yeah, saw that and I am interested but they've pulled the "get your money back" deal for entries going forward...

Gonna wait this one out till we get closer to 1/23. I dont run in the rain. |
I'm signed up for the 23rd. Also, there is a FREE test day this Sunday (Jan. 8th) at Thunderhill (for competition cars only I believe). Here's the info: http://thunderhill.com/article.php?s...20102105423813
on the race car front... I have a tow rig now and the car is at the body shop. it will be painted and ready to be picked up around Wed. of next week. I've posted some new updates on the blog and here's a pic of the car after being stripped... My first race weekend is Feb. 11/12 at Infineon! http://asifnyc.com/?p=1226 http://asifnyc.com/?p=1237 http://asifnyc.com/?p=1245 http://asifnyc.com/wp/wp-content/upl.../stripped1.jpg |
Asif, responded to your PM about the 8th. I'm going to try and make that.
|
Free track day. Gotta love that!
Looking fwd to seeing you and your car on the 23rd, Asif. Which run group did you sign up for? I am just in Solo with NCRC. Gaetano, just sign up now. You know you will be there. |
I've been checking the NCRC site and it looks like there is still plenty of room in open group for the 23rd. Need to be sure it isn't going to rain. If weather looks good I should be there.
As far as the 8th goes, It's hard to pass up a free track day especially in your own backyard but I need to dig up some longer studs with the correct knurl size for my front hubs because the mounting pad on the new wheels is too thick for the existing wheel studs. |
I'm in the open group for the 23rd...

picking up the car from the paint shop tomorrow. And I'll be running the car at Infineon THIS Friday afternoon 1pm - 4pm in an open test session they are running.
|
I still need to press the longer wheel studs into my front hubs. Ordered new front shocks last night and then I have alignment.
Wish i could go, Infineon is a great track. Good luck out there  |
cars painted!
cars been tech'd and log book issued! I have a rookie license! got the car out of paint last Thursday and jumped on a test session at Infineon on Friday (weather was awesome). it was just a 3hr afternoon session and I had a few issues that kept me off track for some of it (plus there were a number of black flags and even a red flag). anyway, 26 days till the first race. write up and video of Friday on my blog here: http://asifnyc.com/?p=1262 |
Nice vid... car looks sweet with new paint!
|
Congratats on the paint, rookie license and log book.
Looking forward to following your season. |

Good luck!! |

thanks G! hoping it's mostly dry on Sunday...

I was thinking about your vibration....
Do you have a lot of body lift at high speed? If so you may have a pinion angle change that is leading to vibration. It would be interesting if you get the same vibration on a chassis dyno. |
hey Bryce,
I did think about a chassis dyno and am looking into that. my pan hard bar is ABOVE my axle and people have commented that it is not ideal and could/would cause lift. here's a pic of the car leaning... looks like a lot to me but what do I know? http://www.gotbluemilk.com/web120212...s/image42.html |
I'd drop the panhard for sure. Try that before making any other changes. One change at a time so that you know what and why.
|
Congrats on a successful first race! Car looks bitchin!
|
nice job.
Ideally you want the rear roll center as low as possible, however that generally goes with higher spring rates to keep the car balanced. How long is your phb? center to center? The center of it is the rc of the rear of the car, so you want to get the phb as long as possible to put the rc in the middle of the car,so that the forces on the springs and shocks are even side to side. Thats why watts links are so good for road racing in a stick axle application. I would never go higher then axle centerline for the phb height, however you will need to stiffen the springs/shocks as you lower the phb or you will just create more of a push. |
Very cool write up. I'm tossing the Idea around for an AI car next year as well. Your story has given me a bit of inspiration.
As to your vibration, I had a similar issue, and it ended up being the rear end was junk. Swapped to a new Speedway Engineering unit, new Currie third member, and no more high speed vibes. I know that is probably no what you want to hear, but at a minimum I'd check the rear axle for "trueness" and pic yourself up a second carrier to rebuild. Never hurts to have a spare set of gears around. |
well, race weekend number 2 is this weekend... here's the schedule in case anyone wants to come out. This is at Infineon (Sonoma, CA) again.
Sat 8:05am warmup (20 mins) 10:25am qual (20 mins) 2:10pm race (30 mins) Sun 2pm warmup (20 mins) 3:25pm qual (20 mins) 5:20pm race (30 mins) and here's a write up of some recent activity... http://asifnyc.com/?p=1284 ended up building a new, aluminum driveshaft. hoping that's addressed the vibration. we'll see... |
Good luck Asif, I'm going to try and get out there again and lend a hand if you need it
|
cool, hope to see you. you bringing the white camaro again?
|
I dropped the white Camaro off at Vinces new shop last weekend. Too lazy to throw the heater box in so I asked Vince to do it for me. Talked to Sevilla today and it sounds like he's bringing his '67 Camaro so it looks like you will have two extra hands.

well, I blew the motor at the April Buttonwillow race (missed a shift, spun to 10k)...
took a couple months to get the motor rebuilt and then I was stuck at work all summer. But the rebuilt motor is back in the car and I'm headed back to Buttonwillow for the Oct. race... |
