i can't believe you powder coated those valve covers. :P

You can still tell they are machined from a huge chunk of billet aluminum....if you turn them over:D I got the same reaction when people found out I painted the aluminum block and aluminum heads.

Yeah, I know the feeling Greg and good progress it is. The manifold is sweet. I also like the front end shots of the control arms. What computer are you going to use for fuel management?

We started to make some templates and lay out the initial set up for the cantilever shocks mounts, also started to mock up the exhaust system.

Well we finished mocking up the chassis at about 10PM. Loaded it on the trailer for the 7 hour trip to Good-Guys Del Mar. There is still alot left to do but it looks presentable for the show.

Por-15 is one of my sponsors, so for obvious reasons I used their engine kit on the block and the heads. All of the accessories that are not annodized are powder coated matte black. All of my powder coating is done by Maas Brothers in Livermore CA. Here is a link for the Por-15.

garickman 03-29-2012 01:19 PM

Manifold conversion is complete. I will be making a custom air cleaner for it once the engine is in its final resting place.

Here is a couple of pictures of the engine mock up, we are in the process of making motor mounts. The engine has been set back about two inches and dropped down a little more than an inch.

What are the small blue pieces on the muffler brackets? I've never seen something like that.

High temp silicone grommets. The purpose of these is to issolate the exhasut system from the frame. Here is the description from the stainless works website.

" Are your exhaust grommets melting?? Blue "Snapper" Grommets-High Temp Silicone-these hold up better and are have the best heat resistance that we have found!!! Designed to fit around a strap with a 5/8" through hole, and use a 3/8" through bolt. 1 1/8" od, 7/8" thick. Works great for isolating exhaust vibration from mounting bolts when attached exhaust system to hangers and frame."

MattO 04-23-2012 03:35 AM

Very cool

I'm 'local' and need to come see this thing for myself when I get time :hail:

garickman 04-27-2012 03:15 PM

I wasn't really feelin' the old transmission mount so I cut it out and made a new one with a driveshaft loop included. I designed it to look similar to the motor mounts.

Hotrod1 04-27-2012 03:25 PM

Thats pretty. How did you deal with the nut end of the tubing so the thing screws together (frame to the crossmember)? Did you weld a plate across the tube with a nut on the inside? Does not look like any welding happened there. I would like to see more pics of the crossmember not in the frame.

When I go to the shop next week, I will get a few more pics for you. The small end pieces of the transmission mount which go around the exhaust rings on each side are solid 1 5/8" which have been drilled and tapped to accept a 1/2" bolt. The tubing that runs parrallel to the frame rails has a 1" insert which has been drilled to to pass the 1/2" bolt through. It has also been countersunk to hide the socket head. The actual transmission mount is split in half so the bottom half can be removed first, then the exhaust can be dropped down then the transmission mount can be removed.

Looking good Greg!!  I like the driveshaft loop. Real slick looking!!:wow: :wow:
