I've been busy with unloading cars --- registering my '33 --- Hobaugh's showed up and MADE me buy this stuff!!

They're having a big "swap meet" (where you swap cash for their stuff...) as part of the show and I'm taking advantage of being here way before the rest of the folks!!

This GULF sign is 6' in diameter and double sided!

The cool part about this is the base and sign are all together....

.......one problem with the rig you're traveling in. Shipping/hauling excuses don't apply.

Nice scores

I've had many opportunities to buy stuff like this -- typically -- when the prices are decent (which means HALF of Barrett Jackson....) you don't have a way to get it home or whatever. You're right Sieg.... opportunity and a way to get it home.

However I did just get asked to haul another car back to Nor Cal... so will be back to having 3 in the trailer. Still --- I get to ditch all the cones and timing equipment for USCA.... and all the RideTech display stuff that managed to find it's way in here along with the 48 Hour Camaro. :>)

If you'd like to --- check out the SELLERS property that he's selling.... it's an OMG WOWZER....

Well in case anyone else made it to Babes last night... Sorry.. I didn't.. Ended up over at GrabberGT's trying to get his engine issues straightened out. Since most of you are at the show and I'm working here at the shop just holler at me if a group gets together to head over there I'm 15-20min from Babes.

I'm in the WHITE toter home and 3 car stacker trailer parked at the FAR NORTH END of the INSIDE of the track -- down by turn 3 and 4 ---

I'll be in the toter --- or at the auto x --- and if you find the Hobaughs or Bret Voelkel they'll know where I am.

I've left the '33 in the trailer this morning due to the threat of rain and possible "damaging hail" in the area.

Voelkel - The boys at Optima - and Hobaughs all have my phone number so anyone trying to find me can find those guys and get hold of me!

GregWeld 03-15-2014 08:12 AM

Last night after the show closed -- we thrashed on the Hobaugh Camaro to get a couple more degrees of steering input.... He WAS .75 seconds behind Kyle --- Not anymore! He's the leader now -- so it was really worth all the effort.

EEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA

I just asked Ed Capen and he said YES if it's NOT raining. They WILL NOT run in the rain...

Raining here now so they're done for the day. :>(

Big thanks to Revved for coming over to help a fellow member he had never met. I only expected a quick stop by from him to listen to my motor and offer a suggestion on what the problem may be. Next thing I know he resetting my rockers. Before the evening was over we had the from end of the motor torn down to the cam just to verify it hadnt skipped a tooth on the chain.

We left it at that point for me to go ahead and pull the motor for a complete overhaul.... Well after some thought over night, I decided the next day I would swap back to the old cam just to see if there would be a difference. Spent all Friday putting it back together and fired it up that night. Unfortunately, still have the same problem.

Again... over night I think it over and decide "what the heck I'll cruise it to the track and just park it Saturday." So this morning I get the car emptied out from the SEMA road trip and head towards the track. To my surprise, the motor feels pretty good despite the horrid sound from under the hood. So, with the car being warmed up, I lay into the first 3 gears spinning the tires all the way. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. That ticking noise accompanying the open exhaust noise is more of a knock now and I think Im down a cylinder. Turned around and limped back to the house. Oh well. time for a new valve train.

Gathered up the wife and baby and went to the show to watch some of the action and say hi to the guys. I got as far as the Ridetech booth and chatted to Rodney when it started raining. Got a couple nice t-shirts and found a part I need to order for my rear coil overs mounts.

I'll head back over there tomorrow to catch some Autocross action. Hopefully the rained out Saturday will result in many of you coming back out for more fun tomorrow.

GregWeld 03-15-2014 04:27 PM

I'm still here but the truck is sitting in about 4" of water...

I'm renaming TexAss --- Seattle of the South

BY THE WAY -- you get $150 OFF USCA EVENT if you were here this weekend --- so best come out SUNDAY and save a fast $150!!

carbuff 03-15-2014 05:02 PM

Dunno what your talking about Weld... I look outside and see sun right now...

