From the way this car was built I don't think it was a drag car. Though I think it had some used pieces borrowed from a drag car. The ride quality was rough but we were running the car too low and the suspension was bottoming out. Over the last few days we've put around 100 miles on the car breaking things in. The G-Link makes it feel like a whole new car. |

Small update.
Pulled the old manifold/carb and started mocking up the EFI setup. My old setup wouldn't allow an air filter to fit under the hood. I knew the EFI setup was shorter but still had my fingers crossed about it fitting. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8814.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8825.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8830.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8838.jpg It looked tight when I was eyeballing it. Closed the hood and snaked my arm up into the bay to snap some pics. It clears! Maybe 3/8" clearance but I'll take it. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9460.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9456.jpg Tomorrow I'll start playing with the wiring. I also need to finish planning the fuel supply and get some things on order. |
perfect! Looks great.
|
Very nice job .....It's come a long ways since you got it.....!
|
nice car love the stance and the color.
|
I wad up a bit of clay -- build a "mound" out of it -- close the hood - and then measure the flattened wad to see how much clearance I have... Got to allow for a bit o'torque over etc.
Glad to see that nice EFI set up on there! |
Man, she looks sweet under the hood. I'll still take a big block over a limp wristed ls engine anyday.
|
Very, Very nice Car...
Love the work you are doing.. Love that your wife wants to beat on it... |
Thanks guys! Yeah, this thing has come a long ways. Still quite a bit to do before spring. :willy:
Good idea Greg! I've got some silly putty around here somewhere that I'll try. Todd, when I started working under the hood cleaning things up I checked out payback more than a few times. It's kind of funny, when our first turd of a motor died I wanted to look into doing an LS swap. Beth said "that's just not right". I'm glad we went the way we did. If it's a dinosour then I think it's a T-frickn-Rex! :unibrow: |
It looks nice under there. I'm worried about the height of me air cleaner.
|
Love the engine bay. Looks great and good job with the set-up!

I'll measure the height of my setup next time I'm in the shop for you to referance against yours. When it was in the shop getting the rear repainted we had the shop trim the radius around the air cleaner under the hood. Our air cleaner had also clipped that radius with the old setup. Part of the hood inner structure had been hacked up by the previous owner so I didn't feel bad about doing a bit more. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8842.jpg I started playing with the wiring last night. I set it up on a table so I could wrap my head around how it all fits together. After plugging things in it started looking less complicated. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8849.jpg |
Cool Build Up - Subscribed !!!!!

I measured up our setup tonight. It's approx 8 3/8" from front lip of intake to top of throttle body. With the air cleaner on it's a hair shy of 11". The air cleaner has 1 1/4" drop base which barely hovers over the rails. We'll see if there's enough air flow this spring. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8857.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8856.jpg No real progress to show for the weekend. I've mostly been gathering parts for the fuel system. I'm also scratching my head on where/how to mount the ecm and route the harness. I'd like to keep things clean looking. |
Made a couple aluminum brackets yesterday. Slso started cleaning up some of the wiring and hoses in the engine bay and under the dash. I think I found a good spot to mount the ECM under dash. Hopefully will get to that part soon.

You've got some cool things that are being changed on the car and I'm liking the transformation. Good stuff.

Slowly picking away at it. Finally got up the nerve to cut a hole in the firewall. After locating where I wanted it I drilled just the 1/4" center hole first. Then I attached the hole saw and ran the bit backwards to cut through the paint/filler. Then slowly cut the 2" hole. It didn't go as bad as I feared it could.
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_8997.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9002.jpg I mounted the Holley HP ECU under the dash up where the original center speaker should go. I need to beef up the mounting a little bit and clean up the under dash wiring but think this location should work. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9003.jpg |
There ya go Ed!!
Nice job! |
With the birth of our first child (Jacob) last February and a busy year with work there has not been much Camaro time. Jacob came 6 weeks early and it’s been a wild ride ever since then. I'm glad to report everyone is doing well. It’s hard believing that he’s almost a year old.
The Camaro did not leave the garage in 2012. Definitely need to get it out this year. I’m taking some time off work at the end of the week to get a few to-dos checked off. Thought I’d post up a couple older pics to get myself psyched up. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9177.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9170.jpg The last thing I did was get the Rick’s tank mounted. I plan to work on the fuel lines and tank venting this week. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_9618.jpg If all goes well I will be posting up some updates on Sunday. |
Congrats Ed, the introduction of a kid to first time parents is definitely a game plan changer! I remember my wife's Superwoman transformation well. :)
Make some headway on the car before the second kid arrives! :D |
Sounds like 2012 was a good year none the less. I hope 2013 is even better!
|
Please let us know how you like the holley efi. doing a ls1 s10 and really thinking about going with it for the self learn

Ed Congratulation's on your son, glad everyone is well. I'll be watching for your updates.

Whatever you do, do not round the corners on that bracket. Apple will sue you for it:mock: |

Update time. Spent half of Thursday and the majority of Friday working on the car.
Started by laying out the bulk of the parts left to install and typed up a list of “needed to run” items to prioritize my work. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_0252.jpg I spent most of my time laying out the fuel system. Got the front/return lines ran to the regulator. The return line will also flow thru a cooler I mounted in front of the radiator. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_0253.jpg For the feed side I struggled with what to do with the y-block. I ended up making a little bracket that re-uses one of the holes from the previous coil installation. I may move it lower so the lines hug the top of the valve cover. I need to figure out where to mount the MSD box and coil so I can finish routing the feed line. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_0265.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_0276.jpg http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_0273.jpg After the fuel lines are done I will focus on the electrical system again. Need to get power to the Holley ECM, fuel pump relay, & Vintage Air unit. Then it’s on to a few exhaust updates before changing fluids and pre-fire inspection. |
Painted our MSD box with a black rattle can kitchen appliance enamel. Seems like a nice durable finish. I roughed up the factory red with a scotch bright pad before painting. After the black dried I hit the high spots with a palm sander to bring them back down to aluminum. Time to clean it up and get it mounted.
http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_1461.jpg Been trying to reuse or cover up old holes in our smoothed firewall. Found that a 2.125" billet fuel filter bracket works great for a coil mount. Even the holes matched up to the old chrome bracket. I also did a little trimming to clean up the MSD mounting bracket. http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/IMG_1466.jpg Chris Robinson's Major Havoc build thread has given me some good ideas for finishing our fuel system. Now that spring is here I need to take time off work again to wrap up this project. |
sure is looking good under that hood, great job so far
|
Looking really good Ed. Great job.

Had a little time this afternoon so I got the MSD box mounted to it's bracket and then to the firewall. I also played around with options for my fuel supply and made a shopping list for fittings needed to finalize it. I originally had the regulator mounted off the intake behind the pulleys. I don't like where the return line runs in this setup so I'm going to reverse things and borrow Chris's idea on where to mount the regulator. This will work better with the cooler I'm mounting in front of the radiator as well.
