Awesome, awesome, awesome. I love the build man. I had a pro street 79 a few years ago that i never finished and sold and i have regretted it ever since. Im currently looking for a clean one to start a serious build on. Thanks for the inspiration.

Tuske427 07-29-2012 08:44 PM

This is a Great looking project, Go Pro Touring Pontiac's!!

Fitz78ta 03-02-2013 09:24 AM

wow, it has been a while since I updated this. thanks for bringing it back to the top!

I got the car home and worked on the interior panels since I had to build a headliner and rear interior panels due to the cage and minitub's. Also mocked up the Anvil carbon rear parts while I waited for a buddy of mine to make room for it to get the body work done. It has been at his house for the last few months and the body work is getting close to being done (works on it after hours). The shell will go back to 417 motorsports to get the door bars and upper subframe bars then back home to start assembling it.

Here are a few pics since the last time I posted:

Fitz78ta 06-20-2013 06:26 PM

Thanks guys!

Car has been stuck in body shop jail, so still waiting to get the shell back.
Car is looking really good, but I did add a few things to the list as well.
Supposed to get it back in a week or so.

TurboBu 06-28-2013 04:53 AM

Do we all need to message Lance someway and tell him to hurry up?

LOL, no. I actually went to look at it last night, supposed to pick it up next Friday. The passenger side rear part of the quarter had some issues that have been kicking his butt. Also due to that the wing isn't playing nice either.

Fitz78ta 11-01-2013 09:51 AM

Well getting closer to being able to start assembling this thing for the final time.

Got the car back from the body guy and put the mock up motor back in the car. Car goes back up to 417 Motorsports next week for the rest of the cage to be finished. Then time to get the car jammed and the firewall painted so I can finally start assembling this thing! Here are a few updated pics.

I am with you - this is going to be a cool car.

WSSix 11-02-2013 10:27 AM

Glad to hear it's moving along. Can't wait to see this thing finished and moving on its own.

Beebe 11-30-2013 11:02 PM

Any updates? Interested to see more killer work!

417 Motorsports 12-01-2013 08:05 AM

It's back with me now for some more bars and a little fab work before final tear down, paint, and reassembly

Blake

Jr 12-01-2013 09:34 AM

Who built the manifolds for the low mount turbos? Blake? Can we please get more pics...?

417 Motorsports 12-01-2013 10:27 AM

They are a modified truck manifold, I'll get you some more pics in the mor of when I get to the shop

Blake

550orm5 12-09-2014 07:07 PM

What happened to this car???

Fitz78ta 12-10-2014 05:50 AM

Oh I still have it. I am now on my 3rd body guy and so far he is working out well. He is making some good progress so far, plus going back over some things. We are getting all the gaps set now then we will get it torn apart and he will get the fenders and bumper covers stripped and reworked for final mock up. The plan is to have the car painted by spring, then hopefully progress will pick up getting it assembled.

I know I am the only one on here that has had to swap body shops a few times to get the car done, right? LOL. Very frustrating, didn't expect this car to take this long when I started, but I know I'm not the first on that either. Plus all the 'added features' that have been added along the way :D

Here is how the car is currently setting.

http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/a...psn9bfipyt.jpg

Here is how tall the entire car is, I love this! Measured through the shifter hole.

http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/a...pswecqhct3.jpg

I was going to run the Year One fender flares, but decided to flush mount and lower the stock 78 flares instead. Here is the rear one that is pretty much done. I'm really liking it so far. (they do actually sit against the body, just didn't have them bolted down for the pictures)

Coming along nicely! I like what you did with the stock door handle. Do you plan to paint it or just leave it brushed like that?

As much as I love the way they look brushed, they won't go with the theme of the car, so they will get painted....

Stovebolter 12-16-2014 08:39 PM

Hey Blake, sweet project!

Gscherer78ta 02-20-2015 09:18 AM

Great Project! I love the look you have and the stance is killer! I have a 78 as well and I had to raise my rear end up after it was stitting not quite as low as yours but I had issues with rubbing, even after rolling the fender lip. I'm curious how you resolved this issue?

The car has Detroit Speed minitub kit, plus the fender lip was cut off and metal rod was welded in. We did this due to the previous owner doing a bad job at "cutting and bending" the inner lip up. The wheel sits far enough in that it shouldn't have any problems rubbing.

Truth be known I am sure the car will come up a little bit, it is just sitting on solid bars where the shocks mount.

ONEBAD78TA 02-20-2015 02:10 PM

It looks like our cars will be pretty similar,,,,how much hp are you shooting for?

Fitz78ta 02-20-2015 03:06 PM

The motor made 755 rwhp with eBay turbos on 14psi in my 98 TA. With the precision 62's I am thinking it will make 8xx pretty easy.

ONEBAD78TA 02-20-2015 05:01 PM

Wow ,,,that's more than mine,,,that will be a handful for sure :drive: it seems like most guys are only making 450/550 I'm thinking they don't need any more because it's too much on an auto cross course, mine made 655hp/670 tq,,I figure that will be fine for cruising around town and the occasional trip to a race track to beat up on a few of my friends:warning: :gitrdun:It sure seems like the 2nd gen birds are turning into the car to build huh,,,,I'm loving it since I've had my car for ever,,and it's been through a few different transformations over the years

Fitz78ta 02-20-2015 05:24 PM

That's the great thing about turbos, run around on the street with 500 hp, flip a switch and go drag race with 800.

YAMATHUMP 02-20-2015 07:18 PM

Killer car, cant wait to see the final result.
Very fond of the 2nd gen TA.

Firebirdsteve 02-20-2015 07:28 PM

Nice work!
Looking forward to more progress on this...

I'm rather partial to 2nd gen TA's myself!

CHAZMO1986 11-30-2016 07:10 PM

The Stance is spot on :) Blake and the guys at 417 do good work, sweet car man!!

payne 12-02-2016 06:43 PM

Is the car running yet? If so, any pictures?

Love it!

Fitz78ta 12-02-2016 06:59 PM

Unfortunately it isn't running. Been having a hard time with body and paint. One of these days it will be done....
