How about some pictures of the paint/assembled fenders?

(PS, we are NOT happy with the paint. None of the stripes line up, the stripes dont wrap around the door or into the jambs, the firewall/engine bay was left in black epoxy instead of a proper two stage paint so it has no durability (we have to strip it back apart) and the paint SUCKS. It is orange peeled horribly, has more dirt in it than our floor, and the list goes on and on like dry spray under the rockers(didnt lift the car up to paint under) etc etc.

Plus its not done, where is my hood or trunk? Not painted yet! Won't ever reccommend this guy, especially not for the price. But we will work through it........

By the way the doors are not latched in any of those pics, so thats why it looks funny.

64pontiac 01-22-2011 11:17 PM

I never posted pics of what we were doing for the steering wheel/shifter.

We aborted this as now we are going with the caddy column and tap shifter so the wheel is up for grabs now with the shifter, but it was cool at the time.

Originally the customer wanted a flaming river waterfall wheel, which does not have a standard style mount that you could sandwich the TCI paddle shifter into (it is recessed into a custom adapter)

so we remade the whole steering wheel center assembly and the adapter, and sunk the paddle shifter into the two to hide it. Then, because the center of the wheel is so large, we had to make a window so you could see the display.

I need to take a better picture straight on to the wheel, but it is in the perfect spot for your hands, and from the driver seat all you see is the plus/minus symbols of the paddles. The rest of the paddles are behind the wheel. And with the whole thing brushed it looks awesome! I think it would look great in black anodized if you took the leather off and then wraped the wheel in suede after for the race look?

I would love to see it used on something! And my personal car is a t56....too bad

tones2SS 01-23-2011 08:29 AM

Looks good Tyler. Good job.

64pontiac 01-23-2011 09:36 AM

Thanks alot! Feedback is always great. I can't wait to turn the key on this one. Even with all the Speedtech stuff we have installed, I havent gotten to wheel it around myself yet!!!

Can't wait to shake it down.

Werks 01-23-2011 04:12 PM

Looks like good work! I like the style of the wheel. Who is the manufacturer?

64pontiac 01-23-2011 04:58 PM

The wheels are Rushforth Rated X, the steering wheel is flaming river waterfall

BanditDave 01-31-2011 02:12 PM

Man this is a phenomenal build man....great attention to detail. Love that paddle shifter setup.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the color of the car?

Dave

Thanks for getting back to me 64Pontiac! I guess I should have specified the steering wheel, but you got it.

waynieZ 01-31-2011 03:28 PM

Tyler this car is amazing! I love everything you did to it. Awesome work. I can't imagine figuring out all that wiring. Nice work.

Rybar 01-31-2011 03:58 PM

Wheels and stance are dead on. Well done.

64pontiac 02-14-2011 08:56 PM

Thanks for all the compliments. So a quick update, we had the whole thing pretty much ready for interior, and while washing the car, we found that all the black paint in the engine bay was wiping off onto the wash cloths.

Long story short, the painter used a cheap, unsealed primer to coat everything instead of a proper black paint and flattened clear, or even a semi gloss single stage.

We had to strip EVERYTHING down to nothing and repaint it all. If the videos weren't so big, I would post them to you tube. The paint literally came off on our rags like it had paint stripper on it.

It was a 10k setback. 126 hours to disassemble, strip and paint. While it was apart we even redid the door jambs, as the painter totally killed the paint when assembling the first time.

I will get some pics up to date tomorrow.

64pontiac 02-17-2011 10:08 AM

We fixed (repainted) the firewall, dash area, inner fenders, rad cradle, inside of fenders and front end, door jambs, and finished the windshield frame. If you notice in the previous pictures the paint shop that did this did not even paint the winshield frame. They were "going to do it later" so we did it. The door jambs were so chipped from lack of care we had to re spray them too.

Turned out great considering we are not a paint shop!

Looks great, looking forward to see this project progress.

tones2SS 02-17-2011 05:05 PM

That does look great Tyler.

