My car is a non-gauge, non-console car but I wanted to be able to monitor the new engine. I made this panel in the ashtray location and was able to do it without drilling any holes or cutting any existing wiring. I originally wanted to put the gauges inside the ashtray so I could close it up but there simply wasn't enough room for 2 gauges.

That was a great idea. Come out looking nice, too.

I tended to some small odds and ends today. I made a coil bracket to put the coil in the stock location to avoid holes in the firewall, etc. It clears the air cleaner base by about 1/8". I plan to use the stock throttle linkage, return spring, and wire separator (which attaches to the back manifold bolts). It's tough making everything fit like stock.
http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...sd23bb500.jpeg The flywheel dust shield required significant trimming to work with the 1 piece rear seal oil pan. But the starter is a really nice piece. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...s053dc100.jpeg |
Coming along nice!

The new headers arrived yesterday. I decided to upgrade from my old Hooker 2131 Super Comps to the new Hooker 2105-7HKR. These are 304 stainless and offer much better ground clearance, better exhaust port alignment, and O2 sensor bungs. Plenty of room around the plugs with my angle plug heads.

Cool stuff Neil.
What are the before and after primary & collector sizes on the Hookers? |

I went with a Ron Davis radiator and fan setup and it should be here in a couple weeks.

I'm no fabricator, but I spent more time than I care to admit getting everything to fit the way I wanted to on the back side of the intake. The stock throttle rod will pass just to the left of the coil and the vacuum line to the brake booster will tie into the custom bung on the backside of the runner.

It looks good.

I did a test fit on the new headers. Good clearance everywhere so far.

Nothing left to do put re-prime it and check the valve lash. The car goes to the production facility tomorrow. I will let everyone know about the show details and air dates as soon as possible.

The car is on the set! I'm excited to tell you that the engine swap will be performed on the Velocity Channel's show called Car Fix. Jared and Lou will be turning the wrenches. Filming will occur next week for Episode 1 of this season. Air date will be sometime in March.

Hey guys, just a quick update on the TV show. The episode will premiere on Saturday, March 28th at 11am eastern.

I’m excited to tell you that a new episode of the TV show CAR FIX will premiere this Saturday, March 28th at 11am eastern on the Velocity Channel. As part of the episode, hosts Jared and Lou perform a beautiful job swapping a new engine and transmission into my ’69 Z28. We also have some fun racing a C7 Corvette Stingray at an Ocala, FL airstrip.
Due to some recent health challenges, what makes this show so important to me is that the producer allowed us to incorporate a very special message to viewers about the importance of taking care of themselves. My hope is that these efforts will help create a new avenue of hope and awareness for people on a broad scale. I would like to thank the numerous people and businesses that assisted with their services and expertise to make this project a success, including AED Performance, Auto Gear, Brenton Productions, Engine Lab, Holley Performance Products, Magnaflow, Marja Blitz, NBS Fabrication, Nelson Competition, Ron Davis Radiators, United Speed World and Wannagofast. The show is also scheduled to air on Sunday, March 29th at 11am eastern, Friday, April 3rd at 7pm eastern and then periodically throughout the year. I hope you enjoy the show! |
That's great Neil, I'll be watching for it!
|
Awesome!
This is so cool..... Always loved the white and red interior combo, very classy. You/your car are now officially famous!
|
Sweet car/motor. It's sad that you only plan to drive it 500 miles per year. Something like this needs to be on the street.

I'm still working on fine tuning the AED 950 carb with a wideband, but I gotta say I'm surprised at how docile and smooth the motor is. I can putt this thing around town in 4th gear at 2,200 rpm. It makes 8 inches of vacuum at idle and the power brakes work fine (as does the PCV system). It's just not something you'd expect from 14:1 compression, [email protected] solid roller motor.
So here's the next round of upgrades... I was very impressed with the fitment of the Hooker 2105 headers so I decided to try Hooker's complete 3" stainless exhaust system. Hooker even makes headpipe adapters to their headers so this should be as close to a direct bolt-in as you can get. I'm not a big fan of absorption-style mufflers, so I ordered a custom set of stainless Spintech mufflers for my install. As soon as everything gets here, we'll see how it all fits up. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...s4sgsba9l.jpeg |
My SpinTech mufflers arrived today. I had them custom made in 304 stainless with 5 spin traps instead of the normal 6 traps. Some of the baffling on the side of the muffler casing was also left out. This should put the sound level somewhere between a Sportsman muffler and a Pro Street muffler design. I went with the Sportsman case size to match the size of the Hooker V304 mufflers that came with the exhaust system. The overall muffler length and inlet/outlet offset of the two muffler designs is identical so they should bolt right up. The Hooker mufflers are also very nicely constructed, but I had my heart set on a chambered-style exhaust note.

hope the spin techs work out for you.. mine didnt.. fell apart after 2 years.
|
Neil I bet that's gonna sound TOUGH! Love the Spintechs... had have 2 sets and love the sound. Definitely unique sound.
