What i've found was the size of the water container makes the biggest impact on how it comes (Size does matter  ) Ideally you want a container 1" bigger on every side, i've got idea to make this flexible and if it works i'll forward some pics.

I'm still working on trials, next is a set of extra LS valve covers I don't plan on using...

Thanks Chief....I'm really procrastinating to make sure i do it only once. right now i'm i'm ordering connectors and sample running wires. I haven't fully convinced myself where i'm mounting the front units, not enough room under the console so i'm looking at the glove box but anything is up for grabs. i'll have a full set of schematics and i'm using the original camaro switches, if it works i'll share....

updates

JW that's what i'm shooting for regarding the console....thx

Dyno run is officially off for until the week of the 8th. Didn't get the Holley stuff in time and with the holiday this week and i'm out of the country the following week we're in the holding pattern until i get back.

so i'll work on wiring and plumbing.....

overdue update....hvy with Pics

Time for an update….lots of things have happened since Nov….
First off we finally made some hydrocarbons…..got it in the test cell. Very satisfied with the experience and would recommend the engine builder anytime and with it being the first time I used a Holley ECU it was very helpful having the Holley rep there working the laptop and showing me the basics as we tuned it. Overall I missed my estimate on cost…but that’s been a given every step of the way..
A couple caveats which doesn’t mean much but I was told prior to the test we were going to use 1 7/8” primary headers but he only had 1 ¾” so not sure what I left on the table but I’m still extremely happy with the outcome. I would’ve bought some for the run if I had known ahead of time…The other was I had to use 91 octane so only put in 28 degrees of timing at WOT…..Wasn’t really worried about a peak number just concerned if it will affect my tune with bigger headers….betting it won’t.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psd68b2f30.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps190dd90d.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psd8600c66.jpg
Chief you asked about my progress with the ISIS (Now Infinity Box) its coming but I’m really moving at glacier speed….Since my earlier posts I’ve changed some routings and functionalities. Actually the help I get from Infinity Box when I call is phenomenal……I’m using Delphi style weatherpak connectors for all my internal connections and military spec flange plugs for the fire wall. I’m also going to redo and optimize the Holley harness and connect that through a mil spec plug on the fire wall.
Here’s the Holley Harness before I molest it….
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps5723cbd5.jpg
Here’s my 12v source for the rear of the car, I’ve also incorporated the PWM from the Vaporworx tank,
Top
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps0832f987.jpg
Bottom
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps1ecbfb43.jpg
Installed, use your imagination the battery will be in front of it…
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps3927cfca.jpg
So I’m starting in the back with my wiring on the tank and will work my way up to tail lights….here’s my connection for the tank consisting of Pump pwr, fuel gauge and pressure regulator..
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps64db2950.jpg
Connected (but its upside down )
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pse0230895.jpg

I'd like to drive my to fans with the Holley HP...if anyone has any tips let me know. all i need is "ground" outputs from the ECU..the infinitybox system will take it from there. I'm just guessing but i think i can set these two outputs to trigger a ground output at two different temps...anyone know the system better than I?

thanks for checking in....

waynieZ 01-05-2015 08:36 PM

Some sweet numbers right there for sure! I like the set up for the power in the back and the power for the fuel power and sender, slick idea. Nice work.

Engine and Headers test fit

Ok for some more updates; Still plugging away at this thing. Couple issues have arose first around engine fitment. I knew the dry sump was going to be close but until I could get it in I didn’t know which way. I’m using the DSE subframe with the 1 ½” offset motor mounts and when I reviewed and checked my dimensions with Bill at Dailey I knew it was going to be tight……well it turned out be about ½” too tight so we had to modify the subframe.
Dry Sump clearance

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psuapkvd7k.jpg

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps45gbalk1.jpg

Here’s the results,….had to modify the motor mount and move the nut plate to accommodate along with a “notch” to fit the pump and pan.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps6rsrbx35.jpg

Headers
Also grabbed some headers on line….2” Lemons. I spoke with Dan at lemons and he assured me that they we’re built to fit the DSE subframe and they do “kinda”. I believe they would’ve fit just fine if I didn’t have the 1 ½” offset motor mounts. Very slight rub on the passenger side, probably 1/8” at the most. I’ll notch the a-arm perch to fit it, but nothing major. Really happy with the way they fit regarding ground clearance and engine compartment

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pshrmive6i.jpg

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psojbzc9ka.jpg
Very happy with the ground clearance……

Tony V 08-17-2015 11:22 AM

More Electrical....work

Firewall Plugs;
Ran into Murphy’s law regarding the wiring…….but I’m glad I noticed it now. I’m going to have to move the ECU Harness plug on the right to the left side….with the backshell on the plug it will hit my oil pressure sender….
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psmizx26id.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pspeffcsmc.jpg

