Bubble Wrap
Get the bubble wrap ready for me. 598 might need some too.
|
I think that Luxo blue is Lemans Blue.
It was a late C5 color and then a C6 color until 2007. Here is my lemans blue c6 out in the sun. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7336/...3780b9cd_b.jpg Your car is looking great - love the wheels! |
Quote:
You are correct. That color debuted as Lemans Blue on the 2004 Z06. Since then, GM has used it under different labels on other vehicles under different names including Blue Topaz and Xenon on the Cadillac, and even Heritage Blue on the 2014 Trucks. They are all WA933L paint code. Loved that color the first time I saw it. With blasting the car and replacing sheet metal, I could paint it any color I wanted. I think I am glad I stuck with blue judging how great the color has turned out. Your car looks great, too! |
I knew there was a reason I liked the blue on the 2014 trucks!
I'll have to pay more attention next time I see one. Keep up with the great updates! |
Was able t make it by the shop yesterday. Still a couple more tweaks to be done before I bring it home, but still progressing. Pictures really don't do justice on how it really looks in person, but these two shots probably give the best perspective.
This shot was taken when it was fresh out of paint: https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3189-M.jpg This one was yesterday after being wet sanded and buffed: https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3216-M.jpg Few more from yesterday: https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3217-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3220-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3222-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3223-M.jpg Meanwhile, the parts for my old steering column came in, so I was able to finish rebuilding it. I cleaned everything up and painted it. I then replaced the tumbler, turn signal switch, all the bearings and finished it off with a billet turn signal lever and flasher button. Sorry, no pictures as I did it, but I you can find a video on Youtube as I did that will step you through the whole process. It was surprisingly easy to disassemble and reassemble. :) https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3231-M.jpg |
Alright, quick update. I finally got it back home. A big thank you to Marcel and the guys at RUSH Customs and Classics for the incredible work they did on this beast. They were always professional, always on top of things and kept me informed through out the whole process. The end result, well, see for yourself...
Just off the trailer... Cloudy day, so the metallic is not gleaming, but still shiney :) Can't stand it...Let's get started! https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3241-M.jpg Soon as I got it in the garage, started on the Dynomat. This pic was the mock-up. That pre-cut kit is awesome. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3247-M.jpg Whipped out on of the new screw sets I got to begin reassembly. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3252-M.jpg Got the rear back together and installed the trunk weather stripping. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3255-M.jpg Couldn't stand it. Had to put the rears on! https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3259-M.jpg More pics to come. This is all I took so far. It rained all day here so did what I could in the garage and not the greatest for pictures. Thanks again for lookin'! |
Car is looking great! You are moving quickly on this one!
|
I agree with Scott. The car is looking good.
|
Thanks, guys. Yeah I'm really pleased and pumped up to get this thing back together. But I have a long way to go. I still have to get the wiring back in it, window glass, brake lines, fuel tank, exhaust, motor, interior, etc...you know the drill... But in the mean time, you're right...it does look good :) I have all winter to work on it, and lookie there....Christmas is right around the corner...how convenient. I just need to pass my list to Santa and maybe a Christmas miracle will happen...lol!
Good thing is, I have most everything and just need to install. Very few things left I need to order. It is just going to be slow and a lot of blue tape. You should have seen how careful I was just putting the bumper on. |
In the Garage at long last!
Cool to see that car back in your garage! The color turned out awesome. I did not see, in all of the garage photos, the roll of bubble wrap for me and 598. That slick a paint job will be pretty intimidating to work around. Cannot wait.

