I thought you had a black trailer and hated the color?
|
Quote:
There is only ONE color -- and that's BLACK. I hate that it gets dirty maybe -- but I don't hate the color! |
I distinctly remember you complaining about keeping it clean and the fact that it became an oven when the outside temp was warm/hot.....
If history is any prediction, you'll get it in black now.....and get all the bells and whistles...and 6 months from now, you'll re-do the whole thing anyway :) |
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I hate to admit it but it's so true.
Yes the black is an oven --- but the LQ part has A/C... and I don't hang out in the back except to unload the car. Never been in a trailer when it's 90* outside whether it's white or black - that wasn't an oven. As old and out of shape as I am - I'm sweating right now just thinking about it! BTW -- I'm actually trying to avoid making a 6 figure mistake here.... Nothing worse than committing to something like this and then doing the "repeat after me.... you are a dumbazz" over and over in your head. Thus the reason I thought I'd toss this out there and try to learn first. |

Have you considered a Haulmark motorcoach pulling a regular size car trailer or stacker. More versatile.
|
Don't get the coin flooring! I have it in mine and it's a pain in the arse to clean and keep looking nice. I have the outside halogen flood lights and I think I've used them once in 4 years. I would also suggest an air compressor and plumbed for air lines front and rear, I use mine more than I ever thought I would, it makes it easy for checking tire pressures and using an impact to change flats. I also have an in floor spare tire comparment that is nice for storing your spare tire out of the way.
|
Reverse lights are also nice on the outside corners

No --- And the only reason I say that is because I don't want to have to have a special rig. I want to keep my pick up or possibly a larger pick up but I don't want a dedicated rig for this. My primary reason for liv qtrs is just to stop on the road to and from somewhere -- I have ZERO intention of actually spending a week in this. It's a night here and there. So to have a big motor or toterhome is not what I want to do. 71RS I have that in my current trailer... I store chains and a spare portable winch. After having one blow out on I-10 out of Palm Springs - and having to back the car up so I could access the spare -- FT!! It's a TRAILER not my living room! I mounted the spare on a mount back by the rear door up high - that way I can just grab it with no unstrapping the car etc. I have an air compressor already. And yes - I wouldn't be without it. And yes - agree with the side lights - I've used mine ONE TIME. But that one time - was totally kool and useful. They're for pro racer dudes that are out there constantly and working on their stuff. Hot rodder just trailer from place to place so we use our trailers quite differently. I also have an all aluminum race jack in a pit pal holder.... used it TWICE - but man was it handy. It's one of those -- "better to have it and not need it - than need it and not have it" kind of things. I also carry 3 ton jackstands. They fit in the tire pit. Most useful handy magical thing ever in the trailer -- a jacking ramp thing I bought at a trailer store never thinking I'd ever use it. If a tire is flat - say the rear - you pull the good one up on the ramp and the flat is off the ground instantly. SUPER EASY! OMG! My flat was on the front so just backed the good rear one on this ramp and bingo bango -- changed and done! pull forward and store the plastic "ramp". :woot: Tracy Yes! I added halogen backing lights in the rear - and up the middle of the trailer. Having been caught once on a dark rainy night - dead tired - and having to back my BLACK trailer (24' Motortrac 4000) up 200' and then around a corner with brick walls on both sides.... I'M TOTALLY A FAN OF BIG BACKUP LIGHTS! My Ford has the "upfitter switches" --- which are relayed... totally perfect for that kind of stuff! I have four of them -- so the CB and the Texas Star is on one (30 amp relay) -- back up lights on the truck on one - and have two left for trailer backing lights. I also have 20 - count 'em - 20 - side marker lights.... Optional - and on the order already! EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA This f'n thing - should I decide to pull the trigger - will look like a light show rolling down the road! DUDE! <spicoli style> LOL |

You're about the third person to say DON'T on the coin floor. So I'm thinking about just asking them to leave the "box" plywood - painted/sealed.... and maybe having the floor done in bed liner? Or maybe just leaving it plain and painted. My current trailer has polished diamond plate --- talk about a waste of money and slippery! One drop of coolant or fluid - and you're going to the hospital with a broken hip!:willy: |

I wonder what is the perfect flooring solution? If it's rough, it's impossible to clean. If it's smooth and it gets even a little damp, you bust azz. I bet most are unhappy whichever way they went.

