on one video on youtube that shows the actual crash it says its a salt water lagoon.not really sure what that is.
amazing the guy that crashed the bugatti and its filmed.he was probably on the phone or texting.i felt sorry for the flatbed guy that had to hook the thing.at least he cared enough to clean his hands in a puddle before he turned the steering wheel.b/j is to scary for me.remember all the drama from the reggie jackson bidding on his copo or zl1/there is alot of good threads on yenko.net about b/j

"Multi-Million Dollar Sales and Some Controversy at Barrett-Jackson"

The ’54 Bonneville Special sold for $2.9 million last night, and believe it or not, that wasn’t the big news.

All eyes were on the bidder who supposedly bid $4.1 million for the GM Futurliner bus. Only he didn’t bid $4.1 million. After thinking about raising his bid for a moment, the bidder made a slicing motion across his neck and said “I’m out.” Only, the auctioneers took that as a bid. The second bidder immediately said he was out.

When the dust cleared, the paperwork for the bus was presented to the first bidder, who refused to sign it saying he clearly bailed out from the bidding process. Half of the auction staff was there trying to get the controversy sorted, and eventually, Craig Jackson and the bidder went to the Skybox to watch a replay of the “bid” which was being filmed by Speed.

By 10:00 or so last night, word was that Barrett-Jackson had accepted the fact that the bidder bailed out of the process. Management was trying to square a deal for the owners of the Futurliner late into the night

The other Mercedes had what 900 miles?

Interesting subject. My painter Andrew, my adopted 4th son, graduated police academy this summer. So we pull into the auditorium at the college graduation and what is parked right at my front bumper between a little sedan and a sport utility? A Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu, Bleu (not Blue) carbon fiber and polished aluminum. Just sitting in the parking lot like every other car there! I could not believe it. On the way out it was raining good and the skys were full of lightening and and threats of hail. Lisa snapped of a shot, if you look close you will see a wet line around it.

Through further investigation I find out from a friend that knows the owner. it is a daily driver driven from Sanford to New Smyrna, about 60 miles each way of country road, everyday!

I thought I had seen it when we were in Festival of Speed last year. I dug around and found some more info on the car and a pic from Festival of speed.

Must be nice. But like you Rodger, I would have it no other way.

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu has ventured into new areas. Instead of applying two paint colors or paint and material to highlight the two tone design, the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu exclusively concentrates on materials – carbon fiber and aluminum – an innovative combination never realized before. This unique approach opens a new dimension of « Art – Form – Technique », the company’s core values.

The color combination is blue carbon fiber with polished aluminum. The visual carbon fiber is tinted in royal blue to emphasize the refined volumes and surfaces of the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport. The rear air scoops are tinted in the same night-blue – offering a dramatic view from above – and thus fluidly integrate into the overall design philosophy of this unique model.

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu is the latest in a line of centenary Bugatti models which have won worldwide acclaim in 2009. This unique car stands – like the others – for the commitment of the Bugatti of today to carry the values and the philosophy of Ettore Bugatti, the founder of this unique marque, into a successful future.

If you think people haven't made money selling their cars there, you have no ideal. Keep quiet because you're clueless.

I agree with Mark.

I have two buddies that are in the business -- they'll take 30 + cars to BJ Scottsdale -- and they'll make a killing on some of 'em -- do okay on a few -- and lose on a couple more. Overall.... they do just fine. Their costs of transportation are lowered by taking entire truckloads - one pickup point - one drop off point. They know how to detail to the max - and they know how to pimp to the max. They'll spend months in advance getting the word out on what they're bringing. Beating the drums and getting the marketing done. They don't start that on the day of the show.

Here's the BIG BUTT in the room -- since they're big time customers and know what they're doing - they have prime time #'s - and they have cars that are bought to sell... and bring top dollar. They don't do 'weird' and one off. They do DESIRABLE - MARKETABLE - MAINSTREAM.

The guys that loose - are the single car sellers - non prime time - and they only have one car to apply all their costs too... That's hard to make money on for anyone.

Exactly, well said GW

Yeah...uhh...some people actually do make money selling their cars there, but it's not 90% of people like it was 6-7 years ago. Also, it's a pretty bad generalization that if you lose money on auctioning a car that you're now an idiot. It really boils down to you win some, you lose some.

Mark, your car is badass and I'm sorry you didn't get your number. I'm sure it was worth every penny you were hoping for.

Right. Just about consigner I spoke to had been to a BJ auction before, and they all had more then one car there. The auction had about 120 more cars there this year then last. So the "idiots" are multiplying. :_paranoid

Mark,

I am sorry you did not get your number.....but you got guts  I mean it must have had less than a 1000 miles on it?
Your car was awesome and while the number is low I would still guess you came out better than others because you did most of the work yourself.
I look forward to your next build.

Thanks. Probably about 10 miles :wow: . I don't like taking a car to a show, so it sat until the auction. I'd say about 10 people saw the car in person, before the auction.

Yeah, I didn't really loose on it, I made, but I was hoping for more. I have no labor cost in the car, and I don't really count my time because it's just something I do because I can, I enjoy it, and it beats watching TV. Getting magazine coverage helps when it comes time to buy parts too, ;) .

Some people do make money.

I just got a market report from my friend Anthony that ran EmptyNest and II Much last year. He takes multiple cars to auctions, especially Barrett Scottsdale and Vegas. It was his stroke which got us the killer run numbers for our cars. He said overall things were strong this year and said he saw your car Mark and thought it went $15K to $20K light.

He made mad stacks though. He took a early C1 Vette, he bought for $60K, had $64K in it at the door at Vegas, it broke the bank and he got $125K. Also had a Mid Vette, had $32K in it at the door at Vegas, got $57K, and a Ferrari made $6K on a $30K car. And he made a nice $5K commission running a friends car. So money is made. He also bought 2 cars which I think he stole one of them, we will see how good he did come Mecum Orlando

On the other side of the coin, his friends (dealers) took a GTO convertible they had $125K in and it brought $57K. So the pendulum swings both ways.

been there done that . I to fell for the barret jackson hype. also fell for sun. is still primetime .a very expensive trip to pay for and get your azz kicked.should have taking my money and betting I could put a piece of coal up my but before the auction and turned it into a diamond. prob. would have had better luck. was kinda cool to spend the week there to see behind the scenes as for the auction goes they really need to step up to the plate and know what in front of them and take care of the people that are feeding there greed!got my 1.5 min of enjoyment in the spotlight and then stood back and asked myself what just happened.oh yea and me to have been disillusioned by the bj. experienced. lol.
