Getting them to send pictures while I'm overseas has been a bit like pulling teeth but boy do I get excited when I see them pop in my inbox.

Can't wait to get back and start reassembly. Next thing to figure out is how to mount the man pedal and the DBW LS3 accelerator.

:hail: :hail: :hail: Perfection in progress!

I used a C4 Corvette gas pedal and modified it a bit to make it work with the lokar throttle cable and DBW LSX. This is one really cool build!

uxojerry 08-20-2012 09:54 AM

Where did you source the L88 hood and flares?

badmatt 09-03-2012 06:42 PM

this car just screams "spank me Daddy"

one of the best representations of a C3 I've seen in a long time.

Matt

Flash68 09-03-2012 07:13 PM

Flares are for winners.

Track Junky 09-03-2012 08:22 PM

Car looks great Eric.

Did you decide wether you were doing side pipes or not? Personally I think the side pipes would look killer. :unibrow:

The L88 hood is from J&D Corvette, the flares are ACI pieces that I got from Mid-America Corvette (direct link to them is located on the first page of this thread)

Absolutely CANNOT WAIT to get behind the wheel of this again. Still a ways to go but the light is at the end of the tunnel! Thank you for the kind words!

Thanks Gaetano! Have definitely decided to stick with side pipes. Now I need to decide whether to modify the side pipe headers I have now from an SBC to an LS flange and add O2 bungs or find someone to craft me new ones from scratch. Neither sounds like a cheap proposition so any recommendations would be much appreciated!

sokoloka 09-19-2012 07:34 AM

Not really much of a progress update but I did manage to get her up on a lift for the first time in her life:

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...DSC_0607-1.jpg

Moved back to San Diego from London this weekend so plan on dropping in on the vette at the shop a little more frequently to see how things are going...

Next steps for me: measuring up the driveshaft and going through the entire suspension with it up on a lift rather than wedged underneath on my back.

tazzz2_ca 09-19-2012 07:38 AM

digging this car.... One of my bucket list items to build a pro-touring 69

coolwelder62 09-19-2012 07:23 PM

WSSix 09-29-2013 08:24 AM

Not going to lie, I forgot about this build. Worst part is I really dig this build. Hope things have been moving along through the last year.

It's only been a YEAR since the owner last posted ----- what's going to happen to that memory when you get old?!?!?!?!

I too had forgotten about it -- and really like it. So hopefully Eric will chime in here.

FLYNAVY53 01-06-2014 02:37 AM

this things cool....hopefully its going well.

sokoloka 05-21-2014 03:29 PM

The build is NOT DEAD! Thank you for your patience. Unfortunately, until very recently, it might as well have been...

May 11th marked the passing of exactly three years since I dropped the body of the Vette off at the shop. Now, to be fair, during that time I lived in London for a while, travel like crazy for work, bought a house, had a bunch of other stuff going on, etc. On the other hand, there's been an agreed upon list of body work and other odd jobs in place since May 11th, 2011; of which I've still been waiting on completion of.

What makes this all the more frustrating is that I was able to strip the car twice, complete the chassis and most mechanical work over four months in a single car apartment garage.

Long story short, I've recently been able to re-inspire them to complete the task list on my vehicle. I've booked an appointment with a custom header guy who needs the car to complete the LS side pipe headers and am dragging the Vette out of there completed or not. Reviewed the remaining tasks, set up a timeline, and have been stopping by for progress reviews on a regular basis.

Continental drift aside, body shop got my bumpers / trim back from the de-chroming and satin powder coat. FINALLY starting to come together!

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...sed5879d5.jpeg

I was originally on the fence about spending all the $$$ for stripping the chrome and going PC but now that I see it definitely glad I did.

Will be stopping by the shop in person on Friday morning to get some further updated pics. Hope the front end will be completely reassembled and the car weatherstripped by then too! The work they have completed has been nothing short of excellent so I hope it continues that way.

Flash68 05-21-2014 04:21 PM

That looks outstanding!

Welcome back. :popcorn2:

LS7 Z/28 05-21-2014 04:30 PM

Really looking forward to seeing this completed! I wasn't sure if it was coming back from the dead or not. Love every part of it.

WSSix 05-21-2014 05:02 PM

I'm looking forward to it as well. Glad to know you're pleased with their abilities even if they can't keep on schedule. Good luck!

FLYNAVY53 05-22-2014 01:03 AM

Thanks for the update!! I love the way the rear looks with the "CORVETTE" letters removed....really cleans it up. Ive been waiting anxiously for updates as Ive finally found a British Racing Green roadster that Im going to start work on this summer.

sokoloka 05-22-2014 05:21 PM

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Trying to keep positive and counting down the days until it's back in my possession and I can initiate the final jam before getting it on the road again.

Glad to be back. Was so burned out, frustrated, etc that I even stopped surfing sites like this one for over a year. Refreshed and back on the scene again!

Another update from the body shop today: FIA lights are in and INSTALLED!

Can't wait to see the lexan bubbles get fitted so they can re-hang the front bumpers and grille! Glass guy is there dropping in a new windshield right now as well.

I plan on paying a visit early tomorrow now that I'm back in SD. Hope to get some daylight shots of the whole car with the recent progress.

vstol 05-22-2014 05:33 PM

well done

Been trying to wipe the smile off my face for a few hours now :)
Next step after they finish hanging the front bumper and inner grilles is take it in for custom LS side pipe headers. Plan is to have it back on the road by the end of July!

sokoloka 05-23-2014 06:42 PM

It wasn't all fun and games when I was there however... Noticed a pretty significant ding in the lip of the front driver's side wheel...

I had the wheels drop shipped directly from CCW, and they've never left the shop. Any recommendations as to how I address this with the shop? At the very least I'd like to get that wheel re-hooped as it's more of a gouge rather than a scratch in the ano.

aussiebj 05-24-2014 05:14 AM

Love the build the flares and wheels make that a standout...Good luck with the shop be careful if you push too hard they can make it a nightmare to get your car back.. Just approach it like you cant understand how that happened and what do you(meaning Them) think we can do about it.. you get more with sugar than vinegar i have found out..
Ill keep my fingers crossed for ya..

FLYNAVY53 05-24-2014 05:37 AM

agreed, before going in guns blazing, I would casually pull the manager aside and ask if he'd be willing to foot the bill for a new hoop for the wheel and explain to him that a new hoop is the most inexpensive option. I would imagine with the amount of money you've spent at his shop, if he's a good business owner, he wouldn't have a problem with that. Good luck, and great car!!

This. Be reasonable when approaching the subject. Obviously, something has happened and it needs to be addressed.

Car looks good sitting on its wheels outside. Glad you're happy with the work!

andreb 05-27-2014 10:53 AM

That looks awesome!!

sokoloka 06-05-2014 02:31 PM

Small update but still an update!

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...sd8f2ff88.jpeg

They've been chipping away at the remaining to-do's and sent me a pic of the hood pins drilled and installed. Hope to have a much bigger update this weekend or at the latest, middle of next week.

Can't wait to have it back! :G-Dub:

The anticipation is really starting to build now ... ! Front end looks MEAN without the chrome.

T-minus 15 days and counting until I drop her off for custom LS side pipe headers. Can't wait!

Ron in SoCal 06-06-2014 10:00 PM

Awesome Eric. Car looks sick!
