Seemed to me that the guy that started this thread was innocently asking what people did for a living. I didn't take any offense to that. Apparently there are a lot of sensitive people on here. If you don't want to say, then don't. I don't see the need to get upset about it. If you're so offended by the question, go to another post. Relax. BTW, I'm much closer to the lower end of that poll as i am a union worker.

he didn't ask what people did for a living. He asked how much money they made.

You may be right, you may be wrong. It sparked due to some of the other posts I've seen lately on multiple websites and in magazine letters. Whether it's his motivation or not, I felt it was relevant to this website and hope those with negative attitudes will take it somewhere else. We don't care what you have or what you are building. Share your knowledge, bring it out to an event and tear it up. That's where you'll gain respect and friends.

By the way, I hadn't listened to the Corolla interview BEFORE I made my post.

Vince@Meanstreets 12-04-2011 12:34 AM

as a small business owner I can ask.....

this is bs, i can't find the - (negative) amount....

The first thing the OP did was make an ASSumption. That set the tone for the whole thread.

"It seems to me that there are alot of "wealthy" people on Lat-G."

I'm still waiting for his explanation of wealth.

I'm a regular blue collar, hourly wage earner just like the vast majority of the members of this site. I'm on-call for 3,300 hours per year beyond the 2,000 hours a year I work (24/7, every other week). I apply my skill set to do side jobs to help offset costs of car parts.

Jealousy will always drive those that are unwilling to work hard and can't be self motivated.

CamaroBill 12-04-2011 08:24 AM

I think this poll brings to light the fact that our hobby brings together people with a common love for cars. It doesn't matter if you work overtime and bust your ass to put together a home built street car or write a check to fill your garage with pro built dream cars. Not sure you can say the same for too many other hobbies. Build it, buy it, drive it, race it or show it....whatever makes you happy!

I want to know the range of wealth on lat g.

You do not have to comment so that you can remain anonymous, just take the poll.

If you would like let us know what you do for a living.

Seems like most are taking this a bit personal and this guy pushed some buttons that pissed a few off. I dont take questions like this personally especially from people I dont know and I cant comment on what type of person this OP is because I dont know him/her. Is the OP a jealous person? Who knows. My assumption is that the OP is still a young grasshopper if you will.

To the OP: Its none of your business and not tactful to ask what other people make and what they do for a living especially when you dont know them.

To assume people have alot of money just by looking at the cars on this particular site was wrong. There are alot of folks here that spend countless years building their dream car. Within those years freinds are made. You trade favors, help each other out, and if you are an honest, hard working person, and continue this cycle reaching your goals will be easier and very rewarding.

Remember, yes the destination in this hobby is rewarding, but it's the journey that makes it fun.

Sure, the op is guilty of being , uh, less than tactful. But to go off and be indignant about what some see as just an innocent inquiry, well, I'm just saying give the guy a break.

camcojb 12-04-2011 11:33 AM

at this point it looks like $80K or so is the mid point income wise. It's close to a 50-50 split between those above and those below that income.

orangevert 12-04-2011 12:02 PM

I made my 1st mil selling my body to female super models, then 2nd to mil?
Lol.

I started with a $15.k 67 camaro and spent $ on it for 10 yrs, Sold it an bought my 69 camaro, and a bunch of parts. Now it's piece by piece. I think a lot of guys on here are the same way. Start with a budget then, its gets a lot slower.

LUACE 12-04-2011 12:31 PM

I bet the results would be different if the poll was 'household' income rather than individual. In my case my wife makes 2x the amount i do. I would not be able to have my toys with out her. Fortunately she supports me 100% percent and encourages me to continue with my hobbies.

That's assuming that everyone is checking the correct box. I for one didn't. I really don't care what anyone here makes or doesn't make. I'm still waiting to see if OP will let us in on WHY he's interested in this info. Kind of doubt it though. Pretty sure he's ducking for cover at this point.

I'm a male prostitute to my wife, pay is decent and I only have to work once a month if that. Those Super Models are too high maintenance IMO. :D

Musclerodz 12-04-2011 02:22 PM

If I was wealthy I sure would not be playing with somebody else's expendable income.

Shmoov69 12-04-2011 03:18 PM

There's alot of Responses to the poll for as many people that got pissy about the question here!! He said it as nicely as he could've IMO, he put it in a poll so nobody would be associated with the answers.

