wow! it's black with a candy or pearl coat? Looks fantastic and it looks blue, lol. Good work.
|
Yup its just black base with two pearls sprayed over top in an intercoat clear. I wanted a aqua or turquoise color like what the car used to be only darker with more of candy look to it, to go with the lowrider/streetmachine themeI'm tryin to make work on this barge.

It looks great. Your making some good progress.

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/003-37.jpg sunday i managed to get the hydroboost plumbing and brake lines wrapped up, sprayed the door jambs and edged the fenders. i realllly like the color with the brown interior. tonight i mounted the fenders up, and after mocking up the engine one last time, i realized im gunna need a touch more clearance to make it over the victor jr intake and air cleaner yet. so i started cutting..... more action this weekend, let me know what you think! |
I can't wait to see the body in color.
|
keep on keepin on...
wrapping headers is a bitch. but i thought they would have a bit of an old school look to them, and i think they do. got the engine in for the last time, wrestled the transmission together thats all in together. finished the day off just putting some of the accessories together.

The air intake looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing the hood all primed up.

thanks wayne, im glad to see your camaro is moving along as well.

It looks great . I can't wait to see it out in the sun. Nice work.

Thanks Wayne. I found myself staring at it for most of the day. I can't wait to buff it and put the trim on.

Ahhh! Wheels make all the difference in the world huh! Just look at the pics with the old wheels.... WoW! Love the look man! Great job, and you can definetely paint!
Lead. |
That looks killer.
LOVE that paint. Nice job! |
somedays life gives you lemons, otherdays you get kicked in the cahones by an mma fighter....
today i started stripping the anodizing and polishing my trim, which went quite well. after lunch i thought id push the car out in the sun and snap a few pictures. no sooner did i get the car out in the sun than i realized my worst nightmares. the pearls are all cloudy down both sides of the car. if you look at the pictures where there are light and dark layers of different shades of primer, thats where all the pearls are goofy. apparently my sealer didnt work for me and the basecoats soaked or something. today felt like the worst day ever. on top of the paint being odd, well, i dont know what to do about a respray. i cant leave it how it is, its just not good enough for the work i put in. i dont have enough of the pearl to shoot it and the parts for the engine bay and interior pieces i wanna spray, and i doubt ill be able to mix it correctly since i didnt save the mix( because i mixed way more than should have been enough, even for a touch up, just not an overall touch up) so im starting to look at other color options. anybody know of any good teal/aqua colors? im strongly considering bermuda blue metallic like was on alot of tahoes, avalanches and chevy pickups. any suggestions id very much appreciate, im pretty much lost. |
Sorry to hear this happened . Do you think you could bring a small panel to a paint dealer or body shop and see if they can check it. Maybe you could spray what you have on the outside and have them mix some for the inside where the difference might not be obivous ? I don't know if I amagining it but don't they have a scanner that can match paint ?
|

well, most paint supply places have a scanner, but they scan and get the closest code that matches. since it was a custom mix, i doubt that theyll be able to get it close. i shouldve never mixed it the way i did but im young and dumb and now ive learned. an oem color wouldve been a smarter move from the start. |
Sorry about the paint Mitch. Good luck bud.
Keep us posted. |
well, right now i have the whole car sanded down, minus the jambs and such. gunna blow it apart tomorrow to do the jambs, maybe ill have it ready to paint again this weekend, at the latest, ill have it sprayed by the end of the month.
i made the mistake of trying to go a little too wild with mixing crazy paint, which is probably beyond my skill level, my painting environment, and on top of that, had a chemical problem. i try my best to push myself to turn everything out as best as i can and improve my skills all the time, but sometimes i bite off more than i can chew. thank you all for your support. |
We all need to learn, Sorry it had to be such a big lesson. You'll get it!
|
sorry bout the mess....but keep your head high! The only way to be 100% sure not to screw up is to just not try anything and just stay there, doing absolutely nothing!!!
Its not an error....its part of the learning curve. Love the build btw, Lead. |
Idea...go to some new car dealerships and find a color you like...
That paint should be more friendly to work with and easier to match...
Have you seen the Black Granite Metallic on the new malibu? It's pretty awesome!!! Don't give up...the car is going to be very nice.... |
well right now, the car is about halfway sanded down with 180. why so heavy? well, i had it scuffed down, started reshooting it in a similar factory color and about 4 coats in, the son of a bitch lifted on me. so i stopped spraying, let it all dry and now im gunna have it sanded down hard (back to perfect) reprimed and shoot in either straight black, or some kind of black metallic. the color i had picked covered absolutely terrible! i was almost through a whole gallon and it was barely covering, and then it lifted and i decided enough was enough.
im keeping in high spirits though. even though im behind my intended schedule i realized that the last three months of bodywork are still way ahead of schedule compared to alot of guys on here and other places that i hear the cars are in a bodyshop for a year or more. |
Hang in there Buddy.
|
im trying my best to hang in there but im kinda getting a case of the ass of sanding this beast all the time.
im still not sure on what i want to paint this thing anymore. straight black is too much maintenance i think driving in in farm country all the time. so im looking around for a color that will work well and contrast with the brown interior and shadown gray frame and engine. any ideas are a big help! |
Something in the Charcoal line? It would do well with the frame and is easy maintenance and goes with anything interior wise... You can break it up with a stripe of your kind and choice at anytime if you want later down the road too....
Just an idea. My hat is off to you for the perseverance (sp) my friend!!! And your way of seeing things is the good one! keep it up! Lead. |

finally something good to report!!!
i blocked the whole car down hard, started with 80, back up to 320 and reprimed. blocked it with 180, 320 and reprimed. blocked it 500, 800 this time wet and got her ready to shoot. picked a color out of the book called sterling gray metallic, a ford color. i was actually looking for something more pewter, (like this looked in the book) but im happy now. just reshot her tonight and im thrilled with the results. the temperature was perfect, the color layed amazing, its clean and the clear layed flat enough to read text in a magazine off the reflection. enough jibber jabber. sorry the photos arent the best just yet. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xseven/232.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xseven/233.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xseven/235.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xseven/236.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...xseven/237.jpg |
Glad to see you picked a color and had good luck with it.

now we're getting somewhere.... got the front end together and put her on the ground!
all the fasteners for the sheetmetal and some of the others are stainless and polished before being put on the car. blacked out the front of the rad support so i would have a cleaner silhouette behind the all polished grille( when i get done with that.) all the trim on the car is original stuff that i stripped the anodizing off with acid, sanded and polished back out. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/005-31.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/006-33.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/007-29.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/008-30.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/009-21.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/011-19.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ven/012-19.jpg http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...even/014-9.jpg let me know what you think guys! |
I think it looks great. Nice progress.
|
Nice firewall, car looks killer
|
Very nice. Good to see that you are making progress.
Is that ride height? Looks good. |
Quote:
ride height just untucks the front wheel, gives decent header clearance and i can actually turn without the wheels hitting the fenders. |
Car looks better then ever!
cant wait to see all the trim on. |
