First off you do killer work and I enjoy following your builds. I wish I had the talent to produce cars of this caliber. :hail:

Second, is that a 4th gen Nova in the background of picture 6? If so I would love some info on it. Please....... ! I am building one right now and looking for ideas on body mods, well mostly what to do with the bumpers that are the sizes of Texas!

Thanks

T.J.

Well I guess the cat is out of the bag. Yes I bought a 1976 Nova. Ironworks is building a hobby stock for the Bakersfield Speedway. I wanted to buy this exact car a few weeks ago, but I waited to long. I just could not get over the MIG welded rollcage and just descent fabrication, I need something a bit nicer.

My only plan is to drive the wheels off it at my local dirt track every Saturday night. I'm getting ready to build a 360 horse "Stock" small block, Gut everything out of the car, build a rollcage, install a 9" floater, with a Hughes Powerglide and go have some fun.

Holy Sh*t nice job!! Maybe I'll see at Oildale, we run with CDCRA dwarfs

Thenovaguy 05-17-2012 05:58 PM

Sorry for letting the cat out! Man I got all excited thinking it was getting the pro touring treatment :willy: Either way it's nice to see people using these cars. They don't get any love. You think they would just do to the fact that they are Cheap but the lack of aftermarket parts doesn't help.

Keep us posted on the progress. O and drive it like ya stole it!

I have the rear transaxle mount to redesign and relocate, I need to build the actual upper control arms and change the layout of the front lower control arm crossmember for the improved rack design. I had an idea for a lower brace to go under the exhaust that will be pretty bitchin.

Project Slow motion continues.

:wow: That is going to be a pretty nice chassis. :wow:
Looks like the 3 years of patience will pay off. Is that an LS9 he's runnin?

What's that sled on Intros in the background?

Darrell 05-18-2012 08:03 PM

Nope,it's an LSA,baby bro to the LS9,556 HP right out of the crate, can't wait to fire it up

Very nice. The caddy motor right?

What did Chevy do to get 580hp out of that mill for the 2012 Camaro?

67 nova tube chassis

Should have posted this sooner,Rodger took my chassis to the LA Roadster Show and WOW this thing got a lot of attention.it was cool to watch people check it out, chassis looks bad azz, just want to put a seat on it and a steering wheel then go auto cross it.Car is coming along slowly but the main thing is we are making progress,we have a few more things to do to the chassis and then on to the body, have some cool ideas for the hood,as I'm writing this Rodger is on his way to Columbus with the chassis, wish I was going, want to say thanks to Rodger and the crew for all the great work, keep it up,thanks guys,I'm stoked(:D )how this is turning out:thumbsup:

ironworks 09-28-2012 03:06 PM

Figured I was a little late on the update for this project. But we have started on a custom hood idea Darrell had been dreaming about in slow motion.

Here is what we started with. Stock 2" cowl hood. It just was not doing for Darrel or I.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...Secret/002.jpg

Then we brought in the 70 Chevelle project we are doing for Fairway Chevrolet in Las Vegas. Darrell was looking at the Chevelle parked next to it and thought man that hood would look awesome on this car. At first I thought Darrell was crazy, which he is....LOL.....LOL. But after some discussion about what it would take to actually pull this off well. It was decide to order a stock 70 Chevelle hood and cut it up. It was decided that it would be pretty cool to extend the hood all the way back to the windshield for a more modern car look and plus it would help with some or proportions we were not fully digging. So once we set the hood on this is what we have.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...12-2012004.jpg

Of course the nose is really long but I did not link how far back the cowl bulge was. So knew shortening the nose would be a huge benefit. So we trimmed the nose off and built up the nose from poster board and painted it black.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...26-2012013.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...26-2012011.jpg

We then decided that the first step up on the hood was too thick and needed to be thinned up. which would take some of the big nose look at the front of the car. Plus we were worried the modified Ring Brother hinges for the 67 nova would possibly allow the hood to hit the windshield when opening the hood. That's probably not good. So we moved the bolts back in the under hood structure and gave it a shot.