As a small business owner, to ask "how much" should be associated to the hours worked!! Less than minimum wage if you figure it by the hour!!! LOL!:willy:

I personally have no problem with the direction of this thread. I understand the feelings here, asking someone what they make is considered rude normally. However, this is a message board, it's anonymous, and not face to face, so it's quite different.

If you want to reply you can, if not.............. don't. I don't think the original poster was trying to make it into an envy thing, but it could be interpreted that way.

bigtime 12-04-2011 05:04 PM

I have my own business. soooooooo according to the general consensus i am a millionaire.....does that count?

That sentiment is certainly always true on this website that's for sure.... There's lots and lots of friends here.... We bust each others balls if at all possible... we share our dreams... we share our time... we share our love of all things automotive...we share when we have newborns... or when our pets pass...

I've never asked anyone if they have a house - a car - or food to eat... And I try the best I can to help with issues or skills or tools knowledge... or parts or whatever. It's never occurred to me to ask ahead of time if they're wealthy OR not.... I don't give a shizzel...

It seems to me that this thread is not for everyone. If someone does not like it then you do not have to participate. I personally like it. I am curious to know the income range of folks with the same interest as me... simple curiosity, thats all. Maybe that's all the OP has as well... The thread is anonymous... i don't think its intended to be negative or to harm anyone's reputation.

I know people with money. Lots of money, but they never talk about money, you know what they talk about, friends, family, what everyone else is doing, and cars mostly.

Pilot as well here... I didnt see the box "might as well do it for love/the odd food scrap" either lol. Cracks me up how people assume airline pilots must earn mega $$$. It's about waking up in the morning and looking forward to your day.

Income and wealth are two entirely different things. Its not about how much you earn, it's how much you keep. Personally dunno why you would ask, or for that matter care if someone else did.

Coursey 12-05-2011 02:46 AM

Sorry to all of those that i offended by creating this thread. I seen it going in a differnent direction.

I honestly could care less what people make. I asked that mearly out of curiosity to see what the average income of the pro-touring community is. I did not mean it as a personal question. That is why i was tring to keep it annonymous.

I was hoping that the thread would have went more in the direction of disscussing what we all do for a living. Me personally, I am a Vice President of a commercial roofing company. Thats all i was looking for. I did not want to know what you did for a living and how much money you make at that occupation.

Sorry to all the trouble I caused and to all I have offended.

(sorry also if i mis-spell words, i cant get my spell check to work.)

No need to apologize, at least those are my thoughts. I notice there are 73 posts on this thread but over 135 people responded to the survey. Obviously you did not offend everyone. Some people knew it was just a simple question out of curiousity. Anyway, hope it doesn't keep you from coming back to this site. It is a great site and you can learn a lot and meet some pretty cool people. For what it is worth, I am a disability retired police officer and I am at the very lower end of your pay scale.

I was curious and I'm not afraid to admit it, unlike several others. I mean not on a personal level. I'm saying from a car standpoint, because I do get curious about what a guy does for a living when he buys a $35k NRE engine and finishes with a $400k car like a Ring Brothers build or the owner of the InNOVAtor that just won SMOTY. That doesn't mean that I'm so darn nosey that I want to know down to the exact dollar amount he makes and what he pays in taxes. I just assume a guy doesn't have a normal job or income when he builds a car on that level...that's all. Just curious to know in general if he's a doctor, lawyer, biochemist, etc. For that matter we all know what it takes to build a car. Hell, it takes years on normal salaries. Therefore, to build a $400k car in a year, a guy more than likely has a nice job. No more to it than that. Gollee guys c'mon!!

What even irks me more is...and this is just my opinion, is that if one of the more popular, bigger named guys on this site (and we all know who they are)would have thought of this many would have said nothing or at least kept their comments to themselves. But, a lesser known guy and newer member like the OP started it and he gets jumped.

ccracin 12-05-2011 09:20 AM

I think the question could also be, who in the PT community could have been millionaires if it weren't for the PT community! :P

True that everyone will view the question differently and I understand that. The one thing I really like about our group is that income has never been a factor when it comes to enjoying our mutual addiction/love of cars. The question was intended to be harmless, but what will others think? I for one always try to look out for rabbit holes and it concerns me that if people (lurkers) get the impression that the majority in our group make more than the average that scams and rip offs will increase. We've seen enough of those.

Its nice that here on LG we are all equal.