Welcome to Texas, where if you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes... ;)

GregWeld 03-15-2014 05:23 PM

Here's some more fun while at Good-Guys Lonestar Nationals.... I got to go for a NASCAR ride!!

They went slower than "normal" due to the sprinkles... but the G's in the corners are amazing!!

This is video from "my" car.

Ed.Capen 03-15-2014 06:03 PM

Greg, it is to bad the camera was not on you as you got out witha big smile on your face!!

:D

Glad you enjoyed that.

Hey also we did not get rain until after lunch. Tomorrow we will run again.

Goodguy Ed

I did Keaton! It was right where you said it was!

Got another zillion dollars worth of fuel --- and some freight retainers or whatever they're called - so it was a good trip.

You have no idea how wet I was though by the time I got the tractor and trailer back together! Just wow... it rains big in Texas!

Glad you came by today -- sorry it was starting to rain - but come out tomorrow and enjoy the sunshine and the auto X. My guess is people haven't had enough show yet and they should come in droves tomorrow I hope!

Funny --- I was talking to Gwen (my wife) on my way back from Love's... and was telling her that when Vinnie (the driver for the big Optima Prime truck) and I came in from the west - we were talking on the CB about how far away we were from TMS and that we could tell it was huge because we could see it from such a distance ---- but on the way back from Loves --- I couldn't see it AT ALL! Even from half a mile out! That was the peak of the rain I think. Thank goodness for GPS!! LOL

gearheads78 03-15-2014 08:11 PM

I was out there for a while today. Took a autocross ride with a friend in his 505ci powered Dodge truck. That was a blast and certainly did not help my need of being in fast car again.

Sorry I missed you. Left when the rain started and have family obligations Sunday so can't make it back out.

Supposed to be in the 40's tomorrow with a big wind out of the north. Hope you guys brought something warm to wear.

BlackenedRR 03-16-2014 07:59 AM

I'm about to head up that way in my work car...

2keaton11 03-16-2014 11:10 AM

Got to see Hobaugh's Camaro run, what a machine and driver. Next week I'll be back to watch you guys run again. The ride tech Camaro was nice and the lady driving the Chevy 2 was quick. Definitely fun to watch can't wait to be able to join. Anyone know what exhaust the red Mustang was running or if it had any at all?

Cheryl is a pretty good driver and her little Nova can scoot!

Brian took me for a ride first thing this morning... The man can wheel a car and he's so smooth he never LOOKS fast.... His driving style is exactly opposite of Danny Pops... Brain is all about smooth.

That red Mustang was loud as hell!! Not sure what - if any - exhaust it was running...

No Worries Chris!! Like I said... I'm not much of a stand around and stare at it kind of guy... if its broke it needs to be fixed!! I was really hoping we would find something easily fixable and get you driving to the show. Let me know what you find when those heads come off. I'm guessing bent valves.

We got over to the show around noon to walk around for a little while before stopping by the Roadster Shop booth and picking up our chassis!

I never did get my Babes Chicken this weekend...

carbuff 03-16-2014 08:44 PM

Good to meet the new folks from the forum that I was able to meet this weekend. I didn't make it back out today, decided to hit the road early to make sure I had it home. Has some trouble with the car yesterday, and didn't want to find myself stranded this afternoon...

Hope everyone that made it out today didn't freeze. Man it was cold when I walked outside this morning. And that wind! WOW!

Safe travels home for everyone, and already looking forward to the fall event!

Adrienne and I went to Babe's tonight for dinner --- did a little Hokey Pokey...I posted a video of that on Instagram (gregweld33) ate some chicken and some chicken fried steak... YUMMY!

Next year we'll plan better and maybe the weather will be more cooperative and we'll feel like going out. By the end of each day here - everyone I know was so cold that nobody felt like doing much.
