You need to change that tool BS in your signature. If SAR can charge whatever bucks per hour, you can double it at your shop. :D Seriously, that's some serious stuff there. Who'da known. |
|
 I knowned it. |
|
So the rumor is true  |
|
Man Im with flash on this one. Skrew what everyone says about you, that sig shiat is BS "I have some tools... would someday like to have some skill using them..." The only thing you proved here is that you actually do know how to use them. So, now I'm a little confused and not sure if I should ever believe anything you say around here. BTW, nice work my friend :hail:  |

Good job Greg and Rudy. Car looks great. |

After 40 years of doing this stuff... you learn a few things. :D HAHAHAHAHA....... I have to tell ya that I texted Rudy and said -- ya know what? We just built an entire car (everything but the body was done) and we fired it off and drove it... and that's more than you can say about SAR's work!:wow: Only trouble we had... The valve cover gasket - which were notched for clearance of the push rods. The engine builder did them. I made new ones put them on. ZERO leaks. |

Thank you.... I think. Truth be told - I don't join in on all the techno discussions around here... I'd rather just stand off to one side and lob a grenade once in awhile. I try to help the less experienced guys if I can and stay out of the stuff that doesn't require my input. I kinda chuckle to myself when people are surprised that I can use my shed... I think "really?.... Did you really think I invested all that time and effort and $$ for that kind of stuff and not know just a little bit about what it takes to do the work too?" :woot: |
|
This is where I get the skills from.... owning "smart" tools! :D http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/file-102.jpg |

Great job their Greg! I wish I had a brother in law that we could build a car together for fun.. Rudy is lucky! |

Thanks Cris! I kept telling Rudy that I was just trying to protect my sister... I wanted her to have a safe car to drive. HAHAHAHAHAHA It's all about just giving back... whether a guy has the skills and helps someone - or has parts that aren't being used and never will be - or a little extra dough that would make a difference in someone else's life.... To me -- it's like volunteering at the RTTC events etc. Without volunteers - we have no events. |

Awesome project Greg and kudo's to you for building it in your garage. Even if it looks like a shop |

Thanks Marty! Many "shops" wish they had the stuff in my shed! :unibrow: |

I figured you knew something based on your support around here, just didn't know you used the goods collected. However, I have a new found love for you :D and I'm impressed that you use your tools when you can. Not only do you have a nice shed set up, I also noticed (from the car loading to trailer picture) it's placed in a very nice scenic location. Now Im just plain jealous. |

Sweet project! You're a good dude GW  As others have said, I hope I am in a position one day to give back as much as this guy has. |

Too funny.... yeah -- the neighborhood I live in is not particularly a "hot rod" neighborhood.. That's not my house or trailer. That house is a dump... and they don't take care of the yard (a pet peeve of mine!) but it's for sale and hopefully the new people do a better job. I live in a cheap house based on where I live... a real house is 5MM and up... I live on the wrong side of the tracks but I have an acre and a quarter that is flat - on a corner - with a separate driveway for the shed... and that's what I want. I don't give a hoot about the "address". Not important to me. The trailer is Rudy's - which is why he gets my old one when the new one gets here... my old one isn't worth much and I'd rather give it to him than sell it. He can sells his and pocket the $$ Not bragging and not patting myself on the back... facts is just facts.... but I do more car stuff in a month than most do in a year... and it's been that way for as long as I care to remember. The only guy I know that does more "car stuff" is Charley... unless of course - you're a professional. But I'm talking about going places etc not just working on them. I've restored and built and modified more cars than I can remember -- maybe 30 or 40 - maybe more... I'm old - I can't remember what I had for breakfast. :D I just don't post the stuff that I do unless I think it's of interest. And it's not like I'm building SEMA cars... or Riddler winners. It's just hot rodding stuff... |
|
Just to piss ya off a little more.... What I jump in after a day spent in the shed... The shed is to the left side of the trees... so you can't really see it (planned that way). We excavated in order to set the shop WAY down so you can't see much (anything) over the fence etc. http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_7836.jpg |

I think its really impressive and a testament of a true craftsmen to do your own work... not out of necessity but simply out of love for the process and pride in the outcome.... Bravo! |

I think I see some "Sweet Baby Rays" barbacue sauce sitting on that table, what time you want me over for dinner Greg? :D Nice work there Greg! |

It was there last night. Pam (my sister) drove it to work and then to Beaches. Rudy says they've put 300 miles on it since Sunday. My '32 spent that many miles on a rollback... |

You and I think alike! I looked at that when I choose it for the post and thought... "oh -- that's going to get some comments".  Really though --- for the guys that don't have one --- it's a handy damn tool for so many things because it reads in any position. |
|
I'm not patting myself on the back --- but I did find a great pic of what something CAN look like if you build stuff and don't give a darn.... Not Rudys car --- just a pic I found of a "similar" plumbing job (the trans cooling lines): http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/file-123.jpg Now the lines I made for Rudy's: The line separator is drilled and tapped into the chassis and holds the lines http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...o/file-115.jpg |

Greg, Great job, and I am always impressed with what you can do. |

After you build a few... you manage to gain some basic skills. :unibrow: To me -- more impressive builds are guys like Jason (WAR) that manage to do SEMA quality stuff their very first time around! I will also say this for the benefit of the PROFESSIONAL SHOPS: Until you've actually done the work yourself (the client) - it's very hard to understand why a pro shop charges the amount of hours it takes to build this stuff. But if you've done the actual work - then you finally get it. Doing stuff RIGHT takes time... it takes an investment in tools... and the skills to use them require time and commitment and that doesn't come in the form of cheap labor. |
|
When managing and posting up pics (a cumbersome experience at best!) I sometimes have to laugh at what I "see" in the pics... such as the upside-down degree tool (It's so smart it doesn't care!)... or the scribble on the paper taped to the floor... or how 'bout the "notes" on cans. Here's the deal with a "home builder"... I don't TIG daily - I don't run my milling machine very often - I don't paint something but maybe a couple times a year. I know myself and I know that I can't remember all the details! Hell - I can't even remember the firing order of a SBC - something I've owned and built and raced for 40 years! http://i919.photobucket.com/albums/a...ro/file-48.jpg |

I must admit your abilities exceeded my perception. Very impressed with your talent level. But are you talented enough to do this: http://sieg.smugmug.com/Other/Weldin...IMAG2733-L.jpg :unibrow: |