Quick update after Thanksgiving holiday break..
Day before Thanksgiving, got to see it in the sun for the first time. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...MG_3337b-M.jpg Got the grill back in https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3340-M.jpg Almost hated putting Dynamat on a floor that looks this good... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3347-M.jpg Got to put the quarter windows in before Applying the Dynomat here. Got them in and just need to adjust... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3350-M.jpg Got my Lokar pedals back in https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3308-M.jpg Had to take a break before Thanksgiving to smoke some turkey and ribs... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...MG_3353b-L.jpg Friday, after Turkey day, got my cheap labor to roll the Dynomat... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3355-L.jpg and got some wiring done... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3361-M.jpg Almost done with the Dynomat... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3365-M.jpg Popped an old factory rear interior panel on to check spacing for the new window felts. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3370-M.jpg Quarter windows adjusted and felt molding in and fitting better than factory. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3371-M.jpg More to come... Thanks for lookin' again! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! |
Same to you, and boy does that looks Nice! Well done.
|
Have not been able to do much work on it in the last 3 weekends between Christmas and work, except mount the front wheels on...until today... :)
Had to take the grill out to work on more of the wiring. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6862-L.jpg Was able to wire up and reinstall my dash panel and get most of the interior wiring completed... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6870-L.jpg It was a bit cloudy out today, but it was still shinin'... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6872-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6873-L.jpg That's about it for today. Got to work Monday and Tuesday and then Christmas will take over for a couple days. Hopefully, I can get back on it right after Christmas. Hope ya'll have a Merry Christmas until then! |
Boy that's beautiful! What size and back spacing are the back wheels? They look perfect with that color.
|
Sick! Absolutely stunning looking!!
:captain: |
That sure looks great outside, like that color:thumbsup:
|
:gitrdun:
Wow the car is looking great. Priceless picture with your helper on the dynomat... :flag2: |

The front are 18X8's with a standard backspace. Tires I went with 245/40's. Thanks everyone for the complements! I was saying the other day what I like about this the most is it is like starting with a blank canvas and I put it back together the way I want. It is nerve-racking working on it. I use lots of tape and blankets when working on it. I don't want to put the first scratch on it yet! No one wants to get near it either, but I'm sure I 'll get some help when I am ready to drop the motor back in it. :) |
Wow that looks great !

I am not in that area anymore. Currently living in Spring Branch but likely to move back up north a little bit next year (Jersey Village maybe). Where are you located? I'd love to come check out the car! Cant wait to see it completed and rolling around. Lot of nice first gens being built right now in the Houston area! Keep up the good work and keep the updates coming! William |
Thanks, guys.
Alright, been a little while. Hope everyone had a good Christmas and new year. (argh! curse you burnt out Christmas light!) https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3422-M.jpg Okay, so a lot of my family got me gift cards for Jegs, Ecklers, Summit, and Amazon. So, shortly after Christmas, I had a couple of things show up on my doorstep. :ups: https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3599-M.jpg Well, shortly after that, cold, rainey weather, work stuff, and a six year old dominated my time. BUT I finally found myself back in the garage. No pictures on this one, but rolled out the 1/4" Dynaliner on top of the Dynamat inside the cab. Started wrapping up the wiring and everything was working, except the headlights. Check all the grounds, fuses, and tested all connections. Think I traced it down to the dimmer switch on the floor board. Local parts did not have it, so I ordered it (A little left on the Gift Card!) While I wait on that, I shift over to brakes. Installed the new master cylinder and started work on the stainless lines. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3633-M.jpg Realized I had to remove the subframe connectors and DS loop to run them right, but got 'er done. (one good thing about bolt in  ) https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3636-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3637-M.jpg Looked around and admiring the bottom of the car and wow, the rear-end yoke looks like a$$ compared to the rest of it. haha https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3642-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3640-M.jpg Anyway, I got the dimmer switch in and I was skeptical, but I hooked it up and voila! All lights working. So I decided to start buttoning up the front and put he grill back in. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3626-M.jpg ...and even the bumper. A quick light check and we are looking good. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3631-M.jpg That's it for now. I am trying to dedicate an hour each night during the week to work on this thing. Hopefully I can keep it going until the weekend. Spring is quickly approaching. Gotta pull the 383 back out of plastic wrap and do some finishing touches to prepare to drop it back in soon. That'll drop the front in down where it should be too! Everyone's projects are looking great! ...and thanks for lookin' at mine! |
Nice job! its looks like a done deal in that last picture.
|
:confused59: Wow! The car looks awesome!! I can only imagine how excited you must be. It won't be long before you are cruising and enjoying the car.
:captain: |
Thanks, guys.
Small update. I've just been tweeking things on the interior and wiring, a lot of work, but nothing worth posting, other than I got a set of optical LED halo headlights in and installed those... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3654-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3666-M.jpg Other than that, I turn my attention to the 383. Got to freshen it up a little. Good, solid engine. I only had it in the car 4 1/2 years when I pulled it out started this adventure. Only made a handful of passes on the track. Just needs a little cleaning and touching up. Maybe replace the water pump and power steering pump with billet. Already have the pulley system. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3692-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3693-M.jpg Alright, headed back out to work on it. I have a block of time today and I'm taking advantage. See ya! |
Cleaned up and freshened up. Ready to go back in the car...
https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3719-M.jpg Gorgeous day today to work on it. Still adjusting the passenger side striker and laid more Dynaliner on top of the Dynamat. Ready to see the front drop once the 383 is back in. Rear ought to drop a little too once fuel tank, etc. is installed... https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6887-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...MG_6886b-M.jpghttps://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6880-M.jpg Getting there slowly. More to come... |
Man that's a good looking blue!!!
Who made the halo headlights? Those look cool fer sure! |
Car looks great and you are doing an excellent job. Keep the pics and progress coming.
|
Looking Good!
That is a darn fine looking driver's side window! The color really pops in the sun and shows better than in the garage. Awesome job. Let's drop that motor in it!
|
Looking better every time we see it.