Down Bars:
Bent and mocked up some down bars….you can see I tried to move the front mount position as far forward and possible, a better moment arm to absorb some deflection. Wasn’t going to install them at all but I did notice some deflection when I was jacking up the car therefore I went for it…
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps166ebe21.jpg
Making Progress with the wiring and incorporating the ISIS (Infinity Box) system and the HP Holley Harness. Tail/Brakes lights are done along with the entire fuel system. I’m also slowly modifying the entire Holley harness (didn’t plan on it but its happening, ugh scope creep). But there’s several things the Infinity Box can handle much cleaner thus making the ECU harness easier….i’m also making my own schematics as a go so its taking some time in finalizing… just one example the main harness comes with a relay and fuse for the fuel pump and to power the injectors and coils. I was able to eliminate the entire relay by utilizing the Infinity system to drive those functions. I’m also running my fans through the Infinity box…nothing real fancy like PWM but I’ll have two outputs from the Holley HP (2 different temp outputs) those outputs will trigger the Infinity box to turn on and off the fans. To handle the sudden spike in amps we’ll have it programed to slow ramp therefore I don’t need to wire additional relays…..

A much more elegant solution would be to drive the fans via PWM. This can be done with the Holley HP and a C6 Corvette fan controller.

Totally agree, and i've read through your post many times.....but I've got to stick to my plan or i'll never finish this project. I've been watching our post regularly and picked up several good points, i just can't start changing again. Although if i find out the "digital event" of turning the fans on and off don't work out for me i'll modify down the road. i've got a goal to get this running in the garage by Christmas time....

Thx for the tips I appreciate it.....

No problem. I was just answering that you yourself posed...LOL

The wiring changes to implement PWM are easy and the benefits are many. I can tell you that with my Cougar, I barely hear the fans in normal driving conditions, while in my GTO the fans are so annoying, cycling ON/OFF at full blast. They make more noise than the exhaust.

Andrew

Tony V 08-18-2015 01:36 PM

ok i'll bite :bang: because I think PWM is the way to go....

question, should I control both fans with 1 controller or use two different controllers.....

Your comment about the fan noise made me reconsider my "no change policy".....

My neighbor bought a brand new F150 and when the fan is on you can't hear sh**, not real ideal in my opinion..

There is a lot of info here:

https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=40215

Some pertaining to Holley but mostly to stock ECUs. I recall that someone in that thread said that they used a single controller for dual Spal fans. John Parsons is working on a LS9 Camaro and is using two controllers.

What kind of fans are you using?

Andrew

Tony V 08-18-2015 02:11 PM

I'm using the PRC core support with 2 13" spal fans

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...ps4d96ca42.jpg

Thanks for the info...let me dig into it and see i can make it happen without changing too much....2 steps forward 1 step backwards.....but

the PWM might be the way to go and I'd hate to finish and find out all I can hear is fan noise...unless i run open headers.....:unibrow:

Tony V 08-18-2015 02:13 PM

BTW before someone jumps on it....in the pic I bent conduit for mock up purposes only....

andrewb70 08-18-2015 02:15 PM

Spal seems to make a few different 13" fans. Do you know the amp draw?

Andrew

Tony V 08-18-2015 02:43 PM

with them directly hooked up to my battery...13.5v

turn on spiked at 45amps ea
continuous draw at 15amps ea

I think one controller will do it. There will be no spike at start up, because of the PWM activation. The C6 fan is rated at 400 watts, which at your 13.5v comes out to just under 30amps. Also keep in mind that the fan controller max speed is 90% duty cycle, although I don't know what that means for amp draw at max speed.

You can always install a single controller and wire it to a single fan and see what the draw is at 90% duty cycle. I bet it'll be less that 15 amps, in which case two fans should be fine.

FWIW, there are a couple of threads on LS1tech that mention a Chrysler PWM controller. They are less expensive than the C6 controller and they seem to work the same way. Might look into that and run 2 of them.

The C6 controllers are about $100 from Amazon.

Andrew

Tony V 08-19-2015 06:50 PM

thanks Andrew....i'm convinced. ordered the C6 controller, got a spot ready to mount it. Now i'm trying to source the connector, i think I saw some info on the connector on an earlier post..

Really appreciate the heads, probably a 100% better going with the PWM.

Glad to help.

Scot might have more connectors:

https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=50466

This is another reason why I used the C6 fan. They come with the connector and my Dorman fan was somehow only 80 bucks on Amazon.

already reached out to Scot....and yes you got a hell of a deal with your fan and controller.

For the fan connection I used the Metripack series 480 connectors. I have all the parts you need, if you are interested.

