Who built the shroud?
|
its from Ledfoot racing. the radiator is a 4 core 23" champion. it was a package deal on ebay with two 12" fans and the shroud.
I just couldn't hype myself up to buy a $950+ radiator. Its a simple piece with a simple job to do and it has no moving parts. If it wasn't for looks i probably would have bought a new stock style plastic/aluminum radiator and slapped a mark VIII fan on it. The radiator itself is nice. The mounts measure 29" across but both of my core supports measure 29.5" so I had to drill new holes in the core support. The fans are Chinese and there weren't any instructions. As soon as I get back in town and find a lower radiator hose I'll know if it all works as intended |
I ended up selling the stock subframe and tru turn setup. Bought a DSE instead. Car is getting media blasted this week. Can't believe it's been 3 years since this thread has been updated. I just read my previous post, thought it was funny that I wanted to save money on the radiator. I bought a chevelle in 2015 and when the radiator went out I bought an $1,100 dollar replacement...

Did you get far enough along to check out clearances with your wheels using the Tru Turn set up? What backspace?
Thanks |
I never could get the tru turn worked out to my satisfaction. Too much of a compromise to get the 265's in there. i was either going to have to deal with rubbing tires, a raised front end, or reduced turning radius. Actually, with the tru turn i think you will have at least two of the above mentioned compromises. I never was happy with it and ended up getting the detroit speed sub frame. I chose that mainly because their subframe is setup for exactly my backspacing.
So it was either detroit speed or put 245's on a rehooped wheel. I ended up selling the stock subframe with ridetech setup to someone else. helped a lot with the cost on the DSE subframe To answer your original question, my wheels measured roughly 6.125- 6.25" on backspace. They needed more backspace to clear the outer fenders, but by adding more backspace I would have reduced turning radius tremendously. Think three point turn just to get into a parking space |
Finally moving along at the paint shop. Amazing how time goes by

Great color!
|
Just read thru complete thread. Nice step up with the DSE frame. Green looks really good also. Keep up the good work!
|
thanks gents. It's been a long process getting to this point.
Looking forward to finally getting it out of paint. Should be done this weekend or next. |
What color? It looks either dk grey, or (and I'm not sure) the Phantom Green.
|
The paint look slick, nice job.
|
The color is fathom Green PPG 2079
Here are a few more pictures of the paint before the clear coat was buffed. Seeing Chris Kinker's fathom green camaro by dutch boys is what finally sold me on going back to the original green https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...210_114428.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...r/IMG_8833.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...%20%282%29.jpg and one in the sun https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...121_131707.jpg |

Really nice! Love the color
|
|
Love it! Any plans for stripes?
|
no stripes, only a black out back panel.
going with the green bumper and black grill. only emblem will be the SS emblem on the rear panel only chrome will be window and drip rail molding. May add the rocker molding... maybe. |
That looks great. I am sort of partial to builds that get done over the long haul and mostly in the garage.

Heck yeah! All you lack is finishing up.

That color is beautiful. Think it would look nice with some dark grey wheels in the center and black lip. Nice job.
