if the price is 61K we will give it a look. but not for 80.

I could take a srt8 for 41k and build a nasty little car for another 40k

Evan Iroc-Z 07-18-2014 06:51 AM

I can't help but think they hit 707 for a reason, flip it over and you have LOL. Are they laughing at the other two?

Payton King 07-18-2014 07:23 AM

That was clever.

Yeah, weight is an issue. But, I bet more people like the extra room than worry about the weight like "us types". The extra room makes it stand out from the pack.

They had 2 Hellcats at Beaches cruise in at PIR on Wednesday. They had a press day with them letting the reporters take them on the track.

There's one thing nice with "build as" weight and listed power numbers. There's an easy and more chances to make it faster.

Pull the jute, eliminate a few circuits, carbon fiber hood, trunk lid, stripped down the trunk, lighter wheels, suspension tuning and you'll have a nice little weekend track car.

Too bad crash standards and NVH reduction makes these cars tall and heavy.

Good point. More weight = more weight to lose. I could stand to drop about 50lbs myself. That'll help my 0-60 times!

fleetus macmullitz 07-18-2014 11:19 AM

Dissimilar cars for sure, but for entertainment purposes, the 2015 Mustang GT weighs in at 3705 lbs., a gain of 87 lbs over the 2014 Model.

It would seem that eventually the Mopar guys will get a nice little crate engine out of this horsepower war too.

All I have to say about this is....

Straight roads are for fast cars. Curvy roads are for fast drivers.

another good one.
If the car feels like it is on rails, you are probably driving too slow. Ross Bentley

:wow:

Yeah, the guys/gals on camaro5 are pretty interested in this car. More so than the Mustang guys. They really don't want to hear it. :D
The engine actually produces over 800 HP. It takes 80HP just to drive the supercharger. The HP at 1200 RPM is about 412 HP. Thing is BEAST! If you put your foot on the gas at WOT for about a minute, it sucks down 1.5 gallons of fuel. LOL The supercharger sucks in A LOT of air. If you put it in an office room that is 10X13,.....it will empty out that room in about a minute of all the air. :underchair: The engine is even SAE certified for the 707 HP and 650 lbs. TQ at the back of the crank. ALL HC, Hellcat engines are tested a bunch times BEFORE being installed into the cars to make sure they are dead on.
And,....I'm willing to bet it does as good, if not better than the Zl1 on the road course. You heard it here first. :poke: Not knocking the ZL1,...that thing is beast as well. I love'em all. Great time for modern muscle cars.

Thanks for posting that.

I went to his fb page and saw this...

"Lots of talk about the new Hellcat. Casey Carden, Todd Hanson, Peter Stolz and I got to test one at Chelsea last month while training some of the test drivers..
They held us to 150 on the oval in the rain:no helmets.. Bestest 'sounding' street legal car I ever heard or drove!!!"

Yeah,...the exhaust is almost a "straight thru" exhaust. Has the electronic valves like the Corvette. I "assume" you can pull the fuse on that like on the Corvettes.
You know,....in case you wanted to make noise ALL the time, not just by getting on the "GO" pedal. :D

Looks like the Charger is getting this engine as well.

Yes indeed it is.

Here is a good read on the Hellcat for those that are interested.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...at_first_test/

From the article;
Here's the part you've been waiting for. Our best run in the Hellcat resulted in 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds before whacking the quarter mile upside the head in 11.7 seconds at 125.4 mph. So many things to note here. First of all, as far as direct competition still on sale, the Hellcat is quicker than the Camaro ZL1. The supercharged Chevy takes 3.8 seconds to hit 60 mph and requires 12.2 seconds to run the corner, trapping out at 116.6 mph. So, that's a win. What about competition you can't buy new anymore, like -- for instance -- the recently discontinued 662-hp Shelby GT500? The lighter Snake needed only 3.5 seconds for its 60-mph blast and 11.6 seconds to go down the quarter mile with a trap speed of 125.7 mph. Slight advantage: Ford. That said, it's gone, so in terms of new-car sales, the Snake don't matter. What about the Viper? In the TA, we saw 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a quarter-mile spanking of 11.3 seconds with an astonishing trap speed of 129.3 mph. Of course, the Hellcat weighs 1000 pounds more than its big (but smaller) brother.

Also from that article...

eight gears makes it sound like a scene from Fast and the Furious.

Im always amazed by the size differences between the originals and modern version. I mean the 427 R/T looks like a dash model next to the modern day car.

That really surprised me as well Vince.

So cool that very 'un-politically correct' cars are continuing to get built by Dodge, Chevy and Ford.

Very true.
In all honesty,....I love the look of these Challengers. I am also a HUGE fan of the '70/'71 Challenger as well. Would love to own one someday. AFTER I get my '70 Chevelle SS, of course. :G-Dub:
