Love the engine compartment drawing! LS dressed up old school without a lot of giant panels covering everything up.

Jeff-

I hate giant panels. That means you didn't have the budget to do the car right or you have to make the engine look like a pop up movie set.

Rick D 08-13-2014 06:24 AM

Very cool Rodger, I love that you show some of how you guys do what you do! I know WAY more goes into building these cars but still great that you are willing to show some of it!

And the car isn't bad either!! :hello:

jy211 08-13-2014 07:18 AM

looking good!

HBRod 08-13-2014 08:33 AM

Amazing fabrication work. I had no knowledge of how a wedge section was done so thanks for showing. I knew it had to be difficult but definitely the planning is the key. Would be nice if Danchuk made a variation of the body they are now building with the changes already in the metal, but then it would not end up looking like your work looks.

This will be a very nice '55. I'm partial more to the '55 than the other Tri-5's so will be neat to watch this one to completion.

I'm at a loss for words!! Truly amazing work goin into this and the rest of your projects!!!!

ironworks 08-13-2014 09:18 AM

Thanks again guys. My guys have done a kick ass job on this car.

Here is crappy cell phone picture I text messaged to the customer a few weeks ago. It truly does look like the rendering.

That car is going to look bad ass...PS don't waste that water.

WSSix 08-13-2014 06:25 PM

Seriously cool car! This is going to be awesome when done. Hell, it's awesome now.

ironworks 11-17-2014 03:02 PM

Sorry I'm just getting around to doing an update. Things have been pretty busy around here with SEMA and everything else.

This 55 is going to be one bad ass car. Everyday I get more and more excited about this project. The wheels and stance on this car are really cool.

We got the Dash moved back to clear the large engine set back.

We are getting the transmission and driveshaft tunnel set up.
http://i616.photobucket.com/albums/t...13-2014018.jpg

Here is the direction we are going with the engine compartment. We are working with Vortech Superchargers on doing a complete custom blower housing to get the old school look even more. We are also working on the valve covers to get the perfect something that should have been done but never was vibe.

The wheels on this project were designed by Eric Black and myself. The front are supposed to look like 18" spindle mount wheels. The rear are build to look like the wheel that would have accompanied the Spindle mount wheels on a Gasser in a 19" wheel. The front half of the wheel hoops were machined from solid chucks and the rear hoop is from a 3 piece style wheel.

Time to get to work fitting the doors and building the new door skins to align with the shape of the body and get the under hood stuff dialed. The plan is to display this car in bare metal with all the billet parts at GNRS in January.

ScotI 11-17-2014 04:55 PM

I wanted that wheel concept in the larger diameters for my patina'd 64 Chevy truck but couldn't afford to do one-off's. I wanted 19's & 20's but an 18/19 combo looks just as nice. I love the rolling stock set-up & the underhood plans. I'm assuming you used the GT40 tire size 315/40-19 for the rears?

Yes sir. This car needed side profile in the rear tires. So we down sized the wheel size to keep the overall height the same but add more side wall. Looks awesome on this car.

tones2SS 11-17-2014 05:14 PM

That is awesome.
I am looking forward to seeing the engine bay completed! Very nice.

jy211 11-18-2014 04:26 AM

great stance

WSSix 11-18-2014 12:12 PM

I can see why you're excited about this build, Rodger. It really is a fantastic build. The car is coming along nicely. Thanks again for walking us through the changes. I wouldn't have picked up on how in depth they were otherwise.

NOVA 01-30-2015 03:38 PM

I don't care for it, I think you better bring it over to my house and i'll go ahead and let you take my 55 post so you can just start over.... yeah no worries we will swap keys and titles, call it good, I know, I know ive got a large heart, just trying to help here.

ScotI 01-30-2015 07:22 PM

The engine air box & 'under dash" a/c set-up is freakin cool.
Very nice!

dug 01-30-2015 08:49 PM

Love the engine bay and dash work. Looks amazing. :military:

WILWAXU 01-31-2015 03:56 AM

Amazing work!

kevin_l 01-31-2015 06:21 AM

Incredible work so far! I love the wedge mod, anything that makes people stand there looking, knowing something in different but can't pin point it is awesome in my book. Some gm engineer is looking down in awe. Almost a shame to cover that beautiful fab work with paint.

Sieg 01-31-2015 10:36 AM

Looking good Roger!

Vince@Meanstreets 01-31-2015 10:37 AM

wow....all i can say right now.

WSSix 01-31-2015 06:28 PM

The under dash ac is a great idea. Keep up the great work, guys!

ironworks 01-31-2015 06:59 PM

Thanks guys. This car has been a really fun project.

jy211 02-02-2015 06:17 AM

coming out sweet!

waynieZ 02-02-2015 06:35 AM

As always beautiful work. Under the hood looks great! I like the old style A/C built into the dash.

DBasher 02-02-2015 07:40 AM

Looks really good Rodger, everything is so subtle. Any plans for the front bumper? I only ask because it's staring at me.....

Ricochet 02-02-2015 07:50 AM

This is the money shot for me!

The details throughout are killer. I thought this show was kind of cool also...I like seeing the LSX through the mesh.

We still need to finish the firewall. I think we lowered the bumper brackets after this picture was taken. I was contacted on Saturday to do a Baremetal photo shoot for a major magazine in the studio later this month.

Ricochet 02-02-2015 08:44 AM

I know the firewall needs completion - just thought it was a cool pic. Rightfully so on the bare metal photo session.

That thing is just wicked

DBasher 02-02-2015 12:33 PM

I love it and have no doubt it'll look perfect when it's all said and done!
Nice work guys!

glassman 02-02-2015 06:36 PM

Yeah, effin a that is a gorgeous build. Nicely done, be proud of your company and crew!!

ironworks 02-03-2015 05:52 AM

Here are some detail shots of the engine. You can see the DBW throttle body will be mounted on the firewall for packaging issues. We also made the Vortech Super Charger brackets. You will see them in .125 steel and then in 1/2 plate once the design was completed. The boot on the super charger was source from a big rig truck. Lots of cool details going into this. We still have to get the power steering pump bracket to fit into the opening behind the blower belt and the rack and pinion.
