I tell ya this sure makes it fun when a car has never had any rust!! Even the floor pans are rust free! Don't see many cars in Virginia like this. This one came from San Diego. Pretty sure this one has never left California til about a year and a half ago. Being from Virginia I have seen a lot of crusty cars and until about 4 years ago I have never experienced what it was like to own a true rust free classic. Bought a stock 67 RS Camaro Arizona car and turned it into a protouring ride. It was a pleasure working on it. Probably won't buy another rust bucket.;)

Just started sanding and polishing the turbo piping. Going from 80 grit to 800 grit takes a while but it sure is worth it!

ivmotor 10-23-2011 07:31 AM

excellent project!

Good question. Meaning?

Trackman 12-04-2011 07:06 AM

Just curious if there was anything new to report.

Sorry Trackman I wasn't sure what you meant. :) Here are a couple of shots of the new radiator cover panel and the support closeout panels that Hamilton Enterprises made and did a great job. It will be painted black to match the radiator support. Also in the picture are the Comp Turbo turbo blankets.

I think that Camaro is taking up to much space in your garage. You should sell it to me!
Not the first time I have been misunderstood....

Rick Giles 12-06-2011 05:13 AM

It will be going up for sale pretty soon. It's a nice all original sheetmetal with no rust ever convertible. Let me know if you are really interested.

Trackman 12-06-2011 06:17 AM

I didn't realize it was a vert. I got enough of them!

Looks like it has a set of High Jackers in the back. Can ya say 1980!

Trackman 12-11-2011 07:54 PM

Looks awesome. Is it running? Can't wait till your bored of it!

Rick Giles 12-12-2011 03:54 AM

Probably won't be running till spring. Going to take it off the frame and paint and detail the undercarriage. We are now mocking up all the wiring, computer, fuel system and everything under the hood before it comes off the frame. This is going to be a very hard one to get rid of!:)

Man it sure is nice not to lay on my old back anymore to work on a project! Do yourself a favor and be smarter than me and get one sooner than later!

Now in the process of a full detail. Will be pulling the body off the frame and getting the frame powdercoated satin black. Also painting the bottom side of the body and detailing under the hood.

camcojb 02-25-2012 06:59 PM

well, not sure I did you any favors. :D With all you ended up changing it may not have been the right choice. But I felt it could be finished easily and a decent deal at the time.

The good thing is it will be a great car when you're done with it.

waynieZ 02-26-2012 09:59 AM

It looks great..

KPC67 02-26-2012 11:11 AM

I know it's been months since there has been an update...here she is. Couldn't take it anymore and had to take her off the frame.

It took a whole roll of 80 grit d/a, roloc discs, and a hammer and chisel to clean her up. There was absolutely NO rust anywhere! She was powder coated with gloss black then cleared twice! Looks like a black onyx!

coolwelder62 09-30-2012 03:08 PM

I said it over on PT.com and I will repeat myself over here. This is outstanding. Can't wait to see it finished.

Rick Giles 10-01-2012 06:53 PM

Thanks Coolwelder!!! Working on it just about everyday for a couple hours at a time. Sure takes a long time to get anything done.

Rick

What an awesome project. I can't wait to see it back on the ground.

What are your plans for the suspension ?

Rick Giles 10-18-2012 09:18 AM

Thanks! Talk about an awesome truck, are you still the proud owner/builder and now driving it all over town? Bet you it's a blast to drive! What do or did you like best, building or driving it or both? I have 2 1/2 years building the Chevelle and probably won't be done until next spring.

I'm installing a complete DSE Speed Kit 3. Can't wait to see how it handles and drives.

Thanks for the compliments on the Truck. There were a ton of people involved in the build of that beast. High Speed Welding, Comp Fab, Recovery Room Interios & most important was Kenny Davis Hot Rods.

I started the project in my garage like you and then hauled it to Comp Fab where every Thursday and Saturday I worked on it. Then when it came back home I worked on it again and they sent it to Kenny Davis Hot Rods. I can't say enough good things about Kenny, Kenny Sr and Travis they are the one's that actualy finished the truck. Kenny hauled it to Sema 2010 and it sold couldn't pass up the Money plus I want to start another project with a back seat because I now had 2 little girls that I love taking with me every where.

So I left Vegas in a 2010 SLP 575 Camaro and drove it to Chicago. It's the perfect car to take to local cruise nights with my girls.

I also started a 70 Camaro project that I have involved my kids and the neighbor kids in. I figure if i can get them into Cars and Mountain Biking it may keep them away from drugs and other bad things. The 70 has been a blast to work on and once again I have handed it off to Kenny and the guys at Kenny Davis Hot Rods. We were going to debut it at Sema this year but I had a little medical problem that I need to care of first. So the new plan it to debut it in March at the World of Wheel in Chicago.

okay sorry for the thread hi-jack on my reply.

Rick Giles 10-18-2012 09:41 AM

Wow! Sounds like you have had some great experiences due to your hard work and are truly blessed! I have a girl and a boy (7 & 5) and can't wait to take them to the cruise-ins.

I have no intention of selling the Chevelle but I guess that's what they all say. Maybe someone will make a crazy offer and she will have to go?:D

Wish you the best with you and your project!
