I'm thinking that a "certain person" is going to finally have to change his signature line now that this info has gotten out in a public forum

He is going to have to change his signature line to, "have some tools...would someday like to be able to conquer internet addiction and get out there and use them."

Matt

Is there actually an IAA out there? "Internet Addictions Anonymous"

If not, maybe Greg can also write a guideline and 12 step process for those that are also addicted:rofl:

GregWeld 12-07-2010 08:10 PM

It helps your addiction -- and the amount of free time you spend on the internet if -- BIG IF -- you are:

Retired

Have multiple laptops all with wifi

Have lots of hired help to do the crap you used to have to do on your own <grin>

As I've learned in the REAL AA.... an addiction is only a problem - if it's a problem to "others" or you're harming yourself.

So far - the only harm I've done to myself is that my nuts sometimes get awfully warm with the laptop actually in my lap. :unibrow: And my wife is too busy to notice what the heck I'm doing.

There's only one reason to EVER set foot in Florida.... and that's when I hit the Ft Lauderdale boat show... and I don't mean the sail boat show either... we're talking BIG power here!

Dude -- I did a fireworks show down there once --- sunk up to my arse in mud and fire ants... it was HOT and HUMID.... and well... you get the picture.

The "picture?".... I live here.... I understand swamp just fine....

but I've never sunk up to my ass in mud...just means your tires weren't big enough.... and I even did a fireworks show down here once.... I bet your fireworks were bigger though. :wow:

Oh.. and I live about 1/4 mile from where they hold the REAL boat show. :unibrow:

GregWeld 12-07-2010 10:10 PM

Dude -- I love my fireworks! These are only 8" mortars... babies compared to the 10's and 12 inch guns we use in NYC.

http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...tchanddrop.jpg

A typical barge for NYC Macy's show is 4500 shells... in 2000 (the millennium) we had 13 barges! That was a big ass show!

JRouche 12-07-2010 10:21 PM

Hey cool!!! You weren't outed Greg. I kinda suspected you were the type to help a guy in need.

Cause really, whats the point in having tools that can make tools unless you have a purpose for them. Your own car(s) prolly only need so much. Really cool to find a person that could benny from the knowledge and a sweet shop.

Specially when it counts and you are stranded.

There are some car groups that have a registry of folks in the group that a guy thats traveling and gets into mechanical trouble can contact.

Its a nice idea. Kinda iffy if you dont know the person. But the one group I associate with is a small group. I dont even mind opening up my garage or house to them.

Its like if you are taking a trip and get some mechanical failure there is a person to call that knows the car and is willing to help out. Much better than getting towed into the local gas station.

I will make myself available to any of the guys in the group and we can fix just about anything, minus breaking down a tire off the rim. But I have a truck that can cart the tire and wheel to the local tire shop for that.

I like the idea of having contacts all around the country. Even if it means just a place to be able to swap out an alternator VS doing it in the parking lot of the auto parts store.

There is alot of comfort knowing you have some buds around the states that will help as much as they can. Even if it is only a place to park the car for a night so they can work on it in the morning.

And there is always a spare guest room available here for some much needed sleep (after we (or I) toss some suds and laugh about the break down). Morning will come and time to dive into the fix. And Im all about fixing. Kinda refreshing to see the idea isnt lost. JR

If anyone is a member of the NSRA, they have their Fellow Pages where people, that want to help out other stranded rodders, have their contact info listed so they can help others out

RECOVERY ROOM 12-08-2010 04:03 PM

I think something like the fellow pages would be good for this site and its people here, I have the NSRA one, Its good to have when traveling. Thats not a bad idea to start here. Done hijacking...back to GW greatness

Greg, was going to break the news to you when you arrived at the house--but I did in fact end up with a dreaded LS motor---and all the conversion issues that will accompany it. I'll call you this coming week---got a few other things to fill you in on.

I figured this thread would be 20 pages by now---people must be on vacation already for X-Mas or something.

Good decision!

I have been pushing an LS6 around the shed for 5 or 6 years now at least perhaps longer... When I mentioned this for the '32 - Steve just about convulsed... so can't use it there... Lovely Lillard turned me onto it for my '69 Camaro that I decided not to build and I just never have found a home for it.
Having driven the '55 Post build -- and most recently Jason's LS2 Buwicked - they ARE THE MOTOR. Period.

xplantdad 12-31-2010 06:16 AM

Since they haven't locked this thread yet:D

I will add my two cents as well...Greg is definitely one of the good guys.

 x100 to you my good man!

Bruce

So you are saying Steve is still in the Stone Age ? Doesn't he have the talent to make a LS engine look killer ? You should challenge him and lead him down the path to enlightenment... LOL

Smack_talker 12-31-2010 07:58 AM

sounds like Greg is like the other good and generous people i have met on this site. I hope to meet him in person one day. Way to Go!:hail:

Charley,

You might not remember but the LS6 motor is the one you turned me on to all those years ago via a phone call by you from the Purple Parrot @ Hot August Nights during breakfast! I still have the thing floating around.... Unused but not unloved.

They have the talent. They have used the Ford 4.6 liter in a couple projects.
Just haven't had the right project for a LS engine I guess.

LS motors are just all wrong in a '32 ford.. Unless the styling is all done "hi zoot". Which, to me, is all wrong as well.

I'm going to use the LS6 in my '37 3 window.... But with 8 stacks and hidden coils etc. I had the chassis for that project built for the LS already.

What, you couldn't talk Tony in to taking the LS off Your hands? :willy:

70rs 12-31-2010 01:27 PM

Greg is gaining legendary status here!! I have met the man. Seen the "shed" and all the tools he "can't" use.......;) .

I have to agree with the general opinion here. Greg is one of the real nice guys and always willing to help. I am glad to call him my friend.
Even if he is only 4' 6".:D

Have a great new years eve buddy!
