I am pretty sure that not many first generation Camaro owners running 19’s or 20’s are big performers on the track unless the suspension was engineered around that tire and wheel package. I agree with Payton that a pot hole will be an enemy especially when the rim will take the hit because the suspension is bottomed out. I do however like the look of a well stanced camaro with a 19's. I really guess to have to weigh what you want to do to the car, and ask what you are willing to live with.

Do what? Why would the suspension be bottom out? Have you seen Project EmptyNest? I have never seen a subframe car that has a lower ride / race height? Yes it has custom front inner wheelwells to clear the 295 front tires, but that has nothing to do with the rear. Project Payback runs those tires, the stance is killer? Pot holes? There is more sidewall on a 19" 345 the a 18 inch 335.

As for not performing on 19s..............................

I should have made it clear that I was talking about the back of the car. To answer your question yes, I have seen empty nest. I also noticed it is an air bag car. When you put the car down at shows is that the ride height that it is going down the road? My point was to get the car down in the back with 19’s there is more that adjusting the coilovers on your four link and patting yourself on the back. I have seen, ridden in, and worked on cars with a 19 set up in the back with coilovers, guys put a four link in, minitub the car, and spin the adjusters down to get the ride height and are forced to go up a bit to have good travel. I know for a fact when you put the rim lip under the wheel well opening with 19’s there just isn’t that much suspension travel (coil over set up low ride height) The interference comes with the wheel well and the tire, shock travel, bla bla bla Frank you know what I mean. I also said that if you build the car set up around that size tire and wheel then cool. If the tire touches or something else interferes with travel going around a corner then you loose stability around a corner. You increase the chances of that with 19’s without a properly engineered first gen to accommodate that size tire. Most people don’t, so they don’t perform at the track. This has nothing to do with the ability of the tire itself.

I have mine just a hair above the rim level and never bottomed out and doesn't rub. Just recently started playing with shock adjustments and took a little of the cushion out for a flatter ride. Makes the car in my opinion.:D That being said you better nail you backspacing because it's tight. I wouldn't run 19's on a race car either. This is a pro touring site last time I checked.:D

Wow this is an old post

I am running 19's in the back of mine right now and the height is 26.5 with a 285/35/19 tire. Pulled a set of 255/40/18 off of a 68 camaro just the other day and that tire/wheel was taller than my set up. I like running my car low but I ran out of clearance from the axle tube and frame rail before I had problems in the wheel well.

Now my wife has an M3 convet with 19's and 30 profile tires....talk about no sidewall. Looks cool on her car, but I can't believe she has not bent a rim yet.

How big?

OK, here's my two cents... I thought the whole reason we went to 16's, then 17's & 18's was for the purpose of clearing the new bigger brakes.
I know most are now going at least 13" diameter or even up to 14" brakes.
Why the need for 20's or even bigger(?).
IMO, rubberbands on a muscle car just don't look right... but I understand, different strokes for different folks.

There, I feel better now. :D

I think 19 's look way better on the back of a 69 camaro. 18's for the back of67/68's.

20's

Yup, 20's look terrible on the back of a 69'

345/45-18? What brand/ model tire is that? Tire Rack shows no tires in that size. I could likely use a pair of those if they are not gumballs.

Haven't found anyone offering a 345/45/18. Here's the closest thing I found.

A 19x12 has the option of running a 315, 325, 335, 345, or 355 tire.

An 18x12 really only has two options, a 315 or 335.
