goodguys des moines

Well we made it through the weekend with no major problems at des moines good guys autocross. Trent and his crew put together an awesome course and i think it was probably the biggest and fastest gg autocross ive ever ran and i had a lot of fun...this course was actually big enough it wouldnt have hurt to have a little more power to pull the straights a little harder. We had to do a little tuning to get the car to turn in....with the new rear suspension we realized it had way to much front sway bar and not enough rear bar. So luckily kyle tucker was nice enough to help us swap out the front bar at lunch friday and it really helped the car transition and turn in. After the changes my times started to pick up and ended up good enough for third. I think im going to put an adjustable rear sway bar in the car and maybe go to an even lighter front bar and see what that does. But all in all it was a good weekend and had alot of fun with everyone and looking forward to getting to the next event.

Good to hear you had such good results right out of the box Kevin. I know you have not had a bunch of time to dial in the car since the suspension changes. That says alot about your skills behind the wheel. Nice work!

Never underestimate the grandma. Mine used to have us kids flying around the back seat of her old Torino hauling a** everywhere she drove us. She used to scare the hell out of us.

millertime179 07-19-2011 07:31 PM

well i got to take my camaro to the heidts performance car challenge this weekend and had a blast and got to meet alot of nice people and see some killer cars. unfortunately our weekend was cut short when we spun a rod bearing on the road course on saturday. The track was a ton of fun and this was the first road course i have had the car on and it was feeling really good till the motor let go. thanks to my good friend albert for letting me wheel his firebird the rest of the day and still had a great time hanging out with everyone. Also had a blast with the karbon kustoms karting enduro where myself, mike from optima, and greg from ridetech finished a lap ahead of second place. lol it was a riot! All in all it was a great weekend and had a ton of fun despite killing a motor. hoping to have another motor in the car in the next couple weeks.

Saw the car at the Heidt's facility on Friday afternoon, looks sweet. Was hoping you kick some butt on the autocross. Sorry to here about the motor, you going to build something with more power or just repair the one thats in the car?

Jr 07-20-2011 08:46 AM

Kevin,

What size motor are you planning on throwing in there?

millertime179 07-20-2011 07:47 PM

I havent decided for sure what im gonna do yet. Its probably either gonna be a stock LS2 or try to find an LS6. Wish i had the funds to put some real power in the car but dont quite have the budget for that right now. Big power is really all the car is lacking to run with the top guys on the road course...but for now im just gonna do what i can with what i have and get the thing back together and running.

thanks
kevin miller

Jr 07-20-2011 07:49 PM

You can't go wrong with an ls6 or ls2.

71RS/SS396 07-21-2011 02:16 AM

You really need to buy a good oil pan that is baffled better than the stock pans or you're going to kill the next engine on road the course.

Bow Tie 67 07-21-2011 05:30 AM

LS6 is the better choice as far as oil control / drain back for track events. I'm using an autokraft pan on my car and it works great.

Who builds the best oil pan for these LS motor's.I have been told the Canton pan's are the best. Scott Mock.

Scott, Give Kurt at AutoKraft a call I've seen his oil pans and they are the cats as_! 715-874-5921

AutoKraft is the same as Canton. The new Mast one has good baffling although I don't know that it's superior to the Canton one. One to avoid is the new holley as it has zero baffling.

www.daileyengineering.com

Beware....open your checkbook wider. They just released there newer version for LS7 right/left drive.

itsals1 07-22-2011 04:25 PM

I believe Rupp is installing a new AutoKraft oil pan in Bad Penny, if you have any doubts that it won't hold up for track use!

coolwelder62 07-22-2011 04:45 PM

The oil pan need to clear the rearsteer Unisteer Camaro Rack&Pinion Kevin has installed on his chassis.I have looked at the autokraft pan but have not had the time to call Autokraft yet.

ma73z 08-19-2011 07:23 PM

millertime179 08-19-2011 09:29 PM

hey thanks tom i appreciate it bud. It was good to finally get a win in my car after being so close for so long. And yeah special thanks to scott for helping me get the new rear bar built late friday night to take the understeer out of the car. It made all the difference and was way easier to drive on saturday. Also congrats to kyle tucker on the vendor win....the sunday shootout between kyle and i was cool and turned out very close but unfortunately i fell short by .050...also want to thank james shipka for letting me wheel OLC. Pretty cool car and had a blast driving it:thumbsup:

Vegas69 09-04-2011 10:05 PM

Getting within .050 of Tucker is no easy task. He wheels that thing every other weekend and has a staff of engineers. Damn good driving and your car must be balanced. What rear spring rate and shock are you running?

hey thanks, friday the car had a little understeer so we went with a bigger rear bar and it really helped the car transition and turn in. It was alot easier on saturday and sunday to get the car to do what i wanted it to and was able to pick up the pace enough to get the win.

wiedemab 09-05-2011 04:03 PM

Nice work. The GG autoX competition is getting pretty serious.......

Jtomas801 09-25-2011 08:20 PM

How much travel does the rear coilovers have, and what is the thickness of the bump stop?

Thanks,
Jon
