenders in carbon outer/fiberglass underlayers. I will have some full carbon fiber versions soon which I plan to put on the car, however I want to keep these around as back ups until the car is closer to being finished. I will then have these for sale along with a bunch of other parts we are making.

Matt..... Any plans on the paint to let some of the carbon fiber show (STRIPE) on the fenders. It would be a shame to hide all this beautiful carbon fiber.:wow:

They will start at arouund $1250 a set for carbon/fiberglass (just like the ones I posted pictures of). Full carbon will be around $2250. Pre-preg (dry carbon) somewhere around $3000. If you look closely, you will see that these fenders are about an inch wider than stock, but with the stock flare, so it's very hard to discern.
Hoods will start at around $850.

The '69 Camaro fenders are ready to mold. Unfortunately, since the Mustang needs to be done for SEMA, they have been put on the back burner. It's all about money and time, and I wish I could do everything now, but I am forced to prioritize. As a matter of fact, my '69 Camaro project is on the back burner now too, which pains me.:( There's always next year!

65 347 09-03-2010 10:06 AM

Please!!! make a hood for a '65 mustang, that is awsome!

67greengt 09-03-2010 11:15 AM

Matt,

Car is looking awesome!! I love the subtle body mods to encorporate the bigger wheels/tires. I know you said you're going to finish the Mustang for Sema and then it sounds like the 69 Camaro fenders are next - any kind of timeline for the 67 Mustang Fenders and Hood?

Thanks and keep up the good work
Tom