BEST THING EVER --- the BANKS system -- with the brake controller! WOW does that thing work slick! Lift your foot and bam! She goes into compression mode (of course it's not compression but that's what it feels like). So for schitz and giggles -- I came down a long grade - and switched from the trailer mode in the truck (factory option) to the BANKS version... and back and forth. OMG! The factory version -- I'm just picking up speed man.... like a runaway.... switch to the Banks - BAM! The POS hauls right down and just stays there - and I never touched the brakes. Not sure how it works - but it sure works! |
Damn Greg....
Hey, has anyone steered you away from black yet ? I know black is beautiful but, "light" is right. I know how hot my 28ft white trailer gets in the summer, I can only imagine a black one. I know you'll have ac but its just a thought. ps... can i be your friend ? |
Quote:
NO   :woot: I know you're absolutely right on "white/light"... but I just can't pull the trigger unless my stuff looks "custom" and "badass" even if it means pain and suffering! I get so many calls on the CB saying how killer my rig looks rollin'.... and I have to like it myself or I'm just not happy. I fully understand my sickness and have surrendered to it! :D |
PS:
I really just want to be a "baller" like Kenny and Rodger... and if I got white - Charley would think I copied him. :D |
How about black sides with a white roof, with good roof vents.
|
Does the tailgate have to be swapped out with one that has the lower section in the middle?

I'm bet a little research would find something pretty reasonable and maybe even kinda trick to vent heat via solar operated fan. You have enough sqft on the roof that you could run AC on solar...
Heck - they are putting flexible solar panels in back packs nowadays. |
Quote:
LOL No roof penetrations for me. I live in the land of rain and the heat just isn't an issue nearly as much as something that pokes a hole in a roof. Good suggestion though! |

Might want to look in to that if you go thru CA often. |

Speaking of tree huggers...I actually read about a "kalifornia" proposal making certain dark colored cars illegal since it "decreased" fuel economy due to the AC working harder.....holy helllll! |
Hey Greg I just saw this buddy..... Call me on the cell or we'll talk down at Barrett next week because I can share a few little things with you there buddy....

Well I think Greg has found his car hauler with living quarters.
He emailed me this picture to post it up. I think he did a good job. Just not sure how reliable it is, it seems like he bought it slightly used. |
What's the over all length limit for Cali and other States? I remember my cousin telling me that Cali is 60' max? He has a motorhome and 26' race trailer for his Drag Boat and was telling me he is too long for Cali...but goes down there a couple times a year anyways...so far no problems...but it's always in the back of his mind when he goes down there for races!
|
Greg, Frank has a 42' (I believe) trailer (black!)...I would think he would have some good insight after crossing the country a couple few times with it!
|
Can I be first in line to buy it for 10 cents on the dollar when you decide it is too big ?
|
It may be one of your options but I would get a third axle, and get brakes on all the axles not just two.
The other thing is get e track (thats what we call it) along the front and some of the sides, nice to strap tool boxes or whatever to the sides or front. Make sure the gas tank filler for the gen is not in a hard place to get and on the driver side, and that when filling its got a nice flow to it. Flush lights on the side are nice then when you look in your rear view you dont see lights at night as far as lights just make sure you can get to them have had some traielrs in the past were it would take a hour to change the bulb We also use the goodyear G rated tire and steel wheels, and have two spares. The tires are great and you have to use a wheel that can handle 100+ psi I also see that people are talking about a big truck, NO we have a FL 70 and a F450 and the 450 is just so much simpler and you can actually drive it around. But if you wan to buy a FL70 toter home and 44 footer then I got one for you! |
What about a driver side exit door?
|
What are you hauling just show car? I dont think the living 1/4's are needed unless you are racing or going to stay in it at shows etc.
|
He has a '32 and '37 that he wants to haul around...not sure if the '56 will be in the mix as well?
|
Well don't ask me how but the legal limit is 65 ft. We were 64'10".
And if my trailer was a 2 axle I would not need a non commercial CDL. With the triple 7k axles it puts the trailer over the GVWR and requires me to have an A class license. And legally I'm supposed to have a CDL to just drive my F-450 down the highway. Apparently Jerry Brown is looking to me to pull California out of this budget crisis single handedly.  |
Greg,
I can guarantee you wont go wrong with ATC. I personally own 3 of there all aluminum trailers, smallest being a custom fitted 16' I opt to use on the job sites as my office once the first scratch/bent fender got on it, lol, a 24 and 26' Although mine are not gooseneck type the "fit and finish" is the best Ive ever had out of multiple brands over the years. Plus there not to far away so I was able to buy direct. Ive always heard good things about Renegade too but I never see them being pulled out here in the midwest. Bare in mind though if you have to replace a fender skirt it will set u back almost 500 per side (dont let others back up your trailers:mad:) ATC- look at the cost of there cabinets and accessories. They are priced much lower than others if you decide to upgrade your package down the line. Have you checked out there Silver series ? the way they do the bottom corners are sweet and the paint schemes will definitely put you in as a "baller" like Rodger HA |

A baller like yourself needs to showoff that fancy interior. Clearview ATC trailer? Not sure about the water closet though!
