Amazing pics Todd! Id love to see the street rod pictures! maybe make a separate post of them and leave all the pro touring pics in this thread?

Thanks again!

toddshotrods 07-11-2011 12:43 PM

Again, my pleasure guys! I wish I had taken more. I should have been snapping away like crazy at everything good, but I was too busy enjoying the atmosphere. There were some awesome cars here this year, but it was the whole scene that really got me. It's like getting sucked into your TV into a Disney movie where hot rods rule the Earth! I posted on my FB page (from the event) that I must have died, because I was in Heaven! :hail:

Todd,

Do you happen to know the following:

1. What won Street Rod of the Year?

2. What Builders were represented in SROY?

3. Did Goodguys do anything there regarding the late Barry Lobeck?

Thanks. Spent a lot of time with Barry over the years in the Marriot Parking Lot!!!

A yellow Ford coupe, I think it was a 32. Honestly, I don't get how it won. Not to take anything away from anyone's hard work, but there were a couple other coupes there that.... Just my worthless opinion though.

Sorry, I wasn't really paying attention to the SROY field, even though it's more my cup of tea. I know one of them (that I would have picked for the winner or the next runner-up) was built by Johnson's Hot Rod Shop. The other one was a black and green coupe. I don't know who the builder was. IIRC, the Hupp car I have pics of in the other thread was in the Top 5. Can't recall the last one?

He was remembered. I heard his name a couple/few times mentioned and credited for his contributions to the hobby/industry. Not sure if there was anything specific or tangible done in his memory.

Thanks, glad you liked them. Where did you see a pic of the yellow 32? Also, you said "one of the Johnson cars", was there more than one JHR car in the Top 5, or in the SROY field? The black JHR 32 I took pictures of was there last year, and back again this year, but I don't think it was entered in the SROY contest. There was a nice coupe that they said was built at JHR, during the SROY/SMOY awards ceremony.

Here's the SROY winner, and Innovator (SMOY). Still looking for pics of the SROY Top 5.

I cant remember where i saw the yellow 32 pics. Johnson build 2 32's recently One was a dark green 3w and the other was black 5w. I heard they were both there?

I'm a little fuzzy on this, so I could be wrong, but I think the black one was in the Top 5 - not sure about the green one? Anyone remember? There was also a black and (very dark) green 3 or 5 window in the Top 5, that I liked. I was sure either it or the (blk?) JHR car was going to win. They just seemed to be a cut above the rest (IMHO). I can remember their positions in the line-up (inside the building) and even hear some of the interviews in my head, but can't really picture any of the cars clearly. The SMOY Top 5, on the other hand, is burned in my memory - cars, line-up, colors, builders (except the gold Stang?), etc. That's weird for me, because I typically do the exact opposite (street rods stick, street machines fade). I can remember the winners of SMOY for the past three years, but very few of the Top 5's (without looking at my pics). That's not taking anything away from the builders and the other cars, because I remember there were some awesome cars - just not really my cup of tea in my old age.

You can see the build pictures for this years SROY on
http://www.fastlanerodshop.com/

You can appreciated perhaps why it won when you see some of the build pics.

Thia is the 3rd SROY for Dave. That;s a tremendous accomplishment! I don't think anybody else can say that. He builds some great cars.
