Rodger also has a (ROCKET & JET ENGINE) options for his chassis.I think we will see Tyler B. Running some of these at 2011 Optima shoot out.

Awesome!

We will be posting the results when the analysis is complete. Eric said he has to design the chassis as one single parts, not an assembly to be able to analysis the chassis. The one single part will take quite a bit of work just to create that design. I will keep you posted

Some more pictures of the chassis before we begin TIG welding this chassis.

The Welding will begin this week. We will probably weigh the chassis bare also. I'm sure it's heavier then stock but that is probably a good thing.

I use CATIA. If you use Boolean operations its actually pretty easy to make it one part. If you have complete product, looks like you do, and all pieces are contacting eachother; just put each part in a seperate part body under one part and use the add (boolean operations). It will combine the parts into one solid eliminating any over lap and combine parts at each point they have contact.

T_Raven 02-23-2011 10:32 AM

That frame is sweet. I'd hate to be the poor sucker welding it together though lol. I need to get rich so I can stick on under my Tempest

tones2SS 02-23-2011 04:50 PM

Awesome work Rodger and crew.

RECOVERY ROOM 02-23-2011 09:35 PM

Just wondering why the side rails have a angle on the top portion of the frame when other frames don't.Will it make the frame fit different to the car. I'm not even being a smart a$$ with that question :D

It's because it's the same width as a factory frame for these cars, and the floor boards drop down between the frame necessitating the angle. The factory convertible frames (boxed) have that angle too.

Bill is correct it will fit the body better, which in this case allows the rails to not hang below the chassis as much. But with the way these rails are assembled it makes them stronger then just a piece formed to that shape. Because the body mounts have been boxed from top to bottom thus creating a whole triangulated structure. Then with the round tubes running completely through the rails and into the inner frame section it ties those pieces together using the whole mass of each rail not just the inside surface. The draw back to this design is the mount of welding, but since we have taken advantage of some trick press braking techniques it will cut down the weld time considerably.

Alot more to come in the near future.

ProTouring442 02-24-2011 09:07 AM

Now if I could just win the lottery or have someone leave me a nice pile of money so I can buy one of these frames!

That frame looks bad azz just sitting on the table, I don't think you even need a car on top of it.

Price check on bare chassis, welded front with un-weld kit rear frame rails please?

I can't sell that chassis half welded. If it's welded it has to be done all at one time to control heat and warpage.

mfain 03-15-2011 08:19 AM

I looked at the chassis at the Scottsdale Goodguys last weekend -- it is truly a work of art!

How many hours does it take a professional welder to weld one of these up?

Don

This first one was about 115 hours for welding and sanding. We did a bunch of work to get the hour cut down even before we cut a single piece on the laser. I have been charging 100 hours for welding and sanding these frames up to now for the frames we have sold. These Chevelle frames have alot of interlocking parts and formed pieces that really cut down on what it could be, if it was all flat plate. Obviously the chevelle chassis is much more complex then the Tri-5 unit. These first 2 frames are all ready sold. We are currently changing the design on some small parts and getting ready to build 5 more.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'm really happy with the results, wait till you see the ride height.:D

Awesome frame:thumbsup: PLEASE post pics with a 65' body on it :D

No problem. I was just emailing the pics to the customer.

That is killer!!!!

1965_SS 03-16-2011 12:51 PM

:wow: That is awesome!!!

Couple of questions.

What do you have to do as far as the trunk metal is concerned? Stock, mini tubs, or more?

Do you have to use a custom gas tank or can you use stock?

Does the frame hang down lower than stock, seems like it does in the pictures? Why is that? Just wondering.

What shows are you going to be at here in CA?

Thanks and keep posting pics:thumbsup:
We all like close up detail pics of how everything fits.

ironworks 03-16-2011 12:59 PM

I'm trying to get a stock replacement fuel tank from Rick's Hot rods in place as we speak. We are triming the floor mods that have to happen to clear the Trans and driveshaft due to the low stance.

There will be a frame at The Pleasanton show next weekend and one at Del Mar the following weekend. Then Again in Pleasanton in August. You location in the top right says Central Valley, so You welcome to come by anytime just let me know when.

This wagon is more like an Elcamino chassis wise then a standard Chevelle. So some things are different. I will be taking some pics from underneath when I can get it on the lift. We need to build headers and exhaust for this 572 big block. We have started to build the chassis for a standard 67 Chevelle with an LS for another customer.

That sits very nice, Nothing hanging down to

64pontiac 03-23-2011 08:10 PM

As always, amazing! That is a killer stance if that is just on coilovers!

ironworks 03-24-2011 06:48 AM

Yes this car is on coilovers with 4.5" of ground clearance. We are working on changing just a few small things to the design before we cut out the next round of frames. We are getting ready to get a frame under the standard chevelles here in the next few weeks.

I also bought a the most solid rust free car I may have ever seen that happens to be a 69 Chevelle to get rolling on the 2nd gen chassis stuff. We also have a few things that we are working on to raise the bar even further in the Chevelle market.

64pontiac 03-24-2011 06:57 AM

Raise the bar FURTHER? When is enough enough!!!!! Joking aside, stellar work. Hopefully you can grow the chassis sales into other models and makes, you guys have a very unique frame style.

That is the plan. We figure everyone like frame strength, low ride height with usable ground clearance and the ability to have amazing results with a laid out process to get those results. We are doing extensive engineering and design work to create the most strength in the smallest area. Take our frame rails they are not the easiest to build, but there is no question the strength built into those parts and still keep the frame tucked as tightly to the body as possible. One of the design changes I spoke of was and idea Kenny Davis sparked that may make the rail even stronger and not hang below the rocker at all........It will be even more difficult to build, but I think the trade off is worth it.
