Is that a GM crate w/a Procharger added? What is the EFI set up? |

We have been making great progress on the metal work on this truck as well.
Before: large dent in the lower section and the tail light surround was distorted and rolled in from a collision: http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture220886.jpg After: like it never even happened. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221430.jpg |
We are just about finished with the passenger side quarter panel as well. Here are a few shots along the way showing the progress.
We started by making a set of dies for the Pullmax to duplicate the lower bead in the suburban body line. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221714.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221717.jpg We then created the main panel section to replace the rotted out areas. here is it test fit over the existing rust. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221530.jpg A rear section was then shapped to form the leading edge of the wheel opening. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221547.jpg Once the fitment was finalized, the two new panels were welded togetehr to create a single panel. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221600.jpg |
The rotted out section was then cut off the truck to reveal a nice foam inner quarter. I think this thing would have easily float with all the foam that we found inside!
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221672.jpg The original panel next to the new panel. The new panel has the rear section of the original wheel opening attached to it. The center wheel opening portion of the new panel was lengthened to accommodate for the stretch in the wheel opening that we did on the other side of the truck. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221682.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221685.jpg The new panel being welded in place. We should have it all metal finished out early Monday. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221700.jpg |
Nice work! You guys make it look so easy.
 Dan |
Wow. You guys kick arse and take names huh. You must have an army of fabricators to get that much done on so many projects at the same time.
Can't wait to see more. |
What plastic is that dye made from? Delrin or something harder?
|
I love to see your posts. Awesome fab work.

That's going to be one sweet truck Phil!!!!
What's the story with the twin turbo camaro drag car???? :unibrow: |
I really like seeing these out-of-the-norm builds, very creative stuff again!
What's the story on the mid year vette lurking in the background? |

The vette is a 67 that just came in for a full turn key build. It will be used to debut our new C2 Corvette chassis. This one is getting the IFS/IRS combo with a LS7/T-56. We haven't gotten too far into the details yet. There are a lot of real unique ideas being kicked around, just have to see if the owner will let us go after them! He is leaning towards a more original looking car, but like I said, discussions have just begun on the design. We just started on the car this week and got it disassembled and ready to be blasted. I'll start a build thread once it starts progressing. |
This is going to be an awesome build. Love the fab work guys.

Further metal work.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221815.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221859.jpg Quarter panel completed: http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221872.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221875.jpg Also dropped the motor in, fabbed motor mounts, and began cutting out the floor for for trans clearance. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221855.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221876.jpg |
Further stellar metal work. :hail: This is becoming my favorite build thread even if it is a Chevy.
|
Random observation, I only seen one craftsman tool box in all of your different
threads that Ive seen. Is it mandatory for your techs to have snap on ???? lol |
Wow,.....just wow.
|
This is one cool project!

I'm definitely getting a pullmax after I move out of my parent's house.
:D I love you pros that show us how the metal work is done, even if a bit discouraging. I shape the metal okay and get good alignment, but still get a lot of shrinkage and even after flapping it you can definitely tell that something was joined. Always amazes me to see the two pieces joined in bare metal and not even be able to tell they were welded. |
What do you guys use to coat the inside metal pieces you replace to keep it from rusting again?

We normally use weld-thru primers. In this case we removed the entire inside panel from both sides of the truck so we could access the back side of the new panels that we were installing. The entire inside of the panels will be metal prepped and primed later on.

More progress on the truck this week. We finished the passenger side door metal work, installed the new inner and outer rocker and patched a few small holes in the floor. Then began on the firewall by cutting out the original sides and fabbing new flat sections.
http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221922.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221924.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221935.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture221957.jpg The center recess was then smoothed and holes were filled. The firewall was final welded and metal finished. I'll try to get a few pics of that next week when we can open the hood again. |
On the rear of the truck, we have the upper and lower tail gate fitted. On the upper portion we removed the stock supports that are pretty weak and rattle around. We pocked the tailgate hatch and installed gas support shocks.

The front of these trucks cause a lot of issues when sitting them low and running taller tires. The hood makes up the top of the fender on these trucks and there is a thick flange where the hood meets the lower fender section. This flange leaves no room for tire clearance unless the tires are sucked way in. We decided to split the hood and make the fender more like any other vehicle where it goes all the way up to the top of the door. This will also get rid of a lot of the unnecessary gaps in the front end of this truck.
Started out by fabbing filler strips to eliminate the gaps and weld the fender to the hood as well as the cowl side to both the hood and fender. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222045.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222048.jpg The hood and fender were then cut along the filler strip and the material between was removed. The filler strip was then tacked into place making the fender, and hood one piece. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222061.jpg The side portion of the hood was then cut away from the center so that it could form the top of the fender. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...re222062-1.jpg Still have to finish the cowl to fender and cowl to hood filler on Monday. For now the filler strip is held in place. The goal is to make this look like the truck came from the factory this way. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222069.jpg |
Outstanding work as always!

"The goal is to make this look like the truck came from the factory this way"
I have no doubt it will. Fab work looks great. |

A few more updates on the Suburban:
This shot gives you an idea how much added height we will get above the wheel opening by integrating the old hood side into the fender: http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222072.jpg Integrating blend pieces - http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222061.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...re222062-1.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222085.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222080.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222165.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222110.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222109.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222159.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ture222288.jpg |
The open hood sides are capped and the structure is modified to work with the new edge.