And the progress continues….slow but I’m making headway. I’ve been in the “electrical penalty box” for some time. Totally underestimated the time it was going to take, oh and the cost. The little crap adds up after months of building, undoing, rebuilding…etc.etc…
So I finished the harness under the dash….really struggled with how clean I wanted to route everything and simplify if I could. Actually I made this much harder and costlier by wanting to use firewall plugs and modifying the Holley harness maybe after time I’d feel different but I’m second guessing myself.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pscld05zf4.jpg

But its done….I can pull the entire harness out relatively easy to modify and add functionality down the road. I’m also planning on running the car in primer to make sure everything works as planned; it will have to come apart for paint next winter. I did power it up “slowly” looking for spikes in amps using a DC generator rather than a battery so I don’t apply infinite amps immediately…..so no small fires. I was able to fire up the ECU and download. Gauges worked thus far so we’re getting close. Pulling the engine 1 last time to finalize the tranny harness, and terminate the leads.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pskneucbzh.jpg

Next big step was the accessories…really had a hard time with the cost of buying a $2500 off the shelf system. I also wanted to run initially without A/C and later upgrade without modifying the basic setup. Found a local supplier, just by chance and they we’re great to work with and the fit was exactly what I was looking for. I believe adding up all the receipts I’m at ~$750. Still need to plumb the power steering and the alternator comes in this week, after that I’ll size the belt and call it done.

http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psunv28ubv.jpg

Plumbed the dry sump although I need to route the tank drain line, my thought was to run a line straight down to the floor and hard mount it through the floor with a bulk head -8 fitting and just cap it and safety wire it.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psrbxtbens.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pspajcsbtf.jpg

Next route the fuel line from the tank to the “Y” block in the engine compartment. Any suggestions I’d appreciate it but it looks like by best option brings the fuel line up and over the exhaust at the corner of the fuel tank……need to get some pics for clarity.

The goal is to start this thing up by the end of Feb……huge milestone considering this project started in the fall of 1999!!!! BTW I suck at posting updates….

will69camaro 01-25-2016 11:27 AM

Where did you get your milspec connectors and what size are you running and where? I'm doing this exact thing and have been struggling with where to mount them and what pin out to use.

I am interested in this PWM C6 controller for the fans, as I'm using the two 14" Maradyn that come with the autorad and looks like they each pull max 17.2amp once running (not sure startup amp if not using the PWM controller).

Appreciate the information in your thread, I'd like to pick your brain on the modifications to the holley harness as I'll be doing that in the very near future!

William

Tony V 01-26-2016 04:48 AM

I found the Consesys catalog the most use friendly one.....i stayed with the series II type connector. http://www.conesys.com/

I'm on the road right now but i can give you the pin outs and part numbers later this week when i get back home. I also used the Infinitybox electrical system rather than using a standard camaro harness so my pin out is relatively unique.

will69camaro 01-26-2016 04:58 AM

Thanks I'll take a look at that. Yea I saw you're using the infinity. That's fine as it just makes the body harness diff. Holley is my biggest headache trying to figure mil spec harnesses for.

moving right along....

Progress is progress…..Got it running although not until April but ITS RUNNING!!!! After 16 years the Camaro is making noise again. One minor issue, considering my novice skills and all the custom wiring I’m extremely happy. I accidentally swapped the signal & Pwr wire on the Crank Signal pigtail. Delayed me a couple hrs but figured it out. Actually if you follow the Holley “start up” instructions closely you can’t really go wrong. The HP has a min basic requirements for running and it wasn’t getting an “RPM” read so it didn’t take long to pinpoint the issue.
Seats are in and I’m working the final fit for the console and gauges…Steering wheel installed and I’m working on throttle pedal placement. I believe I’ll need to move it up approx. 1.5” to get the right toe/heel position.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psv7rm2sm3.jpg
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...pstranrl0b.jpg

Had to modify the hood due to the engine set back towards the firewall, now working the air cleaner base to clear the hood when closed. A lot harder than originally planned and with a 4500 style TB and needing a 1” drop base there wasn’t an option I could find on the market so I’m fab’g my own. Also didn’t want to go any higher with the cowl induction hood.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psck7i4awy.jpg

Ordered Wheels last month, so looking for a late August delivery, here’s a rendering from Jason.
http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...psex2rahii.jpg

I had an idea on BS and size but to feel fully comfortable I started over and assured I was squared from corner to corner and made my own wheel fitment tool out of all thread. Wheels cost too much to get it wrong.

Goals: need to be on the road by Oct 1, Goes to the exhaust shop next Saturday. Then I need to order a drive shaft and front & rear glass. Also need to spend some time on setting up the suspension and corner weights. I’ll drive it with primer until next year until I can vet out all the mechanical systems.
First Race event scheduled for Nov 5, hopefully I can iron out all the issues that arise.
