I don't think there is any concern about DBA levels here

One of the better offenses I've seen is this group: http://www.sharetrails.org/ They managed to gather mass and revenue by uniting motorcyclists, atv'ers, snowmobilers, mountain bikers, and equestrians to fight recreational land closures. They've made a difference. |
I am going to guess
that my car will not qualify to run, which is fine. My question is can I still run/participate and not get scored?
For me it is about hanging with my peeps and getting to drive some awesome tracks. |
Optima sound
Looks like I might have just bought myself some time as Laguna
is not going to be an option at 90db.. I will talk to my Muffler guy who is the man for Norcal Shelby group.... he told me a while back that some of the Trans Am cars were running two sets of mufflers to get down to 105 My Pantera with the short exhaust will be an issue unless I split the 180's exiting point which is not an option now that I welded those holes up... The firebird might have a chance but not sure it is worth the effort in order to run the one event.. have to retune it etc I did run Laguna the first time this year (105 day) and yes it is a world class track but to tell the truth I like thunderhill a lot more and with the new track extension it is going to be awesome.. I did have to build some new mufflers for Thunderhill a year or two back but a least it is 98 db I love the out of state tracks- Reno, Pahrump and Firebird... I can run the 4" straight exhaust on the car and make it seem like I am really running on a track the way they used to run My Vintage Can Am buddy stated they were looking at putting mufflers on them a few years back but I have not heard anything else recently Panteracer-Norcal Bob |

I wouldn't buy a house next to an airport or racetrack cause I know its undesirable for resale. The tracks or airports were there way before the homes. There should be a clause on the title of these homes that there is noise due to proximity to certain venue. Then they can't complain about it. Portland International Raceway should be the model for all race tracks. Its got a golf course on one side, swamp land and expo center on the other side. Its got a I5 running thru the front of it. No one to complain about noise. Oh and if you want to complain about noise, the city of Portland owns it good luck with that complaint. Its normal track days is 105db and 4 times a year they bump it up to 115db. |

Hopefully Laguna Seca doesn't fall victim to housing immigrants as so many race tracks around the country have. |

I can't figure out why Laguna has a sound restriction, I just google mapped both tracks and housing seems to be just as close. Only difference I see is that in Portland people are probably more annoyed with the train track noise and horn blowing than the track. |

I think often when they measure DB it is not Equal, since they measure every type of engine on the same RPM.
An 7 liter v8 makes a lot of "noise" on 3500rpm but an 2.5 litre is quiet until 7000plus... On-track measuring could be different though, but they often seem to want to find a way to get you if they dont right away.. It is a bit ironic that you can have a street car that is not allowed as an race car, because of noise.. It seems this is a worldwide problem. Many years ago, theres was a series here who had this problem, mounting the exhaust upwards in the end helped some, so the exhaust did not "hit" the ground. Crosses and stuff in the end of exhaust and such helps too, on a street car you could make some that is mountable of some sort. If you are on the edge it can work, go to Radio shack and buy a cheap db tester to test at home? I have seen some pretty desperate sound "muffle" systems some times, that is made on-site.. He..He.. |

TRUTH!!! |
Laguna Seca is a park owned by Monterey County. It is not your typical track trying to make money. The hillsides around the track have houses and sound travels differently. Thunderhill when the expansion is done is supposed to be the longest track in North America. Can't wait.

Geesh! I'd have to take my tom tom with me to get around that place! Might want a bigger fuel cell also. Lol.
|
Thunderhill new track
Not to worry --- The track will mostly be run as TWO separate tracks -- very few events will get the entire track to run on. NorCal Shelby has a "whole track" event coming up... so that will be a hoot!!!

Things are regulated to death in California but Laguna Seca is the only track that has the ridiculously low db limits. Sonoma Raceway is a fantastic road course to drive on with decent facilities and I believe they did lower their db level down to 103 from 104. Thunderhill is another great place to run and they may have lowered their db levels from 104 to 103 also. Buttonwillow is another great track and perfect for the beginner. At least 15 different configurations, no elevation changes, and run off for days.
So don't blame California.....HA  |

You probably met him 15 minutes after he bought his 1300th car from Stielow ... and he was in a good mood. |
I'm going to try and make the event in PA. I can get some driving in, and learn a lot from watching and talking.
I have no high hopes of winning, but it will be fun. and you get to see a lot of really cool cars. |
