Some progress pics on the Chevelle!
With the taillight surround sheetmetal finalized, we could begin the engineering portion of the new taillight assembly: The talilights will have a similar light pattern as the fronts with the long center trim housing the 'Chevrolet' letters which will serve as the third brake light. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5534/9...ca1be43d_b.jpg http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5456/9...1c6d9c2d_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7371/9...e64b6161_b.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3820/9...69c4db8e_b.jpg We also have a good direction for the interior with the narrowed up dash and gauge cluster, custom gauges and iPod mini integration. The center console will also feature capacitive touch surfaces for much of the regular switch functions and GSM push button shifter. Oh and a cupholder! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7338/9...0940044a_b.jpg |
:confused59: Wow!
|
Sheetmetal work on the front end is also underway with the new opening and trim pieces being created.

My stance remains the same as before. When my $hip comes in I'm forwarding it to you guys at RS :) |

We have been very busy with Tim's 64 over the past few months. Here is the picture recap of what we have been up to.
Finished up all of the metal work on the nose of the car for now. Headlights and grille still to come. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...psa61668bc.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps2c4e781a.jpg Trans and driveshaft tunnel for the 6L90 http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps79fead5e.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps1f7abbff.jpg Wanted to try something different than the standard smooth or bead rolled look for the firewall so we fabbed this up. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...pse775944f.jpg Removed the stock piece that looked like it was blasted with a shot gun http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps6762c2e6.jpg And welded i the new panel. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps754d8d8b.jpg |
Here is a look into the engine compartment and how it was built.
Rough mock up and initial panel fabrication. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...psc4ca2f0d.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps115f73d2.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps054f7bdf.jpg Close out panels around the radiator http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps6baa28b6.jpg http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps844e6188.jpg Added some indentations around the mounting hardware and the new hood latches. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps83000869.jpg The completion of phase 1 of the inner fender... http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...psad1517ef.jpg |
That metal work, so awesome! Lookin good. :unibrow:

an other masterpiece of the RS

A few more pics of the underhood fab:
Adding some detail recesses to the inner fenders http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3812/1...f542e9e3_b.jpg IMG_7547 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3740/1...bdee7388_b.jpg Picture 315 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2842/1...7202d00a_b.jpg IMG_8674 (2) by Roadster Shop, on Flickr We also decided to smooth and simplify the windshield cowl panel for a cleaner look: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2837/1...229bfdda_b.jpg IMG_9465 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3822/1...09c9e90e_b.jpg IMG_9428 (2) by Roadster Shop, on Flickr |
One detail that seemed to scream out to us from day one when we got the car was the awkward intersect of the forward corner for the door, cowl and fender.
A few tape lines later and we had a plan to bring it all together a little more elegantly... http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2847/1...1121fd5f_b.jpg door by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5534/1...e40ea2b7_b.jpg IMG_9464 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3686/1...4302c38b_b.jpg IMG_9725 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3825/1...88291e69_b.jpg IMG_9949 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5506/1...1d01aaef_b.jpg IMG_9911 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr Looks like it should have been this way in the first place... http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5532/1...69f9618a_b.jpg IMG_9904 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7392/1...9fb37af1_b.jpg DSC_0071 by Roadster Shop, on Flickr |

I have a dumb question because I can't tell from the pictures, are the fender wells, close out panels, etc. in the engine compartment aluminum or steel?
|
And I worry how to get the gaps straight. Thank God for craftsman like you guy's
|
Love it! The firewall is a good departure from the normal smooth firewall look. Good job guys.

Thanks to everyone else for the responses. Here is a little further work on the dash.
Tim wanted to keep the original shape of the dash, but narrow up the gauge area. We also wanted to get rid of a lot of the clutter in the rest of the original dash. To start, we narrowed up the original gauge cluster portion of the dash to figure out the size that we wanted for the opening. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...psb0909353.jpg Then cut everything apart and re-shapped the dash, smoothed the lower portion, and added in a 69 Camaro glove box door to flow better with the new dash shape. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...psb1a34ed3.jpg All metal finished and smooth http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...ps1ab4d420.jpg We will come back and machine a new gauge bezel to fit the narrowed opening. http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/s...psdbb462a9.jpg |
The multitude of tweaks and fixes on this car are just superb. Great job!
|
great work
Wow the change to the doors is the way the factory should have done it. Great build guys.