So here are a couple of the latest. This one I really like. The sun is poppin the metallic so I had to take this one. Still does not give it justice.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...87869A28-M.jpg Got the front of the motor back on and it is waiting to be dropped in. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...55C58C68-M.jpg |
That color is very nice out in the sun, your building a great looking car.I am building one this color for a friend and the color really does pop outside.

Messed around in the garage on Saturday.
https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6896-M.jpg Gotta get a new belt since I am taking the vacuum pump out of the equation to make it more streetable. Just going with duel breathers on the new valve covers. Previous picture from when I first put the motor in the car before the massive teardown and paint: https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...8d4/M/33-M.jpg and now https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6960-M.jpg Focusing on the front of the car, I like these headlights, but the only thing, they are apparently slightly smaller than the original 7" headlights. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6906-M.jpg Notice the stainless ring is slipping off slightly at the bottom. Small adjustment, but no big deal. I'll figure something out. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6919-M.jpg Moving on to the interior, I began to lay the molded carpet. Went with cut pile instead of loop to give it that more modern feel. Great pre-molded kit. Just had to line up and cut bolt holes out and trim slightly in places. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6930-M.jpg Installed the sill plate for fitting. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6946-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6952-M.jpg ...and the door vent https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6939-M.jpg Installing the glass is one thing, but adjusting it is a whole other chore. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6932-M.jpg So many factors and since these are new doors, I can't go by the old markings still on the hardware from before. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6933-M.jpg Think I finally got it... Lining up nicely and in the channel of the weatherstrip. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_6934-M.jpg More to come... Thanks again for lookin' |
Sweet
That thing has come full circle! Love the wheels and the gauge cluster:D
|
Still cranking along. Spring is here and got all the yard and garden stuff done the past couple of weekends so now I can turn my attention back to the Beast. Got a couple of big items this week.
:ups: I went with Stainless Works on my Headers. Looks to be really good quality... except for the greasy finger prints left on this one from the factory! :knokwood: No worries, it wiped right off. Heard a lot of good feedback on these, and so far, I am not disappointed. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3945-M.jpg The stainless fuel tank from Rick's Hotrod Shop is off the hook! It's a shame something this pretty will mostly be hidden under the car. https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3785-M.jpg Supposed to rain like the next 7 days straight. Need a good sunny day to drop the motor in. No worries, I can work on interior stuff. Got my new window track in, so I can finally get the passenger glass in. The old track had been "engineered" which explains why the nylon rollers on the regulator were in such bad shape. :badidea: (the original door took a hit 2 paint jobs ago with the original owner and I guess they tried to salvage the track) https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...IMG_3948-M.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Other/Pho...MG_3949-XL.jpg Got some brand new rollers on the regulators now, but this track would have destroyed all the work...lol That's it for now. I'll see what I can get done this weekend. |
Fantastic build. Love the color.
I'm somewhat biased since I have a blue 69 Camaro also. |