Amazingly enough it didn't. But we will be reshaping the front of the doors and the back of the fender to have shape more like a 1st gen Camaro or Chevelle. So we are progressing on SLOWLY.

WSSix 09-28-2012 04:14 PM

I think it's a good idea and will really cause people to stop and look at the car to figure it out.

waynieZ 09-28-2012 06:33 PM

I agree it should look good.

windycitychev 09-28-2012 06:46 PM

Real nice build and the concept behind the build always possible to build your dream car even if it's piece by piece

Ricochet 09-28-2012 08:09 PM

How close are the gaps side to side? The Chevelle looks so much wider than a Nova. Amazing it fits as good as it does out of the box. Will look slick without the cowl. Similar to the Pro Max Venom Nova's. Makes them them look much sleeker! Nice work!

ironworks 09-29-2012 10:19 AM

Thanks Guys. All the credit goes to Darrell it was his idea. I kinda thought he was crazy at first. But as the first rule of business goes the customer is always right. Its starting to grow on me.

LOL :D :D :D :D

We worked on a bunch of ideas last week for front end mods. Moving the headlights up in with new billet bezels, making a grille that is similar to the new camaro, installing some Rigid Industries LED lights in the bumper for fog and turn signals. Plus we are working on some motorcycle mirrors for the outside.

ironworks 11-12-2012 08:32 AM

Here is where we are at with the hood on Project SLOW MOTION. It has been quite a bit of work, probably more then I would have guessed, but it is coming together nicely.

Now time to build custom headlight and grille surrounds.

Wow!!! That's just Frickin Bad A##.OUTSTANDING.

Vince@Meanstreets 11-12-2012 02:00 PM

love it, hood is 70 chevelle-ish. gives the otherwise boxy nova some curves.

Vince@Meanstreets 11-12-2012 02:02 PM

duhhhh sorry, missed page 6. lol

Darrell 11-14-2012 05:50 PM

Henry, hood looks like its full of muscle, clean and mean, can't wait to see it,be up next week, lookin more and more like a1967 ZL1 NOVA:hail: :hail:
Thanks guys

ironworks 01-08-2013 04:49 PM

Time for some kind of update on Darrell's nova. The hood looks awesome and is coming together nicely. We decided that the car needs some kind of spoiler on the rear to match. But we decided we needed to move the face of the trunk lid forward so it did not look so flat like you just backed into a brick wall.

http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...pse23ae4d2.jpg
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...psa962f977.jpg

Then we started working on some kind of spoiler, Not too big and not to hang over the taillights. I think we might lower it just a bit more and then figure out how to get things to flow between the taillights.

ironworks 01-08-2013 04:59 PM

Here is a rough sketch we have been working off to get an idea for the grille.

Not quite there yet, but it is getting close. I hate license plate opening and exterior mirrors, but we have found some awesome mirrors with LED blinker in them. Now I just need to finish the bumper without a license plate recess.

As always Rodger AWESOME.

S Griffin 01-08-2013 06:45 PM

Man, I love the look of that front end. I have been working on a nova in the same body style. I just came accross this and was blown away. Very cool stuff on this build. I am also putting corvette running gear under the one I am doing. My chassis design is similar to the way you did yours. As far as it being a drop out piece with the running gear. You guys do some very cool stuff!!!! I am also doing a lot of body mods as well. Including doing the hood back to windshield. I thought I was doing something "different". LOL

As the old saying goes. Apparently great minds think alike.

Post up pics I would love to check it out.

Musclerodz 01-08-2013 07:14 PM

If you build that grill and headlight buckets so they fit a stock front end, I would be very interested if you decide to do a run on them. Very cool design.

waynieZ 01-08-2013 07:53 PM

Very Nice! Awesome job.
