Agreed...very cool pic.

Does Mark have his own showroom in the Tech center? He should...:D

Finally got some time to sit down and really dig into it last night. It's a must have, IMO. Very, very detailed, and very well illustrated.

It reminded me of how much I really enjoyed building my car. Maybe I should sell it and start another. :D

Scott, we should all sell our cars and start new project's.That alone could solve the bad economy.

Who else handles it ?

GregWeld 03-10-2011 03:41 PM

Yeah -- I just searched all over SD site and can't find it.... Guess you MUST call them to order.

Why doesn't LAT G offer this for sale?

Mark S. 03-11-2011 08:37 AM

Got mine yesterday and still reading it at work today. Only wish it was available as a digital copy too. Thanks for sharing/publishing all this great info.

Croaker 03-12-2011 02:17 PM

No shipping estimate was given by SDPC but I ordered it anyways. Turns out it's a $50 book w/ standard USPS shipping to Canada. Hope it's a good book. ;)

I didn't have a shipping estimate, but it was a pretty quick turn around time. It showed up much faster than I had expected.

Mine was $8.75 shipping to Norcal. Got here in 4 days. I just got started on it last night. Great stuff so far. Love the LONG detailed captions that accompany all pictures. And there are nice overviews of each of his previous builds I enjoyed reading. Was hoping it would include some of that.

Mark,

Yesterday, I had a fair amount of time to read your new book. Having been a fan of your work through the years, so buying the book was only natural.

The book is fantastic! Better yet, the time taken to detail your build philosophy, eye for detail, and discipline to sensibility has made your book a real tool. I am sure many have mentioned to you before, your work makes a difference and raises the bar for build quality. Your engineering backround IMO, is what sets your work apart from others.

I have had the opportunity to view a couple of your cars throught the years. Not as close as I would liked (Charley would probably think I am a stalker) but enough to confirm I really enjoy your work.

The negative of your book? I am tearing back into my 59 Bel Air to do the work the way it should be done, not as I have completed it to this point. Looks like Power Tour for the 59 will have to wait until next year.

Best Regards & Happy Easter,

Tim

I'm glad you like the book, it was fun to do. But I think my folks liked it better because they asked me to send them a box to give out to their friends.

To everyone, thanks for the kind words. It was great to get the book finished!

Thanks Mark!!!

As Mark and I were wrapping up the deal on the raw material for his next project car, he was kind enough to send me a copy.

This book is a great read and it is packed with great tips and advice, it has so much more "depth" to it than many automotive books, and Mark takes the time to explain the reasoning behind many of the things done during the course of his projects.

You can really appreciate the tremendous amount of work it took on the part of Mark and Will, to put this book together.

Anyway, thanks again Mark, for the copy of the book and for taking the time to write it! (and signing it was just too cool!)

Mark and dear Lat-G community:

I'm not shooting to offend anyone or anything like that, if my question is misunderstood let me know but, what's so special about the mule? Is it some kind of first timer? Since I got here I've read a lot comments having the mule as a reference, or pictures of (as I have read in other posts) ''the mule in all its glory'', so, what is it that makes the mule so special? Anyway, Mark, congratulations on such build, and good luck on selling the book.

I don't know about you, but how many twin turbo 69 camaros do you know of?----but no; seriously, Mark's builds are in a category all by themselves.
He is a class act. Everything is engineered to perfection with each build being better than the previous. He pushes the envelope; and therefore,
pushes all of us to be better also. He is top notch! Do some research and learn....:lateral:

John

PS--Also, if you buy his book, that will tell you detail by detail what makes Mule very special.

It's a fair question if you weren't 'in the know' on The Mule -- note the capitals since it's the NAME of the car...

The Mule is a 1041 hp - twin turbo - with all the niceties of A/C etc... At the time it was built it was way ahead of many - and as usual for Mister Stielows builds - it does "as advertised"... on top of being a show car - it performed. It's been in every magazine - it's been in ads - it's been tracked - it's done Power Tour - it's done - well... you get the picture.

There were many many cars started because of this car - and cars like it - Think Red Witch etc. Personally - I built a 427 SBC with 8 stacks (what the Mule had before being TT'd) because that motor was so killer... it inspired me to do something 'like it'.

By todays standards - it might not be that kool (too me it still is!) but at the time -- it was - and still is SUPER KOOL IMHO.

well said Greg. It's my all-time "dream car". Looks great, tons of power, extremely well engineered. Drives great, won't overheat even on a road course, and is a ball at the track.

coolwelder62 06-10-2011 04:47 PM

In 2001 I was deeply involed in Motorcycle racing w/my 3 son's and had kinda put the car hobby on the back burner.I had built a few cobra kit car's before my kids came along. But when I saw the Pop.Hotrod mag w/mule build I was hooked agian.Because of the mule I went out and found a 1969 camaro and started building my very own mule clone, silver and all. Then I sold that silver 69 and started building the next PT camaro. And so on and so on.So is the Mule a big deal,Yes it is to me.I am still trying to build something that come's close to the mule. With every car I build I can only hope that what I am building will toe the mark.So Thank you Mark for inspiring me to build a great car.:hail: :hail: Scott Mock.

Sorry for I've sinned, I hope the Mule forgives me for offending its great name (she, he, or it?), and now I think I understand why is it such a car, and yeah, I'm aware that Stielow has THE touch for his machines, anyway, it is awesome for what I've read so far, and I wouldn't expect any less from the guy who build a LS9 'Maro...

I just order one off of SDPC yesterday. I would of much rather ordered through LG

No sin! It was a good legit question. It's just old enough now that many folks wouldn't be familiar with it. No different than if I asked my 25 year old about the Stone, Woods & Cook Willys that capture my heart as a model building teen. He wouldn't ever understand... And I'm certain there are cars that you will never forget many years from now.

Now that I wouldn't believe, I'm 19 and even I'm familiar with such a car as the Stone, Woods Cook blue Ford WillYs gasser from those old glory days, but in such a big/kinda new movement that is the Pro-Touring it works in some different way, anyway, cars like the Mule (notice the capital letter), Ban Penny or the Sunoco Camaro and other great builds are always gonna be a symbol of what we work on and also part of the motivation to be better builders and achieve greater wuality in the builds.

Ad:

please go to my new POTM contest thread in the Art and collectives section!

Greg: fixed my sin and I hope God and 'ye old Willys forgive me for what I've done.

I just got the book and I was paging through it, looks very good.
I am in the unique position of not having a Camaro (or even a Chevrolet), so I was concerned that there would not be much relevant information.
Initial impression is that there seems to be a ton of good information no matter what your building.