64pontiac 02-24-2011 05:38 PM

So we got the front clip back on and almost done aligning, just need to add the hood and trunk. Then reinstall all the plumbing, grille, and on to the interior.

If anyone picked it out in the last pictures, yes those are temporary grade 5 fasteners holding the fenders on. We are machining custom fasteners for all the fender bolt locations.

The car looks great. Thats going to be such a sweet ride when its done. Is that a custom color ? I don't know if you mentioned it before.

64pontiac 02-24-2011 07:31 PM

The color is Mitsubishi Rotor Glow Orange (M08)

We are getting closer!

70 chevelle 02-24-2011 08:43 PM

Killer work on this car. Love the dash.

mexMan 02-25-2011 04:01 PM

I'm really liking the ''Caddymaro'', or ''Camalac''?

64pontiac 02-25-2011 04:48 PM

Haha, nice names. Couldn't figure that one out either :_paranoid

bonecrrusher 02-26-2011 01:55 PM

How hard are the electronics on that dash going to be? Gauge cluster going to work, the nav setup?

mrbigblock 02-26-2011 07:20 PM

Great work, that dash is a feat in itself can't wait to see it

64pontiac 03-10-2011 08:27 PM

Got the grille almost finished. The grille changed direction during assembly, so here we go again! No more stock style grille, we cut up another grille surround and made a sheet metal insert, which will be backed by waterjet plastic honeycomb, with a little trick up our sleeve for the headlight doors.

It is going to be the same color as the stripes, with the grille surround in body color, and we are using the chrome opening moulding.

Enjoy

Tyler - What size is the wheel/tire set on the car?

Despite the challenges the project is looking pretty good.

ChevelleNV 03-11-2011 07:53 AM

I'm not really a big fan of Camaro's. But that's gonna be sick.

64pontiac 03-11-2011 08:03 AM

Rear wheels are 19x12 with 7 inches of lip (rushforth rated x) and fronts are 18x9

Whats the tire size. Looks really nice.

64pontiac 03-12-2011 10:07 PM

tires are 335/30/19 in the rear. could do a 345 with the Speedtech torque arm though!

Here is our latest piece, it was thought of after paint, otherwise we would have made a pocket and radius reveal for it like the tail lights have from the factory....it will have to do.

The center of the rectangular piece and the dish in the cap will be media blasted for texture and colored a grey like the surrounds of the Marquez tail lights (which the border and chamfer match) and the radial bolt pattern will have cap screws like the Ring Bros. door handles. Also, its not polished yet, we JUST finished it today and wanted to see what it looked like!

We are just about to send the Camaro for some interior work. Been doing some finishing stuff, got the mirrors on today. They are Sunspecs

http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/...o/IMG_3692.jpg

64pontiac 03-15-2011 08:39 PM

We are using Marquez door panels. To make them work with the dash, we are making fiberglass pockets in the fronts. Its tough to explain, but the center pocket will be ended after the dash, so it doesnt colide with it, and the arm rest will flow down out of the dash.

In the rear, the panels are split around the roll bar and will have a double stitch seam there to match the rest of the upholstery.

fleet 03-15-2011 08:53 PM

That is one serious '69.

Has this been one of your more challenging builds?

64pontiac 03-15-2011 08:59 PM

This is the most challenging as a whole, its our biggest build for sure (as we are just reaching our 2 year old mark as a shop)

But not our most technical project, or most complicated...... some of our chassis builds have had more head scratching!! Just more math and computer work on some others. As it is a Camaro, sometimes its harder to work on 40 plymouths or mustangs etc as parts are not as readily available

tones2SS 03-16-2011 05:00 PM

Great work Tyler. Looks awesome.
Keep us posted.

64pontiac 03-30-2011 07:05 PM

Ok how about a little update/teaser? We are having the recaros done in custom leather, and the car is out for the convertible top install right now......

What do you think of the logo in the seats???? Its not huge, just subtle.

waynieZ 03-30-2011 07:26 PM

Sweet! I like it.

64pontiac 04-11-2011 06:18 PM

Sent the car out for upholstery a couple weeks ago, wanted to give you guys a shot of the new seat skins.....
