Haha yeah but my flares won't be as extreme as those going with a more shuttle approach, the main reason for the flares is the wheel well is rusted out so I have to replace the metal so I figure I'd might as well flare it so I can put some fatter wheels on. Those are cool flares though.

The rusted rear wheel wells.

Flared the back of the car this past weekend.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psd5e87ec3.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psa0655ff1.jpg I screwed in a couple sheet metal screws to do all of the adjustment. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psfe4d15a0.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...pse8663503.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psfb4acf92.jpg Next I screwed in all the sheet metal screws so they would be easier to drill once I put the flares on for good. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7d9043ea.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1187f5bd.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps12def8a7.jpg Next was marking off where i needed to do the cutting. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps729dcf35.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psf9882dec.jpg |
After the cuts were made.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5b3c2118.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps04457b3b.jpg Next I spot welded the inner wheel well to the outer sheet metal. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0661fa4a.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5b2c75cb.jpg |
I then started to put the flare on and started grinding the inner down till the flare fit.

Put small pieces of fiberglass and applied the resin and put them on the car.

Thinking of removing the carbonfiber bumper and putting the chrome back on. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psfa39cedf.jpg |
Next step was to pull the engine and clean up the engine bay.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps65262801.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps295ad05b.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4dd847fd.jpg The radiator support was all bent so I removed that and am going to put new one on. Sometime in the cars life the passenger side front apron had been hit so it is all bent and mangled so I am going to replace this metal along with the radiator support. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psd3ff4e71.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps52f0a390.jpg You can see the shock tower has a big dent in it as well so that will be replaced at the same time. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9fa9c371.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psebd36da2.jpg Front apron removed. http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0ce81ed4.jpg |
Got the rest of the apron and shock tower out.

I was going for a retro trans am car look and must say I am more than satisfied with how it turned out.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1539d8cc.jpg http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psfdcf0e07.jpg |
yeah looks good ! Great result for home brewed work. You must have some experience with this stuff though. The rear flares came out especially nice, I wish you had shown a picture of it being bondoed. Maybe I don't have much experience with the stuff but it sure seems like you'd have to feather it out a long ways to cover up the 1/8" thick flare flange.

I think you nailed the look. Good job!

Really cool build. The fender flares really set it off, they look great. I like the retro Trans Am Series look too.
|
Nice, so it was your car posted on the Maier racing FB page the other day.

Took the car out to an auto-x a couple weekends ago. Didn't tighten the mount all the way on the camera so its pretty shaky but things were working pretty well.
