Thanks guys, that hood was a definite pain in the ass to get the same as the rest of the car texture wise. Taking my time on it paid off using the finer grit discs.

Smitty68 05-01-2014 12:46 PM

Got more pics of the hood. I will post pics of what I used on my paint for some of you that may want to try doing this yourself. You must know if you try this you can and will ruin your paint, so if you try it be carefull! I got some more of the front wiring, relays, and other things buttoned up today as well.

Very nice car!!

Did you get the tires yet? What size are you shooting for?

I was looking at your pictures and was wondering, are you running the bttery in the trunk? It looks like it... But i see the long black (ground ?) wire and wasnt sure why its going back to the front (if its what it does?) ??.

Keep posting pics, i love the color too! I usually am not too much of an "out of the box" kind of guy when it comes to paint schemes but i really dig yours!!

You should give us some details on what you use and the steps to get a finish like that!! I have everything to do the job (tools) but have always been afraid to try it out! .... I find it little scary, even if i do every other part of the builds myself lol!!! That one always has be braking!

Cheers!!

Smitty68 08-26-2014 05:54 PM

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I fitted one of my front wheels today to look for any clearance issues. Gladly none were to be found.

It has a trunk mount battery kit with remote solenoid back there as well. Most of my steps are similar to some of the other guys here on the site. I use the 3M trizact system of pads. They can be used with a water DA sander or just with a hook-it pad for the sanding discs. I generally start out wet sanding with 2000 and work my way up to 5000 being the finish up stage. The reason for the 5000 is to make the paint come back out from sanding and cuts a lot out of the time of running my buffer. Plus it gives me a chance to really fine tune it where I'm wanting to stay clear of cutting/buffing it too much and screw it up...
I use foam mequiars pads on all of my cars as well.
As far as tires go I'm thinking of going with 225/40's on the front and 275/35's on the back. My wheels are staggered 18's and 19's. Those tire sizes I may or may not go with. Especially on the front.
Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Thanks guys, added a couple more items to the car as time and $ would allow. Speedhut is currently working on my gauges and as soon as the fuel tank is mounted and plumbed I should be pretty close to making some noise.

Thanks, it's a nice piece. Very well built, and it has two rows of 1 1/4" tubes. It should serve me very well.

You're very welcome Jon!

Randy: We could offer slimmer fans, but have found these to pull the amount of airflow that we like to see on our setups. We are testing other fans to see if we can find/make a slimmer setup that will still provide the CFMs we need.

The SPAL 11" fans are rated 800-1375 CFM per, and ours are rated 1500 per...while still only pulling 20A each when on full-tilt boogie

waynieZ 03-16-2015 12:24 PM

The radiator look good in there!

Lovin' the techno-speak right there. Makes me think of the first time I went 88 mph with Doc Brown and Marty on the big screen.

That's a compliment by the way, just in case it wasn't clear.

Got the guages installed and power to the car from the battery for the first time since the start of this build. A weight off my back to say the least being its the first complete re wire I've done... Here are a couple pics of the guages from SpeedHut.

I like those gauges. Good selection.

Roberts68 04-12-2015 07:06 AM

Those gauges fit your build great! I keep seeing cool gauges from Speedhut but not really feeling it when I have gone on their website.
How were they to deal with? Did you have support in ordering/design or just point and click on what you wanted?
Congrats on the milestone!

Congrats on the milestone!

It is mainly point and click. But they will turn out way better than what you see on the build page. And they have an option if you call them to send you a proof of them before the actual build.

Thanks man it means a lot. The 4 link and Moser/Tru trac 12 bolt will go in in the next couple weeks and the vintage air as well. Hoping to at least button most of this thing up in the next month or so.
