Time for some details.

Glovebox
So we decided a while back to take 2 glove boxes and ditch the speaker grille in the middle and make the glove box go all the way across. Plus we thought when chromed it would pop. We we got the glove box roughed in an Steel, then sent the glove box and speaker grille cover to our own Lat-g super hero, Bob Braga.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ept2011033.jpg

Bob digitally scanned the parts and then made the outside face perfectly flat while keeping the fit of the parts we sent him intacked. We then sent that Solidworks file to my machine shop. I kid you not, 1 week later we had these in our hands to fit before chrome.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/CIMG3782.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...k/CIMG3785.jpg

Then we fit them them to the truck before chrome.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ept2011105.jpg

Here we are yesterday, holding up the chromed speaker grille cover. We are waiting for the glove box still.

The hood emblem

Well we decided there was no way the stock emblem was going to still fit the hood on this truck. So we took the stock emblem mounted it to the hood and then used bondo to fit it properly to the hood. Notice how the stock emblem did not even have the "R" in the center of the emblem. That right would have drove me crazy.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...ept2011125.jpg

We did the same thing by sending the part to Bob again. And 1 week later I'm sitting here at the shop wait for UPS with a Saturday delivery.

This piece in Chrome will be mind blowing.

Thanks for the work Rodger. Can't wait to see this truck at SEMA.
Parts were sent to me. I laser scanned them and then reverse engineered the part in CAD. Made some custom changes that Roger wanted to add. Sent the files to his machine shop.
I can't believe he machined this stuff so fast for you. Hurry up and fit it to the hood I want to see how it fits.

ironworks 10-08-2011 09:48 AM

Well the door handles look stock. But they are not. The 48 had twist down door handles. We changed it to the push button 1954 models. But since we are using Modern Gm latches, we needed an electric handle. So we took these stock handles, found a switches to fit inside machined a new push button to that was shorter. So now the stock handles are electric. They can be turned off and on with the ISIS system. No need for locking mechanism. But the interior handle is still mechanical.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...Oct2011014.jpg

Here is what a lengthened door that is done to look stock would look like. This door has been sectioned 1.75", it has been lengthened 3", and the top was chopped 1.5". it took 4 doors to be able to make each door and have all the factory seams line up to look OEM.

It's not here for Saturday delivery from UPS and the truck is being assembled 2 hours from the shop. We will fit them on Monday.

Wow. That emblem is insane!

I stopped by on Friday afternoon. It's looking great. If I can I'll come by later this coming week to tune the controller after you guys order a part to check fuel pressure (they know which part.)

GregWeld 10-08-2011 06:31 PM

Hey Bob! See what those little Weld emblems started!! LOL

This truck is just super cool....

BTW --- I would have warped those doors so badly that it would have taken 4 more of them just to get it to where they only needed a half inch of bondo!

EEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAA

ironworks 10-08-2011 09:29 PM

Thanks guys. I'm really happy with the results. Frank has let pull out all the stops on his OL pickup.

BBC69Camaro 10-08-2011 09:51 PM

Wow, just amazing work :hail:

pacificustoms 10-09-2011 11:16 AM

That thing would look killer with an updated modern style artillery wheel with a large center cap!

That hood emblem is soo much cooler then a stock one!

Awesome build and style! I love this little truck!

bonecrrusher 10-09-2011 11:26 AM

The CNC machine work is a work of art there.... awesome!

We already talked about that. Not enough time for SEMA. But either that or 19" smoothies with dog dish caps. The customer gets back in town on the 17th. So we will discuss.

I would like to see the install of the ISIS system, I realy like that system and trying to get as much info on installs.

Well there is not much to see really. Just wires. But the master cell can be controlled with a key fob like a car alarm. But when you lock the car it can roll up the windows and ignore any inputs. So the door handles would be dead giving you the same affect as a locked door. The ISIS is just a system that can be custom built for your application and allows a new way of thinking.

That's one nice truck. Roger I'm sure its great when you have a customer that lets you do what you like to do best and not keep your hands tide. Very nice job!

I'm thinking Good Guys truck of the year.

This customer has been a dream to work with and has quite a few other cars for us to do. Someday we will get to his baby. A 1941 Chevy coupe he has owned since 1954.

Brad P. 10-13-2011 08:02 AM

Nice Truck!!

War 10-13-2011 08:09 AM

I can't wait to go pick up this golden hood emblem. I might have to sneak a peek.

ironworks 10-13-2011 08:19 AM

They should have that done, but I know they will have the glove box and bed strips.

ironworks 10-16-2011 07:47 PM

Well Things should go together pretty quickly now. It goes to Ron Mangus on Wednesday.

Beautiful truck!

ironworks 10-26-2011 12:01 PM

Well Guys these pics are about a week old. This was from the first time in 2 months the customer had seen the truck with his wife. He was very pleased to say the least.

That's all custom made from Billet and Chromed at Sherm's. As much as it looks stock it is very far from the original.

EBMC 10-26-2011 12:19 PM

Very classy, well thought out build! The subtle touches are very impressive.

That looks awesome. I bet the owner loved it. That color is amazing.
Great job.

ironworks 10-28-2011 06:38 AM

Late last night the truck was picked up from Ron Mangus and hauled back to the bat cave to install the final details on the truck. Here is a sneek peak at how it is shaping up. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, but something is better then nothing.
