wow- car is incredible.

J-Rod&Custom 10-05-2014 07:40 PM

About mid way through bodywork, we decided the hood needed something...
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...9812FA8F50.jpg
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...DBC243DB93.jpg

We installed some vents... Its crazy how much this changed the car! It looks 1' wider than a stock Nova!
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...FAE171C6BF.jpg

The hood was challenging...! Cutting and welding two large areas on an old hood skin, and trying to make the bottom structure look factory.

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_2253.jpg
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_2254.jpg

Once I got the structure fab done, we cleaned the bottom of the hood skin and sealed it. Most of the ares would be impossible to get to after the structure goes on.

http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...D8156221E6.jpg

This is by far the most tedious/ time consuming car we have ever bodyworked! It looks so simple and square, but every edge, corner, and bodyline are as straight as they can be! We used a laser to make sure the bodyline was straight, it was difficult to "eye ball" with the crown of the quarters...
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...A2415AA9BC.jpg

We had acrylic blocks machined with a sharp profile of the bodyline.
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_2064.jpg

With the car is in its first prime, we took it to McFarland Upholstery to have him get started on panel and seat fabrication.

Wow nice work! It looks factory under the hood. I'm loving this build.

DBasher 10-05-2014 08:28 PM

Hood looks great Jared, would've never known it took that much to look so good! I still can't get over how sharp and crisp the body lines are, bad ass Nova, nice work!

Love the vents. Adds a nice modern look to a cool classic car. Can't wait to see the car painted with the vents. Keep up the good work.

I've had a chance to see the car in person- The details are incredible and well worth taking the time look it over close. The JRod crew put an insane amount of hours to get this car to this level- It will be one of the top cars of SEMA!

GregWeld 10-07-2014 07:30 AM

And that's the way it gets done in the Great Pacific NorthWET. Nice job Jared!!

No reason to even go outside - right? Just lock yourself in the garage and get it done!

Car is AWESOME!

J-Rod&Custom 10-07-2014 07:49 PM

Again-Thanks for all the complements!

This project has been a fun build! I cant wait to get it out and enjoy it!

Heres some more pics!

We made a sheetmetal console that plays off the stock SS.

Hours and Hours of block sanding... we finally made it into paint!!!
It takes a special person to have enough patience, attention to detail, and drive to make things as nice as they can be. I cant be more proud of my guys and everyone involved!

P.S. We are always looking for body guys and fabricators! Don't hesitate to shoot me an email!

Excellent! Keep the pedal down! Looking forward to seeing this one at SEMA.

J-Rod&Custom 10-09-2014 02:09 PM

With the entire car painted, we sanded it down flat, and assembled the body. We are adding an asymmetrical stripe on the hood and trunk with a stripe running low on the sides... Jason Rushforth did a killer job on many of the subtle design features throughout the car.

Good eye!

The COE is a project I'am doing for a friend of mine (in my free time, witch I don't have much of lately...) He has a lot of heavy equipment and wants the truck very usable. We put the cab on a newer Isuzu chassis (turbo diesel), and we will be stretching it 30" for a rear seat.

Thanks,
Jared

J-Rod&Custom 10-09-2014 06:49 PM

Rushforth just sent over the final rendering! I have to share!!!

We have worked together so much on this project! Its been awesome having him on the team!

Love the talent in the NW!

As Dave Niehaus would say "bust out out the mustard and rye bread grandma, it's GRAND SALAMI time!"

Great looking ride, can't wait to see it in person.

Lenie 10-10-2014 08:42 AM

I know the finished product is the goal but this stage in the build is got to be my favorite to sit back and just stare at. Raw, could put a motor in it and drive it just like that. Great build, one of my favorite body styles.

Getting an idea for ride height...http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/q...a/IMG_0186.jpg

Thanks Jay!

The car will be on the ramp down to Hot Rod Alley, with Mast Motorsports.

J-Rod&Custom 10-11-2014 11:40 AM

After the body was painted and graphics were on, we sprayed all our satin colors... The engine bay is two toned black and body color with our stipe color splitting them up, then a satin clear over everything...

mach1stang 10-12-2014 05:42 AM

I'm digging the hell out of the two stripe and pinstriped engine bay!

ModernDay67SS 10-12-2014 08:12 AM

Wow... This thing is just getting better and better.

JayR 10-14-2014 05:03 PM

Stoked to see Jared and this project finally getting seen and receiving all the love they deserve.

Thanks to Alan for seeing this thing through and trusting me to do the designs and a huge thank you and tons of props to Jared for always letting me run with it and then being as insanely talented as he is trusting and being able to make anything I draw. Jared is one of my best friends and then he also happens to be one of the most talented people I know so helping him with this car has been a total pleasure and privilege.

What about the underside of that hood? Is that amazing or what? "oh, I'll just build a new under-structure to clear and accommodate the vents" What? How? Go to his website and see how he did it on the 69 Camaro we did together 7 years ago!
